An amazing dinner

I have legitimately created a profile just to review this resteraunt. It is hands down the best service I have ever received. We had a table of six along with our toddler in a high chair, and although the resteraunt was packed, they made us (And our young child in particular) feel absolutely welcomed and cared for. Throughout the night special cutlery and plates where brought out, toys provided, and even a little pizza dough so our child could make his own pizza at the table that was cooked and taken home. Simply incredible service. To top it off the food was well priced, and absolutely wonderful. I would recommend this place for anyone without hesitation.

Best night out

My husband and I were staying near by on Sandy Bay amd came across Solo. It was an amazing find. We hadn't made a booking, it was packed, but the owner to our surprise had a table ready for us in 5 minutes. We would have been happy to wait, especially after the great night we had, it was worth it. The owner was very friendly and chatted to us as if we were close friends. Our main waitress Emilia really made our night too. She was bubbly, friendly, happy to help us with recommendations, she worked out quickly that we were laid back (and enjoying the wine) so she was comfortable enough to crack some jokes with us. Our glass never stayed empty for long, every waitress that wandered by was attentive and friendly. It's been a long time since we've been somewhere where everyone seems to truly love their job, even with how busy it was!! The food was beautiful too, I had so many gluten free options to choose from and my husband was impressed with the wide authentic Italian pizza range, with some aussie options too. I decided on a gluten free gnocchi with the Al Funghi sauce. I would have licked the plate clean if it was socially acceptable! This would be our go to place if we were locals. Thank you to the staff for truly making our night!!

Great Food, Clean, Friendly Service and Reasonably priced

Walked in as a group of 5 without a reservation, we apologised for the oversight and was told to wait a few minutes while they disinfected and set up a table for us. Owner was on hand and offered us a drink each while waiting.This alone was extraordinary for us. Ordered and received food that was simply put absolutely delicious! We have been here before and can only say the food quality is exemplary without the unnecessary bs that typically comes with italian food. Service at the table was very attentive, staff were always topping up our drinks and enquiring to see if we were fine. The ambience was tasteful and classy and very welcoming of families. Good drinks selection,some very classic italian dishes - the Osso Bucco was just perfect and high quality pizzas that dont scrimp on ingredients. Keep up the good work guys.

If you’re looking for a vibrant and enthusiastic family-friendly environment, this is your spot. But couples can enjoy this too, if you’re happy to be open to the cacophony of children and babies at most tables. All the usual Italian favourites are here on the menu (including some well-chosen vinos), and the waiting team serve with big smiles. Hearty, wholesome and honest - and a good location near the CBD.

Delicious but....?

On a recommendation from the owners of the accommodation we stayed at in Hobart, we decided to try Solo. We were greeted by friendly staff, after some confusion about the name I had booked under. The rose arrived quickly and the calamari as an entree was not far away. It was a generous serve and very tasty. Why we waited over forty minutes for our pizza was never explained? We felt we had been forgotten when tables who were seated and ordered some time after us were served their meals. We were happy to overlook this extra long wait because when our pizza finally arrived it was a very generous serving with a thick and tasty chicken topping. What left us puzzling however was the offer of a complimentary garlic bread to the table next to ours. They had waited a very short amount of time to earn this compared to how long we waited without complaint. Puzzling to say the least! Maybe they were locals and we were recognised as tourists. I am rating it a very good for the food, but an average for the service.

A Wonderful Find

As we couldn’t get a booking to eat at Da Angelo, decided to try Solo when visiting Hobart. We were so glad we did. This restaurant was everything a local Italian should be. We were quickly greeted and ushered to a table in a quieter part of the busy restaurant, and proceeded to have a great night out. Our Host/owner was attentive not only to us, but every one in the restaurant, buzzing around, making sure everything was perfect and clearly loving his role. Our two dishes, prawn pasta and veal with Bolognaise sauce were both delicious, this we paired with a chilled local Rose wine. A complimentary Limoncello was offered and this rounded off a perfect night. Highly recommended, wish this restaurant was in Sydney.

Excellent Experience

We booked this restaurant after we spoke to the manager, as my husband has a gluten allergy. We had the Piccante Risotto, which was delicious, together with a large pizza, both were very tasty, the staff were aware of the allergy, they were all great, very accommodating, the manager came around to make sure all was well, which is very unusual these days. Overall we had great good & spectacular service.

We had a party of 21 (made up of 10 x 11 year old boys and 10 adults) for 6.00pm. The numbers dropped from my original booking but I kept the restaurant up to date. When we arrived we only had 17, they added another table but still we had to ask for yet another table as we was still short 3 places (to which they challenged that we did have enough). That was all sorted and we ordered. Entrees came out with the mains which wasn’t ideal but not the end of the world. Food came out in good time and was all really nice. As we was eating I noticed a sign near the register that said 5% surcharge when bill split for 3 or more. We had at least 10 that wanted to pay seperate, so I asked about and the owner (I believe he was) said an extra 50 cents per person - ok sure. After we ate people started to go up and pay for what they had, my family and another family were last to pay as we finished off our drinks, but was asked to move from the table as they had another booking, this was 7.30pm. I was not told when I booked that there was a limit on the time. We (the last 2 families) went to pay to be advised that there was over $400 left. We was shocked as that was for 4 adults and 4 kids. We challenged the bill to find that we had been charged for multiple drinks that no one had and meals still on the bill that others had paid for or no one had even ordered. The owner/manager had no idea what was going on and kept asking the waitress, she agreed that some items should not have been there. 30 minutes later (after checking all receipts paid) we agreed to only pay for what was ours. An additional $70plus was worth of errors/items not removed. That will be a last for me. Very unorganised and very dodgy. Be sure to check your bill.

My husband and I had a wonderful meal and experience at SOLO. I chose the restaurant for our last dinner in Tassie based off so many positive reviews. The pasta was delicious, generous, and well-priced. Although the restaurant was incredibly busy, the service was warm and inviting. We sat at the bar because we hadn’t made a reservation. This allowed us to watch Francesco and Sam interact with each customer. It was obvious that there are many regulars and the staff really make everyone feel welcome. I’m disappointed that we didn’t find this place earlier in our trip because we would have come again and again to try more dishes from the menu. A definite highlight of our trip! I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time because it does get extremely busy. Takeaway is available, though.

New owners even better

I live in Sorell so don’t go up to Sandy Bay very often, but I’ve been to Solo a handful of times over the years. The food is always great, and now with the new owners they seem to have, the service is actually even better. Very impressed, food has never taken an excessive amount of time no matter how busy they are. This was my favourite visit so far. We had a garlic pizza to start which was delicious, and an antipasto platter - YUM. For main I had a Honolulu pizza and my partner had the bolognese pasta. Yum, highly recommend this place even though it is pricey.

I ordered a pizza from this restaurant and I loved it. They had all the flavors in it. Secondly, they delivered in 15 minutes which was incredible as it came in good timing and was served hot. Honestly as a gentleman, I would recommend this restaurant to be number one in Italian meals. Cheers, Anand.

Very plain Italian - more suited to takeaway pizza!

I felt overdressed in my jacket and pants! The idea of this restaurant being high end was my mistake. The feel, the food and inexperience of staff was evident within 10 minutes. Upon arrival we had to find our own table as there was no maître d and the gentleman who greeted us just pointed to our table in the corner. This was strange. Our waitress then forgot about us so we just sat there. We ordered some drinks, and then meals. After 1 hour our waitress told us there was a mistake with our entree garlic bread. Not sure how this happened. After 75 mins we got our garlic bread. The mains shortly after were fine but not what we are used too. Very expensive for what was presented to me - Veal Scallopini. Being from an Italian family our expectations are always high and we are enthusiastic to try different Italian restaurants. Unfortunately this restaurant felt very plain, customers dressed in shorts and hoodies and the staff with limited training and experience.

Really good service. The staff were observant in what you wanted and needed. I had pizza and hubby had the carbonara... was so good that he used my leftover pizza slice to mop up the creamy goodness of the sauce!!! Really recommend for a nice dinner in Hobart!

Our first visit to Solo Pasta - under the previous management - was an excellent experience. In summary, it was quality across the board. This visit for dinner showed that things have changed. Solo Pasta was busy as usual and the service was attentive and friendly. We experienced being served by multiple table staff which wasn't so much of an issue it itself, but it made for a somewhat disjointed dining experience. The menu is comprehensive and the serves are fairly substantial, so its not difficult to fill up quickly. So far as ordering, my wife and I selected our choices, only to be informed by one of the waiting staff some 10 minutes later that they were out of oysters. This seemed to be a pretty significant issue given there were three oyster based entrees on the menu, we were at an early sitting for dinner, and the ease of ensuring they had on hand what they offer on their menu (given how readily oysters are available from most supermarkets) indicated that meal planning was below par. This also affected the remainder of our order which, had we know at time of placing our order there were no oysters, we would have adjusted our other dishes accordingly. The other aspect that influences an "average" rating was that the marinara pasta with a cream based sauce came across as being pretty bland. It was far better on the last occasion we dined at Solo Pasta, so, not only has the management changed but also probably, the chef. In summary, you get a filling, average quality meal but it could have been a far better experience so keep your expectations modest.

A disappointment

The price was way too high for such a small meal. The size was different to what I’ve had there in the past. Even though the meal was tasty, the calzone pizza was like a pocket pizza and for the cost, it was not worth it. I do hope they improve on the portion sizes for the good money that customers pay! Not value for money on this occasion. The wait staff were nice and I hope they are valued for the work that they do!!
