Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant is on a small pedestrian side street lined with many restaurants. Plenty of outdoor tables. They offer a good variety of small plates to share. Our server was helpful in suggesting what we may like, as some of the items we had never...had. She was very friendly. The service was great. Restaurant was clean. The food was very good. Great place for dinner at a reasonable price.More

Tasty small plates included the usual oysters and grilled octopus. First time for stingray; highly recommended. Good desserts of creme bruele andpanna cotta. Lots of fun with an accordion and squeezebox duo.

Friendly service, but overpowering air freshener smell indoors that detracted from food taste Fish ceviche spot on, but mussells over salty and frankly not enjoyable Service is with a smile but also with forgets of serving beverages until after food finished, and errors in drinks...fonally brought after a reminder. I really wanted to like this place after reading all the good reviews.. but sadly left disappointed. Maybe mid afternoon with only 1 other table of customers was just a bad time ? Ditch the air freshener though please !More

The menu is quite different - seems to have more it. Menus were tatty, and prices different to website. Food received was not up to expectations. Images on website promised something much better. North African Lamb came with bones and almonds. Meals were served within 10min of sit down. Fish Sandwich or Fish on Bread. Flavourless, dry, and cold. Store bought bread (was obvious) Calamari was 8 strips. Granted not overcooked but more of an entree than a main. Obviously Chef Mic was in service. Telephone number doesn't connect. Not a claypot in sight. Bit misleading on the name. Should be Microwave Barbarossa Probably best to give this place a skip.More

We had a great day walking around Melbourne. We decided to stop by one of the Lanes that we had explored on our Laneway tour. Claypots was a good choice. We ordered two glasses of the Happy Hour wine, red and white. We shared the...Greek salad and the cucumber salad. My wife had the Marinara pasta small dish and I had the small Flounder that was just enough and very tasty. we enjoyed the food, music, service, ambiance and the decor.More

I sat outside in Hardware Lane for the colour and atmosphere - freezing cold but fun. The service was prompt and super friendly. Sardines and chilli toast were exactly right for a late afternoon snack and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

We were staying nearby and kept sampling the various eateries along lovely Hardware Lane. Today it was Claypots Barbarossa. Another good choice. We shared lots of dishes, which seemed to be the right way to go. We started witn divine Clam & Ham Chowder. Then...we took Toast with Caramelized Onion and Anchovies, Chili Bread, Stuffed Eggplant and Seared Swordfish with Crushed Potatoes. It was happy hour so we had great Lager and Wheat Beer. Great Atmosphere!! Nice Food!!More

Not terrible, but disappointing given the reviews and the menu. Food lacked flavour and that pizazz. It was just average which is a shame given the menu.

This restaurant was lovely, had really nice service and a great selection of seafood. The food was fresh and very tasty. However, although they have a kids menu it is a bit misleading. The kids food was a bit too gourmet. I wasn’t expecting chicken...nuggets but for a seafood restaurant they could have had kids fish and some sort of chips. The potatoes offered for kids were delicious for adults but too out there for kids. I wouldn’t mind eating here again but won’t be bringing kids again.More

Lunch for 3. Our meals didn’t arrive together even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. I ordered the mains of paella against the special as I was told it came with king prawnS. I got one king prawn and it cost $10!! The fish and rice...was dry and apart from the solitary prawn it came with 3 mussels. There was some fish in the rice but not much. My friends said their meals were ‘okay’ but we all agreed it was not the same as 12 months ago when we had been.More

At the entrance to bustling Hardware Lane, Mediterranean genuine hole in the wall with laneway seating. When will restaurants learn that tables should have three legs? Apart from that, good service from the multi-national crew (very Med that), an extensive repertoire with a mix of...North and African Med dishes, and great vibe on New Years Eve with live music in the street. The signature Spaghetti Marinara Bianco was excellent, the Lamb Kofta on point, and dessert also well done. Give it a go, set a foot firmly on one table leg, and get stuck in.More
