For instant Spanish flair and taste, this is a yummy spot to rest and snack. Can be expensive if you get confused when paying the bill, by eftpos, as they 'give you're the option of paying a 'gratuity' which is really a tip. But good nonetheless.

We had been recommended to try MoVida and arrived quite early, but were ushered into a corner to wait with others for a table to be free. It was very busy and we waited about 30 minutes for a two chairs at the bar (with the other people waiting for a table bumping into us). The bar staff have to... More

I've been a fan of Frank Camorra's Movida for a long while now and it would be an unusual visit to Melbourne without having a meal there. And while it is not the most inexpensive of meals, I can say that it has always been worth what I was willing to spend there. This visit to MoVida Next Door, closer... More

We were spending a day walking around Melbourne and wanted somewhere convenient and informal for dinner, After checking reviews we chose this tapas bar near Federation Square, and close to the very popular Movida. There are no reservations in the evening and we arrived early, finding plenty of space. The bar has an interesting decor, simple seating and a friendly... More

Be sure to enjoy the walk to Movida Next Door as this adds to the overall experience. The graffiti / street art is reminiscent of Berlin (although not on such a grand scale) but its interesting and stimulating. The restaurant itself has a nice European charm and very good service. Was seated at the bar and promptly looked after. The... More

Tapas done well. Food highlights were the chorizo bomba, the anchoa, bistec and number 1 the cream catalana. The Cava, Rioja and Alicante by the glass were great, any easy sell to pass the time as you wait for a seat.

This restaurant has some great reviews but we struggled to find something on the menu to order and when we did order and receive 2 dishes (croquettes and potato bombs), we couldn’t taste what all the fuss was about. We decided not to order more dishes and left.

unfortunately i've been to Movida a few times now and it still hasn't wowed me!!! the bread with oil - large uneven chunks of dry bread, oil was nice. the croquettes were definitely the highlight - piping hot cheesy and delicious!! pork belly fatty and greasy tasting. the rice dish - 3 mussels and a couple of slices of calamari... For a quick lunch or lingering lunch, this restaurant has it all. The Tapas are super fresh, created brilliantly, taste amazing and served by exceptional staff. You can taste the quality of the ingredients used. We chose the cheese croquettes (delicious) Chorizo and salsa verde slider, tortilla and pardon peppers. We did not book for a quick lunch and were... More

Wanted to go to MoVida just a few doors down but there would be a long wait. Waiter suggested we try MoVida Next Door. More casual than MoVida which suited us as we had been to the theatre and were hungry. Very busy, noisy, cramped - all great fun. Menu well explained and the food excellent. We sat on stools... Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
