We were there for dinner and had the 9 course meal which included wagyu beef on the BBQ. A little disappointed that the waygu were a little tough and stringy for our liking. Have had better.

Yumm yummm! Impressive service, quality food, yumm! We went here after watching Kinky Boots! What a treat! Something about the experience of cooking your own meal, on your very table, smoke free with a generous serving of sake is very relaxing, social and romantic. The place is always busy so booking is an absolute essential. Once you get in, just... More

This restaurant was one of my favourite in Melbourne. Takumi is a restaurant specialized in wagyu (Japanese beef). My favourite is a lunch set called deluxe lunch, where you get to choose between wagyu beef pattie, wagyu beef yakiniku, or wagyu beef sukiyaki. Choosing this set, you will also get Japanese wagyu beef curry, fried prawn (ebi furai), salmon sashimi,... More

Servicing staff were not helpful when asking about dishes. BBQ grille was far too hot compared to other customers and queries about this resulting in a severe lack of communication skills. No one came to our table once meal was completed. Not even to give us the cheque.

I have visited this restaurant for lunch many times. I tend to order the same bento box with the Teriyaki salmon. The salad dressing on the coleslaw is the best. Service is quick and you can get in and out in an hour.

Two of us enjoyed the 10 course degustation meal with Sake and loved every bit of it. Even the miso soup was great! The tray of three sauces given to each of us were amazing. We cooked, dipped, ate, drank and thoroughly enjoyed the whole afternoon. The service too was outstanding! Would definitely recommend to other lovers of Japanese food... More

We had a range of 10 tasting plates including BBQ and all were delicious. Friendly staff and great location in Melb. Great intro to Japanese food for my husband who had not eaten it before.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
