What a cosy pub, with a fireplace, friendly and helpful service!
We came here for after work drinks, and as i was a tourist in town i wanted somewhere and relaxing, not to loud so we could still chat and catch-up. This was the perfect place!
Food and drink was delish, the steak was cooked just how i wanted, and plenty of side salad provided rather than chips. A colleague had the wallaby, and loved it, very nice piece of meat!
Service was great, thanks to the young lady looking after us on the evening we were there.
Vibey cosy , warm pub, with great food, you cant go wrong!

This was an oasis in Hobart with it's beer garden, good beer selection, good food as well as an outdoor smoking area as it was outside the no smoking zone in Hobart.
The bar staff (unsure of his name but maybe a Kiwi with a man bun) were welcoming and helpful as we selected the local beverages. I loved the New Sydney Pale Ale particular in the pint size and my wife loved the Boag's red.
We ate there and the chicken parmigiana was amazing as the ham used was exquisite in taste.
During our stay we went there once for drinks / dinner and twice for a refreshing beer in the afternoon.

I visited on a Wednesday evening, felt extremely comfortable as a solo diner, pleasant atmosphere, enjoyable background music, extremely welcoming and accommodating staff. I ordered the steak, chips, and green dressed salad leaves with mushroom sauce, it was absolutely divine, best steak AND best chips I've eaten in decades. Thoroughly enjoyed my dish, drinks and visit, and commended the wonderful young lass upon her impeccable service. Highly recommend this place.

! It used to be great but now the food is like cardboard and you have to pay extra for chips and salad which one would expect comes with a pub meal.
Service is mediocre and the pub has lost it's locals feel.
Full of tourists so I think they cash in on that but then the tourists are gone and lots of locals have stopped going.
Way more better and proper pubs out there. Hope and Anchor better these days and culturally more significant.

The decor suggest the atmosphere a bit pub style but we are so surprised that their food is so above the pub standard! Lots of interesting items on their menu with good price too. We tried the crispy pig ear, goat jaffle and scotch M9 wagyu slice as entree - all delicious, the m9 wagyu slice is to die for!! For main we shared the wagyu rump, again just so delicious! The only downside is, waiter probably forgot to ask how well we want it be, and it came out a bit overcooked.
Service was very good too.
Dont miss this one if you're in town.

Oh my goodness, the New Sydney is amazing. Welcoming & friendly hospitality professionals work here - yipeeee! The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is warm, friendly and very lively (no TV's or pokies!!) The food is delicious, unfussy, but so creative and generous.
We first visited on a hectic Easter Sunday night. Despite the number of people being served the service didn't falter. This place is so good we went back with a big group the next night on Easter Monday to try more of the menu! Our favourite dishes were the beef lips with gnocchi, chicken Parma, crispy lamb, smoked Wagyu, the cherry ripe dessert and the pineapple cake.
The New Sydney Hotel is the definition of THE perfect Pub. Can't wait to visit again, love it!

Quoted to be the best little pub in Hobart and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff, mixed range of patrons, good food (I had the porterhouse steak which was delicious and tender) and live music in the rear garden. Walking distance from our hotel near Salamanca Markets. (date of visit Friday, 29 April).

I booked for dinner and as soon as I opened the front door, all I could smell was cigarettes and mould and my feet stuck to the old cigarette butt burnt carpet. We left before even sitting down at the table. Once I left the venue my eyes and throat were burning from the cigarette smell. Don’t waste your time! Unless you want to smash Guinness pints and smoke like a chimney then it’s your heaven!

A fairly ordinary pub. We went for dinner and sat upstairs. Lots of room and the staff were friendly and accomodating. The food was ok pub quality except for the pork which was undercooked and fatty. Other than the pork everyone enjoyed their meals. Children were welcomed.

Two of us had dinner (and enjoyed it enough to return the following evening for dinner a second time).
Some oddities on the menu (eg starter of crispy deep fried strips of pigs ear. Main of "pigs face" which included the snout). We are nose to tail diners so this was good.
Very generous portions and interesting drinks list including decent craft beers.
Good service and engaging wait staff.

Very unpleasant experience! I had market fish and it wasn't tasty or appealing at all! It was served with kind of mashed potato and no souce at all. The fish had a funny smell.Didn't enjoy neither meal nor atmosphere! The ambience was outdated! Do not recommend.

Really enjoyed this place. The pigs ears have a really good side sauce. The cabbage was a surprise hit as well. I’d rate the hamburger up there too. Ate in the bar but the service was great. Definitely worth a visit

Stopped in on a Thursday night and was lucky to get a table as it does fill up and is small. We had a few beers and started with the fried pickles which were good. We split the beef pie and fish and chips. Both were quite good, but the beef pie really stood out

We are so lucky in Tasmania that we can go out , in a sort of Covid safe way. The New Sydney was on the limits of that safety bubble - but was a great opportunity to have some normality when I went out for dinner with my wife.
Some parts were a little crowded, but we found a “safer” place in the rear.
So glad we did as the beer and cider were cold, the room was warm and the food, fantastic.
I had a steak chops and salad. All were superior to other pub meals I have had. Wife had lamb, potatoes and curd.
Presented in a different way to combine all the flavours.

Visited the Restaurant on a Saturday night due to the amazing reviews. The staff were extremely attentive, friendly and efficient. The meal was yummy and reasonably priced. Friendly, happy atmosphere. So friendly we took a photo with the people at the table next to ours. They had been indulging in Guinness since lunchtime 🤠. We enjoyed it so much we went back on the Wednesday night for dinner again.
