Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant has a great outlook, it’s clean ad the service was quick. I had the smoked salmon and scallop pie and my wife had panko crumbed scallops. Well this is the bad bit. The pie was nothing short of disgusting. It was dry. Overcooked...slop. The Panko scallops were cooked beyond recognition and just as disgusting as the pie. We bit our lip, paid the bill and left. You should be ashamed of yourself Seagrass it was absolute rubbish.More

Overcooked the Tasmanian scallops in a panko crumb. So disappointing. My husbands fish and scallop pie was a very dried bowl of fish (couldn’t see a scallop) mornay type of dish. Equally disappointing. It’s located at a beautiful location. Shame about the food!

Very hard to make booking person obviously didn’t understand English. Repeated everything 3 times! Meal was lovely but to be charged $15 for gin and $4.50fir the soda to go in it was absolutely outrageous. So $15 for nip of gin who drinks a cap...full for $15😳 I nearly fell over $19.50 for gin and soda. Never go back sorry thank goodness only had 1 drink eachMore

A breakfast favourite. Tasty food and coffee. Gorgeous view over the Derwent. Dog friendly deck area (enter through back steps). Lunch and dinner options look delish. Note to self: try the prawn and scallop pate. A very chill place.

We came for breakfast. What a delightful place! The decor is lovely and the water views just beautiful. The staff were lovely and the food delicious. We can recommend the sourdough crumpets with bacon and maple mascarpone and the Seagrass breakfast burger. Plenty of parking...outside. Such a shame that we discovered this little gem on our last day in Tassie!More

Great food and views over the Derwent as we watched the Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race boats arrive at the final leg of their race. The service was terrific with staff accommodating us with enthusiasm. Just to clarify, although lovely, the place really isn't accessible for larger...wheelchairs as there are many stairs. However for me the staff were very helpful and they carried my lightweight 17kg chair up the stairs for me. I was able to transfer at the bottom of the stairs to the side-chair lift (prob max of a 100kg person) and ride to the top to rejoin my chair but not all would be able to do that. This restaurant would also be great for the elderly, cane and 4ww users. I enjoyed my time there but just bare in mind you would have to be able to take a few steps to transfer to the sidechair-lift. There were friendly staff more than happy to help if you let them know when you get there. Thanks for opening over the break, a lot were closed. I had the best chicken burger in town, it was well worth the visit!More

The most spectacular setting let down by very poor food. Fish was a little overcooked, batter was oily and the chips were way over cooked. Side salad was totally uninspiring. My friends fish and scallop pie was flattered with the word "scallop" on the menu....He could hardly taste any scallops and was very disappointed. The suggested price range of up to $27 on this site is way off the mark. I had hoped to bring some interstate visitors here next week, but now looking elsewhere. I think some of our restauranters need a week in Melbourne to study the food scene over there, because I am struggling to find anything half decent in Hobart these days.More

This restaurant has good food at a reasonable price, but I feel their drink prices are completely over the top. To pay more for a beer here than at top Hobart restaurants seems quite greedy to me. Interestingly, although their food menus are on their...web-site, I couldn't find their drinks prices prior to my visit..More

I've always loved the location and outlook from this upstairs restaurant on the beach at Lower Sandy Bay and once again we were not disappointed. It has a welcoming ambience and comfortably warm setting. Staff were friendly and helpful and very prompt with service. The...menu looked interesting but not particularly innovative or exciting. The wine list was limited but had a good choice of Tasmanian wines by the glass and reasonably priced. The disappointment came with the food, at least the main courses. The seafood chowder, titled somewhat pretentiously Manhatten Smoked Clam and Seafood Chowder was not a traditional potato and cream-based chowder, but a spiced tomato variation. It was difficult to detect the mix of flavours but certainly there was a hint of curry, garlic, chilli which gave it something of a 'twang'. It wasn't bad but I've had much, much better. I would recommend a return to the traditional style. There was ample seafood in the chowder although none of it was particularly flavoursome and seemed to lack freshness. Toasted sourdough was hard and virtually inedible. The fish and chips was a generous serving of I think boar fish with hand cut chips but was overcooked and also lacking freshness. Desserts - a Baked Ricotta & Blueberry Cheesecake and Peanut Butter Parfait were flavoursome certainly but again lacked freshness, likely coming out of the freezer for the occasion. This could be a fantastic restaurant if it lifted its game in terms of how food is handled and cooked. What we experienced was a tired operation trading on a likely dwindling reputation. A new, contemporary and adventurous menu delivering food cooked by a passionate and skilled chef would be a great move toward reclaiming this as the fine restaurant it has been in the past.More

This restaurant has a brilliant view of the Derwent River, great for enjoying boats of all kinds sailing past. Really enjoyed the breaded scallops and house made chunky fries with garden salad recently on 2 occasions! Served with a glass of local Tassie Sparkling wine...it made for a lovely lunch on a summer's day.More

Well known venue .. had its ups and downs. We found food better this visit. Chick Burger, scallops+chips and fritters all exc. View and coffee always good. Home made chips fabulous BUT there should be a choice for a small serve which most women would...chose rather than $3 surcharge.More

OK, maybe we just got an off day. But only 2 people out of 6 had a good meal. Firstly, I LOVE chowder. We got to the restaurant at 12.15 for lunch. The chowder was all gone!! WHAT!. So I chose another seafood, the scallops....Crumbed Tassy scallops. I couldn't tell if they were scallops or chicken pop corn. They were small, and cooked to within an inch of their tiny lives. Another person at the table ordered salt and pepper squid and it was over salted. Two ordered the crumbed corn patties and they were stodgy and slightly slimy textured, according to them. Not enjoyable at all. The hamburger did not get any complaints and the arancini balls got the thumbs up. They were a starter, but a good size for small eater. The deserts fared better than mains and all three ordered were a hit. The baked cheesecake, the citron tart and the peanut ice cream. So all the comments on the great seafood flaw me, but then we expect the best in TAS as seafood is our biggest draw card, if a restaurant cant get it right and/or don't even offer what is on the menu, then I am afraid it is a poor rating from me.More
