We had dinner here on Saturday 27 January 2024 prior to going to see Grease at Her Majesty's. Our family had visited Seamstess prior to the pandemic and enjoyed it immensely. Out family were pleased to see that this business survived the long Melbourne lockdowns and so wanted to give it a try again. We were not disappointed.
On 27 January 2024 we had dinner here with our two young adult daughters. Our family were served promptly and attentively and we were off to the theatre promptly,
I have booked again for dinner before taking our adult daughters to see Chicago over the Easter weekend.
Our families personal choices in relation to the menu were that we particularly enjoyed the Betel Leaf entrees and then the pork belly.
A note of caution. If you have mobility issues you will need to consider your ability to access the high stairs to access the main dining room.
Further, the ladies lavatories when we attended we not flushing at all. This is a matter between landlord and tenant.

At the Cocktail bar on the top floor, Saturday night walk in, not expecting a place, but got lucky.
Service was superb, cocktails very tasty and food so delicious that we have since tried to replicate some of the recipes at home.
Most servings are small tasting size dishes, but are also inexpensive, so easy to order extra.
We will gladly visit here again, and have recommended Seamstress to several friends that would enjoy this venue.

The food is genuinely interesting, creative, well presented and very tasty. The service was excellent and the wine good. The vibe and decor of the restaurant was cosy, warm, friendly and good. I thought the portion sizes were a bit on the small side and the price of beer and wines was excessive, which is the only reason I'd be unlikely to return. The food was excellent.

Couldn’t get our requested time however the restaurant was relatively quiet for the time we were there. Our soft shell crab was an extremely small “share plate” and certainly not value for money. Did politely share this with staff on our departure.

Had a great night here before going to a show. From the moment we walked in Dimitri made us very welcome and comfortable. He gave us great suggestions and descriptions of the food and the drinks to. We ended up having a banquet and weren’t disappointed. Each course was tastefully presented, had really tasty food and a good quantity. Food was prepared beautifully. Dimitri was aware of our theatre booking so ensured food was served in a timely but well spaced manner. Definitely going back again.

This was very disappointing. Despite lengthy descriptions from waitstaff (owners?) about preparation of each dish, few lived up. I doubt anything had been near sous vide. The soft shell crab wouldn’t have been bad if served at a very basic country RSL; pork belly was as dry as hangover mouth and the roti were hard, so hard that the rolled up edges were sharp to bite. On the upside, the cocktails were decent and service and the space is fun. That said, I wouldn’t return; Melbourne has so many truly great Asian restaurants but this isn’t one of them.

The quality of the food is outstanding, & the ambience divine.
However, the serving portions left a lot to be desired & a staff member trying every angle to get a tip was not a pleasant experience.
We paid for a $65 per person 3 course banquet (there were 9 of us) and we got enough food for 3 courses for about 3 people only.
My old school maths suggests this is 3 times the profit !
Very disappointing.
But, I will go back and order a la carte as the food was delicious. Hopefully, I'll get enough food on my plate so I don't leave hungry & disappointed (read: ripped off).

The servings at Seamstress are quite small (more like an Entrée size for mains), which makes it expensive for what you get. The food was delicious - dumplings, duck veggies etc. But I did feel like I needed to go somewhere after to get filled up.
Desserts were great - brownie was superb.

Scraped in a 4 because of the Brussel sprouts - so nice I want the recipe! The other dishes were pleasant enough but less memorable. The mapo tofu was tasty and not too spicy. The Korean chicken had the kick as expected and done well, the fish curry nice too. Service was a little off on the night, as I think it was pretty busy. The entree and two mains came out together with the rice at first and then it took a little too long for the last main and side to come out (we had finished everything else), we had to order another rice but may not have needed it if the dishes were all at the same time. Because of this delay we did not get a chance to try dessert as we had to rush off for a show.

Honestly, I wasn't keen when a friend suggested Seamstress. I cannot begin to tell how wrong I was with this first thought.
A Monday night in Melbourne and we had the most unexpected and fabulous night. A great feel to the upstairs bar where you can also eat. Jaagup made us some delicious drinks from an unbelievable selection. I know it's very old fashioned but the whiskey sour was divine and The Lady in Red a whole new experience. Definitely go with the tasting selection, best choice ever, the pork belly, absolutely melts in your mouth. Great music, we actually danced in the aisle to this beautiful jazz (no one batted an eyelid). This was one of the most wonderful dinner experiences. An absolute must to try. Thank you Seamstress, I just want to live there. ❤️

ate there last night after a show. Never been before and have to say really enjoyed a light selection of dishes eating around 9pm. Asian inspired but interesting flavours. Outstanding was a simple cauliflower dish but the flavour was so good. Distressed look dining up two flights of stairs so not the best access for my wife who recently had a kneee replacement. Also dinning room is open air one end and unfortunately was 39 degrees in melbourne that day and was to be fair a bit hot inside.
Slight negative was the roti which was doughy. Will definately be back.

I loved the flavours in each of the dishes we ordered. We got to try 6 dishes between the 2 of us because they generally do sharing plates that are small enough to have that many dishes. And i love that because you get to really try some incredible flavours and dishes. The staff were very friendly and helpful when it came to our food allergies. The cocktails we had were also fantastic and refreshing. I also loved the decoration suspended from the ceiling, absolutely beautiful. The broccoli and rocket salad was incredible and I will now be putting fermented ginger in all my salads :)
We had a quick turn around time as we had to see a show at 7 and they were very accommodating to ensure we were on time.

4 of us ate here recently after a show.
The venue was nice and quiet and the staff wonderful: attentive and friendly.
We didn't love the food. Some of the dishes we enjoyed more than others.
The squid, which was the most expensive item we got was really quite chewy.
Somehow the flavours didn't quite work for us.

My friend and I came here and were really impressed with the food. The wine list was so-so with some average options for by the glass but the food was fab. All items come in small medium and large like clothes and once you choose - they decide the best size and order and they do this very very well! Really amazing food with the sprouts and short rib as highlights for both of us!

We were well looked after from entry to departure. David the main person was very good and oversaw all aspects of the dinner. They did ask if we were going to a theatre and service was very quick. The waitress was on hand to explain menu options. The place is quaint and getting up to the stairs to the dining room can pose an issue for some. Overall we enjoyed the dinner and drink and prices were reasonable

Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
