Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went for a drink here with my husband as our son was considering it as a wedding venue and wanted to check it out. Nice place overall BUT the cleaners need to do a better job in the toilets, they were not clean at...all! Look up please, the air vents have not been cleaned in forever! Dust and cobwebs hanging down! Expensive venues such as this need to do better, it’s the little things people notice!More

This venue is in an old warehouse in a highly trafficked area. It is a vary large space that accommodates plenty of diners. The place was totally packed when we visited on a Friday morning, but we were quickly seated and served. The cappuccinos were...great and the breakfast choices were even better. Avocado on a large soft pretzel surely had more than one avocado on it and was wonderful. The hotcake with a large scoop of very soft ricotta on top with fruits and seeds was awesome and too large for me to finish. Sad. I want to open a clone of this place in Manhattan, but that seems highly unlikely. Obviously, highly recommended.More

The best service and coffee. My daughter also loved the iced chocolate with ice cream. Thanks for your friendly environment.

As someone with a sweet tooth, I couldn't manage to finish the hotcake that's so highly praised here. It's just too sweet and large by European standards! The place on Saturdays is also quite noisy.

Food / coffee was average at best, service was poor, toilets were filthy, they refused to split our bill 50/50 with our friends, and we got asked to leave our table when we didn't order more drinks. All in all a dissapointing (and expensive) experience.

The good people at Her Melbourne (see my review) recommended Higher Ground as a good place for breakfast. The restaurant is a very large open space with tables on several different levels. Very interesting architecturally. Good menu, friendly staff. The one important drawback: the delay...between the preparation and the service of our order. Everything was tepid when served - and I don't like warm eggs, cold toast & tepid coffee. Don't come here if you want a piping hot breakfast. Management needs to do something to ensure faster service of meals!More

I visited Higher Ground on a bustling Wednesday morning, 1st November, at 8:30 am and the place was packed. Note to future patrons: reservations are highly recommended to secure a spot in this popular eatery. Despite the crowd, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there with...colleagues. The ambiance was delightful, offering a comfortable setting. I was pleasantly surprised by the occasional presence of birds flying around inside the dining room, adding a unique charm to the atmosphere, though it did raise concerns about accidental droppings on the food. Nevertheless, the decor was tastefully done, and I appreciated the warm tones and the view of the open kitchen. The coffee was excellent, and although the menu was small, it was efficient. I opted for the mushroom on toast, which was an absolute delight. The earthy flavor of the mushrooms combined with the melted cheese on sourdough bread created a heavenly combination that left me thoroughly satisfied. One of my colleagues had an order of toast, vegemite, and avocado, which was unfortunately forgotten by the waiter. However, the staff quickly rectified the mistake upon realizing it, showing professionalism in handling the situation. Overall, my experience at Higher Ground was enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to returning. The slight cleanliness issue in the bathroom aside, the charming ambiance, delectable food, and friendly service make it a worthwhile dining destination.More

Tom was our waiter for breakfast. His attn to detail was outstanding. His friendly nature made our experience memorable, we will be back!! The food was sensational, the eggs are divine. Wish we could get scramble eggs like that in Adelaide. As a group of...5, we were all very happy with food choices. All 5 meals were delicious. We Highly recommended this place.More

The venue is impressive with its high ceilings, brick walls and various levels. The service was pretty much as you might expect; friendly and professional. As for the food disappointing. The Ricotta Hotcake was large, thick, and dense and grossly over-priced at $28. The coffee...was fine, overall average at best. But it was busy!!More

It is probably one of my favorite places to brunch in Melbourne. The location is incredibly close to Southern Cross station, right in the middle of the CBD, and the food is always great and even I visited twice during my Melbourne trip! I love...how they offer a wide range of menu options, from simple breakfasts with a twist, like their Chili Scrambled Eggs, to delightful additions like the Honey Halloumi on the side—super delicious! I would recommend people to go earlier or try to make a reservation, as the place tends to get quite packed and it could be harder to secure a table for a walk-in group of 4-5 people. But I'm definitely planning on returning when I'm back visiting Melbourne!More

Higher Ground is part of the successful Darling Group offerings across Melbourne. And as many will already know, they have a stable of the best and coolest all day dining (and dinner) cafe/restaurants across this city. Think Top Paddock, Kettle Black, Dundas & Faucett, Bambu...etc, etc, etc. And Higher Ground in its truly beautiful old heritage listed Melbourne Powerhouse @ 650 Little Bourke Street built more than a century ago, is probably the most stunning and beautifully restored restaurant premises in Melbourne - typically modern but retaining all of the old building charms. With ceilings more than 15 metres in height it allows for a series of levels throughout the building broken into smaller and intimate spaces, all the while however without walls or totally enclosed areas. It's style, ambience, vibe are the equal of anywhere - and it really is a delightful experience. Then there's the food - all looking delicious including some dishes shared/borrowed from sister cafes such as the wonderful hotcakes. Service by friendly and attentive staff is great as is the coffee, food and ambience.... and did I mention the stunning building !! Add to that it's fully licensed. Open from around 7am-4pm seven (7) days a week - but to ensure avoiding a queue, booking in advance is recommended. It's hard to leave, but when that time comes, it's with a happy and wonderful feeling from a visit to a very special place.More

Situated opposite Southern Cross station this stunning place is huge but I suggest to book as it is very popular. Menu is small but the quality is very good although a little on the pricey side. Service is quick and you sort feel as if...they want you in and out. Also not as attentive service for the price you are paying - they completely forgot to bring one of our friends drinks which wasn’t too hard to remember.More

Amazing service and food. Even though there is a long waiting list for walk-in it was very well organized and they messaged us once the table was available. Will definitely come again.

Great venue, coffee, food and awesome ambience. Extremely busy so you have to book in advance. I felt they were victims of their own success where business means they lose the opportunity to remain courteous to their patrons. Business means there are delays and the...kitchen is not able to keen up with number of customers in the establishment versus the order for food and coffee. Would definitely be back!!More
