Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went on a public holiday so did expect full service. Our food was dreadful. Cold Duck breast with lots of bones was almost uneatable. The Pork dish was supplied with noodles uncut. When you lifted up some noodles you got the whole bundle. The supplied chopsticks wouldn't cut the noodles. The sizzling chicken was a joke - it didn't sizzle but lay there on the plate all dead and cold.
They operate an online ordering system requiring QR codes and mobile phones. Unless you are under 20 give up and go to Maccas.

We visited Hawker Chan restaurant because we've read the excellent reviews, that was awarded and that has the cheapest Michelin - awarded food in the planet. The food was actually good. Not that good though to go there again. It's an asian fast food restaurant with a small catalogue. The dishes are cheap... But they have small portions though ;)

We had been told to go to Hawker Chan by one of the guides on the Street Art Tour. He mentioned the Michelin rating and how cheap it is. We stopped by for lunch one day. We are huge Asian food fans and love a bowl of comfort food. We bought the Chicken with soy sauce that they are famous for, and the pork with rice. Neither were interesting or good. They were both very plain, and just ok. The food is inexpensive so we did not expect anything unreasonable, but even so with a Michelin Star it should have been really good. I would go to any of the hundreds of Asian restaurants all over Melbourne before going back here - there are so many great options, why go for boring?

Overstated and underwhelming !!! I bought a small plate of chicken noodle for $10.30 and a regular for $12.90, I really couldn’t tell the difference !! Both portions were ridiculously small, I finished it in 4 bites (not exaggerating at all).
The meat seem to be undercooked too, as red as the rose plants on my front lawn. With the same price, I would have doubled the portion at Secret Kitchen noodle shop or any Chinese restaurants!!
I am definitely not coming back again and I don’t care how many moons or stars you claimed you had !!
The only thing I enjoyed was the samba chilli !!

Very shocked at the ridiculously tiny portion at exorbitant price. I ordered the 2 meat platter which cost $14, got 8 small pieces of charsiu & 8 small pieces of roast pork. Definitely not going back.

The Lonsdale shop trades on the fact that the original Singapore shop has a Michelin star, but it certainly is not deserving of one.
There are many Asian restaurants and cafes that sell roast meats just as good (and better) with value pricing.
$15 for a very small meat platter of char siew and roast pork with no accompanying sauce.
A small bowl of wanton noodles with 3 average dumplings for $8.60.
Would not return when Melbourne has so many amazing choices.

I ordered and within five minutes my food was served to me. Unfortunately due to COVID the atmosphere feels a little isolated and desolate but that is something that cannot be helped during these unprecedented times.
My food was delicious - good portions, great flavour, and amazing price point! I payed less than $12 for a noodle meal with roast pork and wontons.
Would most definitely come back again. I would love to try more items from their menu and revisit at a time which was busier and allowed for people to safely dine in.

4.5. Hawker Chan launched their new 2020 Michelin menu which we got to try out at the event. We sampled some new dishes such as the fried tofu with prawns and mayo, spicy pork wonton, curry chicken with rice, chicken stock rice, pork meat rolls and deep fried pork with thai sauce and rice.
I really like the fried tofu with prawns as it was really crunchy on the outside, but soft and full of flavour and prawns on the inside. It was also nice on its own without the mayo!
My favourite of the night is the soya chicken on dry noodles. The noodles were drizzled with a really nice sauce which wasn't too salty, and had some chilli sauce on the side. The soya chicken was the most succulent, juiciest pieces of chicken ever! Seriously it is so addictive!
I also had a soy bean drink to go with the meals.
They have already opened a second store in Chaddy which I've been, but also opening 2 more outlets in Box Hill Central! Keep up the great food Hawker Chan!

Hainanese Chicken Rice is my most favourite food, I could eat a good one for lunch and dinner every day for the rest of my life I love it that much and when I’m in Singapore, it is a meal I eat every day, sometimes multiple times a day so I know Chicken Rice and the dish served at Hawker Chan was revolting!!! The chicken was served with bones, including the wings, it was cold and the broth was more soy than ginger. The soup was flavourless, the rice was ok. Service, atmosphere, the entire experience was awful. I cannot imagine that many people return here for a second visit. China Bar is just around the corner, whilst not Singapore standard, their Hiananese Chicken Rice is quite tasty.

Over rated, much better in Melbourne. Don't expect any service and remember to clear your own table! Food was average and over priced. $32 for lunch definitely not half the price of McDonald's that they claim. Tried it, but I'll give it a miss in future

It would be great to have a place like Hawker Chan in Sydney. Nevertheless when I do go to Melbourne, definitely can visit here for some good hawker food at affordable prices.
Service is fast and consistent so definitely can expect a pleasant experience dining here!

Arrived after 6pm, empty restaurant and only 2 staff members, one at counter and the other one in the kitchen. Ordered soya chicken and rice. Very disappointed. I can`t believe the standard has dropped so much.

Not the Hawker Chan I once was prepared to queue for an hour or so.
The roast meat is still very good but prices have unreasonably increased a level when it is no longer value for money.
The upside is no queue and plenty of spare seats to choose from.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
