Visiting Hobart for work I must have walked past this place a dozen times and not seen it - very unassuming. My loss.
Surprised that even on a Monday night, when I rang to book a table I had to wait until 8pm. Now I...know why.
The decor is slightly tacky faux ancient Greek, but it set the theme.
I was greeted politely and shown to a table. There are two long tables near the door that appeared to be communal eating, but even though I was alone I was ushered to a 'proper' table.
When asked whether the ciders on the menu were sweet or dry, the waitress helpfully found out. Only sweet options, so I had a beer - rare for me.
Being brought up on a sheep farm lamb chops are a favourite, so I indulged in the lamb cutlets. With Greek influences where I live, I am very familiar with the flavours of Greek charcoal cooking, and this was an excellent example. Four well done (but not dry) cutlets were served on a bed of eggplant mash with roast chickpeas and some sprouts - it was delicious. I was enticed to a dessert which was also very nice, sort of a vanilla slice with small dollops of cream, a strawberry puree and fresh strawberries. Not sickly sweet like many Greek desserts, and how I prefer them.
Even the decaf coffee was first-rate.
Staff were genuinely friendly, professional, and did a great job.
Not a cheap venue, but not over-the-top either, and worth every cent.More
