Wow, cocktails, nibbles, beer and whisky, funky music. Not an Izakaya in the traditional sense. But we'll worth a visit.

We got there late, probably around 10, and were seated straight away. Buzzing atmosphere, delicious food. A little pricey but worth it. I'd recommend!

This is an experience for food, for a great take on modern Japanese and just to watch the kitchen staff in action. We sat at the counter and the food made in that space was not only great to look at but delicious. We sampled 6 small plates of everything we could and were not disappointed in any of our... More

This restaurant is truly a little hidden gem. Hidden in the basement of a building, it serves the most amazing Japanse food I have had in a long while

We had a group of about 10 or more. The food was ok, no real stand out dishes for me. The sake was good, ok atmosphere, but I was a fan of the downstairs no windows.

The food was really lovely and fresh however for the size VS price we where not impressed. My husband is 6"4 and loves his food, and the poor thing ordered a burger once we got to a bar afterwards. I would recommend only if you want to pick at a few items, not the best Japanese in Melbourne

What I love about this place is they fit perfectly with Melbourne. The menu is a Japanese ispiration, with a great cocktails list good wine and great sakes. The manager at the door is great the open kitchen is unbelievable, the tuna is my favorite.

Fantastic Japanese food in a cool atmosphere. This place is a hidden gem but an absolute must if you are in Melbourne and love Japanese food. The scallops were to die for 👊

Great little restaurant / Bar located in the basement. Typical Melbourne Restaurant which an outsider wouldn't find. Good, contemporary food. Expect modern dishes priced reasonably high.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
