Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food looked lovely and arty but very expensive for what you can get elsewhere on the Gold Coast. Tables and chairs were basic and very uncomfortable.

Slowest service on earth. The waiter George was lovely but the organisation here is seriously bad. Really gutted as had high expectations.

Wowsers, this place is yummy. Lots to choose from on the menu with 4 different Omakase (set menu) options, as well as an extensive a la carte menu. Great drinks list too. The staff were super attentive, knowledgeable and all round delightful. Good vibe, and...open kitchens to watchMore

One of the better meals I’ve had. We did the preset menu and food arrived regularly at decent intervals. The lamb was perhaps better done than I like it but service truly top notch, wide rage of food. I didn’t go fit the tooth fish...for other reasons thoughMore

Food arrived for each person at different intervals, by the time my food arrived my son had eaten and my husband’s was cold. Food was average and overpriced, disappointed as other reviews were great, we must have caught them on a bad night!

Best Japanese fine dining in Gold Coast. Every time we visit GC, we have dinner at Yamagen and have never been disappointed. We have enjoyed their omakase menus, many to choose from, very reasonably priced and every dish superbly presented and absolutely delicious. The restaurant...has a lovely ambience and the service is fantastic. We will definitely be back.More

Yes, I understand that going to a restaurant on a Saturday evening will inevitably mean it’s a little busy… but our overall dining experience was chaotic. Food and drink service was not well orchestrated, with odd arrival patterns. While there were lots of wait staff,...it was very hard to get anyone to actually help you. There seemed to be a large number of staff who were prompt to clear your plates, but unable to help. Kept being told someone would be sent over and over again. Yakitori skewers were the solitary highlight of the food. Other food had some lovely elements and were presented immaculately, but are far removed from traditional Japanese tastes, and in some cases weirdly experimental. Needless to say wouldn’t return, and wouldn’t recommend.More

Food is simply sublime great atmosphere absolutely the best Japanese Resturant on the Gold Coast. Hard to find any fault with the food. Lots of new staff who were not as helpful as they could have been for the price paid-it is so crazy that...the food is that good you can see past thatMore

Wow!!! This was one of my favourite and best dinners I have ever ever had! The staff were so accommodating and really met my high expectations that I have when I visit any restaurant. My favourite meal was the raw snapper with truffle, this made...my tastebuds explode with flavour and the snapper was perfectly cooked. I would most definitely visit yamagen again and I recommend you give it a try! Thanks 😊More

We are staying in the QT tonight and just had dinner at Yamagen. It was delicious! We did the $90 menu and weren’t disappointed. The freshest produce, the tastiest flavours and exceptional service. You would have to email them to ask. But I recall seeing some vegetarian options with the salad, grilled haolumi cheese, edamame etc...
