We booked a 6 course set menu for lunch. The scallops were succulent, tangy and a stand out and the delicate crab dish was tasty. The egg and corn dish was so filling, it was balanced with the richness of the egg and freshness of the corn, and the wagyu beef wrapped in pasta resembling tiny ravioli was spicy and absolutely delicious. We were starting to feel full and thought the final 2 courses would be small but the fifth course was quite large and heavy with the lamb shoulder. We only ate a small amount of lamb, tender and tasty but just too much quantity. The pork belly was tough and I think totally unnecessary and seems odd to me to have pork in a middle eastern menu. The standout was the delicately sweet and mildly spiced rice dish. We were so full, we needed to have a break before having a beautiful dessert with basil sorbet which tasted so good!!! Overall if we could do it again we would not order any lamb and stick to 4 courses or just 2 courses. The lighting was perhaps slightly too dark but intimate. The decor was sophisticated and modern. The service was excellent. On the down side, my cocktail glass had a chip in it and we had chipped bowls so told the staff. A fine dining venue should never use broken crockery or glasses. Overall we had a great time.

Very impressed with all elements of our dining experience. We dined here on New Year’s Eve with a set menu. The only down-side to the experience was that our 9-year-old who was with us, was served the same menu. It was half the price, however the food here is not really suitable for young palates. Having said that, the staff made an effort to accommodate him and seemed to accept that maybe they could adjust the menu to suit in future. The food is excellent and the service matched with detailed explanations of the food and proper service etiquette with the delivery and removal of dishes and clearing and set up of each course. Nick (who I assume is the Maître d’) was a great host and very professional. The decor, atmosphere and ambience were all up there too. Will definitely be back.

It was a couple of years since we'd dined at Maha. We'd loved all the meals there so my partner booked the restaurant to treat me for my birthday.
As before, service was attentive and professional. I thought the person who poured our glasses of sparking wine was a bit 'mean', pouring only about half the small Champagne glass for each of us. Four slurps and the wine was gone!
There are three set menus: two courses for $40, four for $60 and six for $80 per person. We chose four courses with the matched wine option for an additional $35 per person. (This did not include the sparkling. )
Courses were mezze, small dish, large dish with accompaniments and dessert. All were delicious. We were pleased we chose the matched wines. The two whites, one red and a glass of Tokay all complimented the food.
Servings were generous. We just fitted in dessert, which came after a complementary sorbet for birthday persons! We certainly did not need dinner that night!
Maha is one of Melbourne's gems. We hope to go back before my next birthday.

I would like to start off with the beginning of the night started with a seat at the bar. Bar staff were incredible! Our seating was at 8.15pm but we weren’t seated til close to 9pm. It wasnt a big deal until we were seated and the wait staff came over and explained to us the menu........ this is where it progressively got worse. Our waitress asked if we wanted an assortment of water and after gave her our option, she disappeared for 15 minutes and we had to ask for some. The entree came with a flair but what we got was a hastly slapped down in a bowl slab of unseasoned mince hidden under a elaborate foam of beef crackle. The rest of the meal was incredibly mediocre and a slice of tomato with vegan goats cheese to share between three people. There is fine dining and there is just an incredible joke of a meal. For $90 per person, l felt l would have had a better meal if my 13 year old son made it. The wait staff were either very unseasoned or suited up to stand at the glass cabinet checking if there were any smears on the goblets while we looked on waiting still water. They actually looked inconvenienced when l asked where the rest room was. I don’t rate this place at all and the pomp and grandeur of the decor seemed wasted on such bad service and food. If anyone felt this place has great food obviously has never tried proper Mediterranean food without the attitude

Very disappointing!! We dined here over the weekend our booking was for 845pm we waited just over 20min to be seated. Once seated we then waited at least 15min for our waiter to attend to us with the drinks menu and water. I have been to Maha quite a few times over the years and never experienced such bad service and the staff not being attentive. We waited a long time in between courses too and got our first course at around 950pm, in the end we lost our appetite after being so hungry on arrival. The food was good but not so outstanding like it used to be at Maha back in the old days. The flat bread was stale/hard in the king prawn dish which wasn’t pleasant to eat. The chicken rice was my favourite out of the dishes so much flavour was packed into it and the chicken was so moist. The other dishes were good but not outstanding. The portion sizes are not as generous nowadays and I was disappointed with the amount of lamb we got for the main course which was only like 2 strips and the fattoush salad looked like it had just been chucked in the dish. The food was way too salty by the end of it we were so thirsty and for the rest of the night into the next day. It is overpriced for what you get now and plus a 10% surcharge on weekends.

We booked a family lunch for Xmas day and prepaid the $220/head as required. We've dined at Maha previously and the food was as good as ever, but there was pressure from wait staff to buy ridiculously overpriced alcohol, which made many of us uncomfortable. The waiter then spilled espresso martinis over 3 guests and, whilst very apologetic, offered nothing more. The final insult was a surprise $697 surcharge tacked onto the bill. We dine out every Xmas and have never had this charge hidden and added on - it has always been included in the upfront price per head. This ended the day on a very sour note. There are suburban restaurants with better food at a fraction of the price.

As our previous experience at Maha few years ago had been lovely, four of us went there about a month ago. The sessions are now two hours due to COVID so we booked 6.30-8.30. The advice we got from the staff was that there is still plenty of time to have the 5 course option which they promoted as their signature, so we ordered this.
They kicked us out soon after 8.30 so we were were hardly able to taste dessert. They still charged us full price.
We also noticed that when we ordered a bottle of wine they promoted something that was about $100 more saying that was much better than the selected option. This was quite disappointing as there was not much time to enjoy the wine or the meal! Felt like they tried to squeeze much as possible out of us. The food was tasty but not as good as the last time we went. Will take Maha off my list.

Let me start by saying this was my favourite restaurant in Melbourne for along time. So much so I had my wedding dinner here but our last experience left me angry and disappointed.
I’m not sure if it’s because of covid and the fact it’s a lot harder to find decent staff now but a lot of the wait staffs English was terrible, they couldn’t explain our dishes to us and couldn’t take our order correctly, not usually such a big deal but at a high end restaurant with our bill for two people being $475.00 with 4 drinks between us it starts meaning something.
We also had our mains sit in front of us for around 45 minutes before I had to go out of my way to get someones attention which meant we didn’t have time for the dessert course (also couldn’t get to takeaway) of the digustatiin as it was supposedly a 2 hour sitting though we were there for 3.5 hours and our baby sitter had to leave.
On top of all this the food wasn’t what it used to be, relatively tasteless compared to the magical old Maha food years ago.
Won’t be back, gone from one of the best to very sub par especially considering the bill!

Even though at the end the billing issue was resolved, still left a bad impression of this restaurant.
We came here today for celebrating early mothers day. The lunch menu was $55pp and the desserts were extra $15pp. The waiter who took the order for us said we can just order two portions to share between the four of us, as I am currently pregnant and don't want to have too much sugar.
However, after the main, one portion of Turkish delight donuts and two creme brulee were served. I thought it was weird but some restaurants do split the dishes nicely if we were sharing, so we just ate it anyway.
When the bill came, 3 portions of desserts were charged, so we asked the waiter why? As I specifically asked for two portions of desserts and he said ok. His reply was: he didn't think the creme brulee was enough to share between four of us, so he ordered an extra portion without asking us.
I found that absurd and I asked how can he make the decision for us without asking me first? And told him that he should remove it from the bill.
He said we've already eaten the desserts so there's nothing he can do about it and offered to give us coffees instead.
At this stage, I was very unhappy about the way he's handling this. So I asked for his name as I want to make a complain. He replied me: what's the problem?
Seriously what's the problem? I just told him the problem... At the end, he finally went to find the manager and got if resolved, however, it already made a bad impression on the customer service of this restaurant. So ya, that's my review of this restaurant from today.

We had the three course set menu with wine. The food was nice enough but nowhere near good enough for the prices they charge. There were 6 of us dining and all courses came on two small plates to be shared between 3. When the main course (lamb) came on two small dishes to be shared between 6 I thought it was a mistake. $90 per person plus $55pp for the wine and then at the end over $100 of service charges on top? You can get better food, and more of it, almost anywhere in Melbourne for that money.

Disappointing experience. The set menus are overpriced for the small portion sizes and slow service. Both my partner and I were brought food items that we were allergic to even after making multiple service staff members aware of the allergies before the meal started.

my husband & I visited Maha a week ago for our wedding anniversary.
The sophisticated interior with it’s copper and gold color is very stylish.
We selected Soufra banquet menu and added on Grilled Prawns & Lamb Cutlets for main, honestly it’s great value for money, I was full after all Meze dishes, the smoked hummus with caramelized onions and lamb is a taste explosion in your mouth. Turkish Delight rosewater-glazed doughnuts, it’s like Greek-style loukoumades, simply delicious.
Top notch service provided by professional waiting staff plus a sommelier suggested an excellent bottle of French Riesling.
We have been to many find dining restaurants in Melbourne including a few recently top rated, but I have to say this one has all of them covered. Thank you, Maha, for making our anniversary very special.

My fiancé and I went to Maha for my birthday lunch and I’m so glad this was our restaurant of choice.
I had been to Maha before for a work event and had a great experience and this time around was no exception.
The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food is just incredible.
One thing that always makes a dining experience memorable for me is when the menu items are not things I can easily make at home myself (especially when the restaurant is on the pricier end) and that’s what we got at Maha.
Every dish was mouthwatering and so full of exotic flavours that work so well together.
As a gluten free diner, I definitely didn’t feel like I was missing out and felt well catered for.
The quality of ingredients is great and the serving sizes are very generous, so much so that we were so fully from our 1pm lunch that we didn’t eat at all for the rest of the day (which is rare for my fiancé especially).
Maha changes their menu every 6 weeks so I already can’t wait to go back and see what incredible new dishes they come up with.

Out kiids treated us to lunch at Maha fpr Mother's Day, and I must say the food was delicious. We had baked salmon, plus a varithy of side dishes. The stracciadella, a mix of cream cheese, walnuts and figs, was piquant.. The meal was full of flavour. To go tith the meal, we had a bottle of Hardy s South Australian 'chardonnay, a robust wine that accompanied the dishes excellently.. My wife said that it was a mavellous meal, with more than enough to eat, a great way to celebrate Mother's Day.

The food is amazing and great vegetarian options too but you can read lots of reviews on the food on here. My comments relate to the service which is impeccable but also relaxed. The Sommelier doesn’t push the most expensive wines. The water glasses are topped up before empty. The servers whisk away finished dishes only after ALL diners have finished. They ask if you want a short break between mains and dessert. They top up the wine before empty and if you have a drink from the bar they ask if you want another before you are finished so you are not without a drink. As well, my personal waiter, after I had paid, waited at the front door to open it as we were leaving. Impeccable.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
