Living around the corner, bought the fish and chips a few times for tea and can't say I'm a fan. The chips are good and fish is undeniably fresh, but the batter was always soaking in oil.

This is a pretty simple place, serving nice grilled fish or fried fish, fish sandwiches, etc. For the area, it's fairly inexpensive too, and the fish was fresh and very tasty.

Lygon Street is a good place to eat, with an array of different cuisines on offer. We decided to go for good old fish & chips and weren't disappointed. This is a cut above your standard fish and chip shop with a great variety of fish on offer. We had catch of the day for $11 and ate at the... More

The fish at TANK is always very fresh outstanding... This time it has gone to a whole new level!!! Salmon with a Balsamic dressing blew my taste buds away! The service on top of that is always and I mean always outstanding... Don't just take my word for it, OUTSTANDING IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT ;-)

Eat-in or take away up-market fish and chips. In addition to a variety of fish dishes you can also get burgers (including vegie burgers) and salads. Wine and beer is available as well as soft drinks. I opted for a "Calamari Salad" which comprised a few strips of spicy seasoned fried calamari served on top of a green salad. The... More

There's a about the ambiance and decor of Tank that reminds me of the old-fashioned fish and chip take aways at the beach. The tables and chairs and comfy benches are a step up from the plastic garden chair, but the furnishings are not pretentious. And they don't need to be. The fish does all the speaking for them. A... Pity about the search for tables otherwise five star. It takes some fi ding too as it is tucked away at the northern end behind the numerous Asian and burger bars. So. What's great is the genuine fresh fish on offer.and it's truly fresh with your choice of how it's done. Fish fillets from $9 plus an extra $2 for... More

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
