The strength of the place was the quality of the food. It was recommended by a couple of regular diners and we could see why. We had lamb and kingfish between four - the main courses are very generous and the establishment encourages the sharing of plates, somewhat similar to the way food is served in Asian restaurants. The mains looked exxy on the card but once you shared the plates (there was plenty) it was $50 per head and that included a glass of wine each. The young woman who served us was efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and didn't ask annoying questions like 'have you had good day' or say things like 'sweet' and 'too easy'. She was attentive enough without being intrusive - a hard balance to get right. The physical ambience was pleasant. The place was packed but the table spacing with sufficient that you could hear each other talk

As I live a short walk from this restaurant and was keen to have another wonderful local to have a meal out. I have now been 3 times in the past month and will be back soon! The menu is interesting sort of a middle east theme but not soley. The food is fresh, great flavours and textures, looks gorgeous and tastes which linger for ages around your mouth. The serves are generous with 3 size options so get advise from the great staff on what might suit your appetite. Staff are well informed, friendly and helpful and each time I have been there the place is full. Great options on the menu for vegos. So I'm not the only person enjoying the food and vibe.

My first visit to this restaurant, invited by a kind friend who had heard good things about this restaurant. It has been open for around 18 months under the current team. A quite setting in Halifax Street, outdoor and inside seating provide good options.
The menu has quite a range of interesting creations, we decided to share and started with a Kingfish Sashimi, the a very light pork terrine and finished with a very well cooked gnocchi main.
There is a varied wine list, with some fine locals and a few overseas wines, good options by the glass.
Not expensive.
Good cooking and attentive service, I look forward to a return visit.

First time dining here and perhaps we didn’t listen to the advice given by the waiter when we first sat down at table. Smallish menu made it difficult to identify food types we would be happy to share. We opted for two main plates which came as an overwhelming portion of meat/poultry. Sauce on lamb dish was far too rich with out side orders and both too big for one person. Quality of food was okay but we were already put off. Perhaps the waiter could have made alternative suggestions/recommendations at point of order because we clearly missed the concept of the restaurant. Hopefully we can go back at some point and try again.

OMG...food was amazing. Wen't here for mine and my husbands birthday in December, group of 5 and we did the tasting menu. Can't fault any of the meals, everything was absolutely delicious. We made a very late booking on the day and seating inside was not available. Lucky enough when we arrived we were accommodated a table inside cause weather was a little on the cool side. We never felt rushed to have to give up our table by a certain time. Every course was full of flavour, even 2 guests who don't eat seafood tried the scallops and would have happily had them again, it was like gnocchi, just simply melted in the mouth. Only down side, we were way to full to enjoy our last course. Highly recommend! Definitely be back.

A must book restaurant. Greeting was pleasant and efficient drinks before meal were enjoyable followed by a curated set menu including as mentioned lamb shanks to die for. Service friendly and prompt, vibes trendy but also warm, plenty of music and atmosphere. Highly recommended for either couples or groups. Lots of food options EG vegetarian, lactose, gluten intolerance. Good selection of wines and beverages. All together a very enjoyable evening, hosted by three great guys. Warwick and Maria

What a team! Seasonal flavours and freshness are king at Herringbone where a passionate, vivacious team bring together an excellent dining experience. Attentive staff bring a joie de vivre and an ease to the way the magic of this kitchen comes to life on the plate. Wine list was perfectly curated. Congratulations all - you’re doing Adelaide proud! Keep doing what you’re doing - it’s working! We’ll always be back on our regular Adelaide visits.

Eating from the set menu, I was very impressed with every dish that made its way to our table. The flavours were bold but balanced, presentation was excellent, and there was enough food to feed a small army. They clearly put a lot of thought into the menu and I love the emphasis on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The wine list was similarly fantastic. Service was topnotch (Paul clearly runs a tight ship) and the setting is trendy but cosy. My only (very minor) suggestion is to use cloth napkins rather than paper, as it would be more in keeping with the superb food, wine, and service.
Highly recommended and I can't wait to return.

We have been to Herringbone twice now. It is ‘nice’. Both times it has been noisy, but at different levels of ‘noisy’. The first time we couldn’t hear ourselves think due to a massive group in the back, which was unfortunate as it was a special occasion for our smaller group. So if noise concerns you, it might be worth calling the day before to check they aren’t hosting large groups! For our more recent visit it was a ‘quite loud hum’. It was not a huge deal, but the volume was pretty high due to a 100% full restaurant and tables being close to each other. Well done to them for a full house on a Wednesday night though!!
We weren’t that excited about being seated right on top of the main entry door, but being near the front probably did mean it wasn’t as loud as other parts of the room, thankfully.
So now to food: Again, ‘nice’. We left feeling ‘satisfactorily fed’ but there was nothing on the menu that set it aside from other modern/contemporary Australian menus that we would bother to describe in detail, or rush back back for, except perhaps the trout crostini snacks. They were actually really good and feta and pickle were the perfect accompaniments.
They work on what is now the stock standard format of ‘small and large dish options designed for sharing’ and they seem to be fairly ‘no fuss’ dishes to simplify things for the kitchen but still at a ‘high-ish’ price. Nothing particularly complicated. If you don’t want to share then you will have your work cut out getting through one of the larger dishes on your own!! Maybe they could consider offering those ‘main’ dishes as ‘for one’ or ‘to share’ at different sizes and prices?
We thought it seemed a little unimaginative to have ocean trout as the key ingredient of one of the small dishes as well as one of the snacks.
Anyway, it is nice.

This restaurant continually impresses us with the array of interesting dishes and outstanding service. They create tasty morsels to stir the appetite and then produce substantial dishes that can be shared for variety along with side dishes that complement the food. We love the fact that the team recognise us and are always welcoming to our guests and friends.

We were a group of six, there to mark the special birthday of one of our number. From the friendly and unpretentious attentions of the staff, through the splendid wines, and the exquisite and delicate combinations of ingredients, flavours and textures, the experience was superb. Spicy gazpacho served in a small cup with the delightful surprise of smoked trout fragments; scallops resting on their god-given tiny plates; hommous as I've never seen it before, wreathed in plump currants and other textures, and gnocchi resembling little soft clouds. It was rather lovely to see the kitchen area and have some of the dishes brought out by the chef. this place is wonderful. Thank you!

Such delicious food. Everything we were served, we loved. A group of 17 celebrating a significant birthday. I saw a sample menu and the current Kitchen Menu, emailed and spoke to Paul a few times, advised dietary restrictions, and left everything to him.
The food was outstanding - flavours, textures, quality of ingredients, all wonderful. Good wine choices. Lovely, attentive, efficient staff. Nice setting under the tree. Absolutely recommended. Impossible to think any one could give this restaurant a bad review, don't believe them for a second!

Exceptional service on arrival, being seated and also telephone manner.
Delicious, tasty and fresh food.
Can recommend the lamb, hand cut chops and greens. Did also want to they the chicken but was full.
Emma was well mannered, engaging and responsible… meaning she knew her cliental.
Several different table spacing for the resultant including outdoor, servers difference configurations of dining tables inside including round (always the best for group conversations), and I also liked the private dining room. Private, the door was glass floor to sealing, we didn’t hear any noise in the main dining area.
Recommend - highly
Staff - well mannered, efficient and polite
Food - tastefully presented, fresh and full of flavour.
Clever wine menu too.

We recently dined at Herringbone for our Xmas Staff show. It was hard to agree on a restaurant as we are all catering staff and chefs. Our chefs said it was the best food they had ever eaten. They are still talking about it! We started with whipped cod roe which was out of this world. Scallops with nduja which were creamy and beautiful. Shared entrees of cured ocean trout and house made hommus with garlic focaccia blew our minds. We were treated to all 3 mains; lamb shoulder that fell apart, gorgeous chook and the best gnocchi we all agree we have ever eaten. Sides included crispy potatoes an iceberg salad which was the most refreshing and delicious salad ever, no one could figure out what was in it. Creme brûlée tart to finish was next level. Service was exceptional, staff knew everything about the food and talked us through the whole experience. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.
