The Railway Club Hotel has remained one of the busiest dining rooms in Melbourne for over ten years. Its atmosphere and ambiance has stood the test of time. No pretence, just true Port Melbourne style. You can choose your own meat from our display fridge and see it cooked to perfection in our open kitchen. With such a commanding range of cuts and sizes we never disappoint. But it's not just all about the steaks. We are also famous for our seafood and expansive selection of specials. Try our chef's-own Cevapcici skinless sausages with olive tapenade, or our whole grilled flounder. Was with a group of friends there yesterday evening, hadn’t been since around this time last year.
There was a tall girl with long hair behind the bar who appeared to be a manager and another girl with blonde hair serving.
How they managed to do such a fantastic job when it was so busy, whilst even having folksy banter with customers such as myself remembering the Riesling I was drinking when a mate couldn’t and even topping up my Pinot Noir in my ‘good’ glass, I have no idea.
Their service was nothing short of brilliant. The Parma was delicious and great value at $20, the Chef even being very friendly when I picked it up at the corner pass.
It was a great experience all round and the staff were brilliant, especially st this time of year when things are crazy the week before Christmas. Thanks, Sam

Returning visit after 2.5 years for husband’s birthday and parents anniversary.
online booking was done smoothly a week in advance for monday evening. Pretty busy considering its monday night. home made garlic bread and home made sauces were yummy. Meat quality were fabulous, had mine medium rare and did not disappoint!
staff were great, attentive and friendly. We had a delicious sticky date pudding with a birthday candle to celebrate the birthday. Overall this is still the best steak in Melbourne.

There are three grades of dining here - typical bar, outside under cover, and fancy with table cloth. I sat in the bar and chose the "pie of the day". It was beef burgundy, huge, and delicious. The bar atmosphere took me back a few years, as did the refreshment of the beer. In the bar you get a "summoning device" that tells you when your food is done. It is delivered to the bar through a kitchen hatch.

As the saying goes "Don't go by the appearance, might disappoint you" is perfect to describe our experience....Absolutely shocked at the ratings.
In one word 'Dissapointing' ..even more-so as we were celebrating our Anniversary here.
Had it not been for the wines and the dessert, this would have been rated as one of our worst celebrations ever.
The attendants are not aware of anything on the menu. A medium - rare was served Rare. When enquired if the lamb was pan seared, cooked until tender, she said yes, and served us a very chewy piece of meat. Although, liked the Calmari and the dessert... dime spent was way way way lot than the experience.
Our 💔 to rate this one so low but being honest helps.

Have been looking forward to eating here after reading all the reviews and me being a steak freak! However the meal was just ok but did not meet expectation particularly when you consider the pricing is at the top end for a “speciality” steak house. I have had better steaks at less expensive establishments and even though I say it, better steaks at home. The accompanying chips were disappointing being dry and “ flowery”, again not what you would expect at a high priced pub.

Popped in here for some lunch, the restaurant was very busy and we really didn’t need a full lunch so we ate in the bar area from the bar menu. Food was fine. We took a lot at the steaks that were on offer in the main restaurant, they looked fantastic, this place is know for its steaks and does like you won’t be disappointed. Near the end of my visit to Melbourne but I’ll be looking to one of their steaks on my next visit.

This is our first visit to The Railway Club and we came for a dinner. Starter is home made garlic bread and was yummy. Order different steak menu for each of 4 of us and everything was fabulous and meat quality met our expectations. The staff were attentive and friendly. Nice atmosphere at the room as well. Overall experience: great services, great food, great ambience. Highly recommended. Ooh one more thing .. we thought this is the best steak in Melbourne.

Hotel status as a "goto" place for a steak has obviously taken turn for the worse. Spent ex $300 ( 3 patrons ), RibEye... must have been coked from frozen state ( watery texture). Scotch fillet ... "Well done" ( thanks for the charcoal ) and same presented for the Reef / Beef. Certainly a far cry from quality presented on previous visits. Pleasant surroundings and staff but now " a good pub for a parma".

A very good local steak restaurant in the Port Melbourne area.
Our group of six popped in on a Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm for a late lunch.
It was extremely busy, which is likely a testament to its food and service. I ordered the following:
Beef and Reef, which consisted of an Eye fillet with two grilled king prawns, roasted potatoes and a bearnaise sauce. The fillet steak was cooked a perfect medium. It was tender and succulent. The roasted potatoes were soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Perfect! The bearnaise sauce was creamy was a hint of Tarragon. Very nice.
We ordered a plate of mixed vegetables, which consisted of carrots, green beans and broccoli. Crunchy and tasty. A great accompaniment to the steak dish.
One of the group ordered the flounder and stated that it was fresh and delicious.
For dessert, we shared Tiramisu, and Churros with chocolate dipping sauce. Very moreish. The Tiramisu was creamy with soft sponge and a hint of coffee. The Churros were sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, very nice!
The service was excellent. Our waitress was helpful and polite.
Price with drinks came to $100 per person. Not cheap, but not overly expensive.

We were accommodated for dinner at fairly late notice and told there was only a 2 person bench available. We went along and were treated to an outstanding meal. Share plate for starter and steak to die for as a main. Again outstanding service from Gwen our waitress. Don't be put off it you are only offered a 2 person bench as we will actually request it next time we visit. Very very good food and service.

Excellent venue to have a dinner. Lovely ambiance and a great selection of food options and drinks to choose from.
The venue was not too busy (we arrived at 8pm). We all ordered steaks which I thought were reasonably priced and again you can go from moderate prices to high prices again the choice is yours...
Steak were cooked as ordered and service was excellent.
Extensive wine list as well.
We will be back again.

The steaks were delicious as was the service. The wine list offered a favourite of ours that brought back fond memories of when we visited the Barossa. The meals were generous but obviously cooked to perfection and the accompaniments were equally delicious. The service was friendly and added to the experience. The only thing that was not to our linking were all of the large sports screening throughout the venue. Many thanks for wonderful evening.

Interior of the restaurant is really nice.
Tables are well set.
Staff is very polite.
Food is generally tasty (8,5 out of 10).
I guess deserts should be either larger or less priced.
Steaks have quite strong charcoal taste (I personally like it).
Mushrooms served with steak seemed/tasted like they were not fully fresh before cooking.

We’ve been many times before and we went for lunch for Valentine’s Day. I had the porterhouse which for the first time was pretty ordinary (tough) and my wife had the whiting which she said was tasty but on the thing side.
The thick cut chips are really quartered potatoes so go for the French fries instead.
Staff were very attentive and helpful.
The hotel as always is lovely with a homely feeling.
Great selection of beers and wine.

I came on the recommendation of a friend who told me this is one of the best steakhouses in Sydney. I came with high expectations and ordered the char grilled bone in rib eye. The steak was grilled to perfection on the outside and the taste was great but….the cut of the meat was inferior. For $90 it was quite a tough piece of rib eye. No marbling whatsoever. It was a pity because the steak was grilled well but the cut was poor. I am sadly disappointed.
