For a city that boasts a lot of Greeks and is known by some as the ‘Athens of the South’ Adelaide is not as well endowed with authentic Greek restaurants as it was in perhaps the city’s heydays of the 70s and 80s. Estia holding a prime position on Henley Square has been carrying the Greek flag for quite a number of years and still manages to uphold the high standards of Hellenic cuisine voted by some in the Internet industry as the ‘best in the world’. Estia is a busy place at most times of the week, but on weekends it buzzes. Yes, location helps but so does the food and in Estia’s case the impeccable and attentive service something sadly missing in a lot of restaurants in Adelaide’s extensive foody scene. Estia focuses on ‘mezédhes’ – similar to Spanish tapas but larger and expandable to mains - if that is your preference. There is a wide selection of mezédhes on offer and choosing can be daunting when so many flavours and options are involved. Mezédhes dining involves sharing so when ordering make sure you select items that everyone enjoys. There are meat, seafood and vegetarian options and all reflect the high quality and tastes expected of a mezés tavern in Greece. This reviewer and old Greece hand celebrated a wedding anniversary in the summery outdoor area of the restaurant. Preferable if you wish to avoid the noise within. We took ouzos on ice for starters plus a chilli dip called ‘htipití’ with pita and opted for a mezés combo of whitebait and grilled octopus. Beetroot salad filled in the ‘veggie’ side of our meal. Just eat the whitebait as it is – whole and straight into your mouth. Scrumptious! Octopus (expensive!) and not quite as Greek-grilled as you might expect but unquestionably succulent. The beetroot salad was a highlight. It all comes on a couscous based platter plus an accompanying dip of a potato-garlic-based skordhaliá. All ordered items came promptly and with no delay – a pleasant surprise on what by all accounts was a very busy Friday evening. We ordered Greek wine, but our request was misheard and our ‘Malagouziá’ ($48.00) preference was misinterpreted for a Santorini-produced Sigálas white ($60.00) adding a further $12.00 to the bill. There are shelves full of fine Australian options if you prefer. A tip: order the Malamatína retsina (A taste to get used to!) and soften it up with dashes of soda water (my usual preference and a lot cheaper). In short perhaps one of Adelaide’s finer Greek restaurants and the locale certainly helps. It’s not cheap though ($182.00 for two persons) so perhaps come on those special occasions – like wedding anniversaries or birthdays. Estia – meaning ‘hearth’ in Greek is certainly cosy is certainly as cosy as one and ticks almost all the boxes. Kalí órexi!

From the minute we set foot in the door we felt welcome. Drinks came quickly and then so did the food. A beautifully fresh Greek salad was complementary. The Lima beans with celery and tomato was wonderful comfort food. The collimation was cooked just right. The SA king prawns were perfect. The menu hasn't changed for years and they can bring it out to a high standard even with 400 covers in a night - and deliver with personal engagement and warmth.

Seven of us attended for a work dinner on a busy Friday night. I went with high expectations based on recommendations and reviews. I was not disappointed. The whole experience was magnificent from the initial booking to paying the bill. The staff were extremely obliging and friendly including moving us from an inside table to an outside table as it was perfect alfresco weather. We all enjoyed the Mezze Banquet at $59 per head and all dishes were outstanding. Could not fault this experience. Highly recommend.

So, we had a meal for ten of us, which was family and some overseas visitors. On making the reservation we were advised that the banquet is highly recommended, but the full menu would be available. As we have a range of dietary requirements, (GF, Vego, no-fish), that was important to us, so it was good that the full menu was available. However, on the actual night, once everyone had arrived and was seated, we were then told we needed to choose the banquet option. After stating we wanted the full menu, the restaurant management then insisted they could only compromise by us having two made-up platters. This became a long-winded, shambolic affair, trying to balance each platter, and all the various dietary requirements. To make matters worse, the bill was slightly more than the banquet price, and at the end of the day we did not get to choose our preferred dishes from the menu. Everyone was pretty disgusted by the attitude of the restaurant. The place was packed with all other tables ordering what they wanted but obviously the management knew they had a captive market and where else would we a get a table for ten, especially with everyone settled and having ordered drinks. Diabolical way to run a restaurant. Won't be coming back.

The filling of the dolmathes tasted disgusting and the leaf rapping was tough and not eatable. I’ve had better dolmathes out of a can. The briami tasted like it was old and reheated, I wasn’t there to have a tv dinner. We were told to arrive early at 5:30 as the table was needed at 7:30, lies as the restaurant was pretty much empty at 7:30.

Wow, some venom there! I’ll start by saying not everyone likes all the dishes…that’s normal. I wish you’d have enjoyed our vegan options, lots of others do. And yes….the restaurant is emptying out at 730 pm as the second sitting starts at 8 pm on Saturday night ( I assume this is when you came). This is normal….. Saying we lied is not normal Regards.

From the booking over the phone to the moment we left the service was on point. It didn't matter who came to the table they were all engaging and extremely helpful. The setting was perfect outside for us and our two dogs who were treated to water straight away. Our waiter assisted to choose the perfect amount of dishes which were all lovely especially the lamb. I highly recommend the Negroni too. This is a must do dining experience when you're in the Henley area.

We came here as a family and it was super busy! We were worried things were going to take a while but everything arrived promptly. The drinks were delicious and we were well looked after by more than 4 different people. We were asked if we were ok/more deinks/everything ok etc multiple times. It's good to feel looked after. We ordered the kids meatballs which was not put through so ended up coming a while after we had our adult meals but our waiter came over to tell us this and didn't charge us for it. The food was so good, we don't have many Greek restaurants where I'm from so it was all so fascinating! A great experience overall 🥰🥰

Not only was the food delicious but we had the best waiter in the WORLD serving us. Taco, you made our dining experience so enjoyable, your knowledge, attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel like you had personally invited us to your home for dinner. The restaurant was overflowing with patrons but the food was impeccable, delivered hot and efficiently. Every restaurant needs staff like our wonderful waiter Taco. We asked the kids what was one of their most memorable moments in Adelaide, and they said Estia restaurant with Taco. And to top it off, our night ended with the best EVER Honey Puffs we have ever tasted. Thank you for such a wonderful experience Estia restaurant.

We love coming to Estia because the food is always delicious and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. There’s also nothing better than eating your meal while watching the sunset over Henley Square. You have to order the lamb, prawn saganaki and the grilled octopus. Absolutely delicious!

Fantastic meals which were enjoyed by everyone attending. Unfortunately the restaurant is only allowing seating for an hour duration at a time, however at no point was this advised to us when either the booking made or upon arrival. An hour and half into our meal we were approached by the waitress whom quite rudely threw the bill on our table, and told we needed to organise payment as we had overstayed our allowed time.

This was truthfully one of the best lunches I have ever had. We went here to celebrate my birthday and we had a vegan, two pescatarians and a gluten intolerant in our party. Even though we got the banquet, they were able to accommodate everyone in our party, and not one single guest missed out even slightly. The service was also wonderful and attentive. This was our first time to Estia and it will definitely not be our last. Everyone loved it 😊

Estia has established a reputation for great Greek food, great wine ,great service & a vibrant atmosphere at a reasonable price in a fantastic location. Every time we visit we comment as we leave. "As great as always." Each time we introduce our guests they echo our comments. Our expectations are always not only met, but exceeded. WE are not relatives but it could be considered. if invited. Amazing food and service each time we visit. Love the saganaki cheese. We often come here with our daughter and staff are always accomodating and seat us somewhere a high chair won’t be in the way. The best Greek food.

Arriving at 6pm we thought no one would be in the restaurant, after all it was a Wednesday night. Not so! My 89yr old Mum and I got there early thinking we would have the place to ourselves. Now we know why we didn’t. The service was first class and the meal was amazing. Catering for every age group and food desires - our meals were perfect in every way. So delicious, the seafood was cooked to perfection and although we were full after scallops and king George whiting. We went back for an affogato. Thank you to everyone at Estia

Our family have been coming here for over 20 years! Food is always consistently beautiful and generous. The location is wonderful… Greek food by the sea, what more could you ask for? Over the years we have tried almost every dish on the menu, and everything is full of flavour and cooked to perfection - every time we venture to the restaurant. If you’ve never tried this restaurant , jump on board the traditional Greek food, with family and friends... and enjoy! We recently visited on the weekend and everything was up to standard, we love the big Greek salad, dips (skordalia yumm!! ) with warm pita , kolokithi; zucchini croquettes, mousaka .. and saganaki fried cheese with lemon/olive oil, is out of this world. My family also love the chargrilled chicken with olive oil/ oregano, and various seafood dishes. Please leave room for the in-house deserts, we are in love with the loukoumathes; Greek honey puffs with syrup and cinnamon, OMG they are so good. This Restaurant is a real winner with our family. We often celebrate birthdays in this restaurant. Great wine list, or BYO. We will always keep coming back for the best Greek feast!
