Tried to book in person at Watergate on Sunday evening for Monday, only go be told by the girl outside that this could only be done via a manager and that they were all busy. Fine, but it turns out that it’s now closed for...a 2 week refurb - why not just tell us that? Shame because we have previously enjoyed it.More

We were recommended to visit the Watergate by our snorkelling tour guides. The restaurant is atmospheric and gives off a rainforest vibe. We went for the kangaroo loin which was served with a beetroot, spinach and ricotta filo, seasonal vegetables and a beetroot relish and...cabernet jus. This dish was very tasty and a great way to try a local delicacy as we’ve never had kangaroo meat before. We also tried the yellow fin tuna served with a coconut arancini and yellow curry sauce which was really well cooked. The only downside was that the service was quite slow and we had to wait a long time for our bill.More

Woeful from the start. Worst service I've experienced. After waiting at our table for 45 mins without so much as a drink, we chose to cancel our order for the bottle of wine as there was no longer any point. Ordered a cocktail which we...received 15 mins later. Cocktail was the highlight of the evening. Shared an entree of lack lustre scallops that were small in size and poorly seared, followed by severely over cooked duck breast and the most lumpy mash I have ever experienced . Chose not to stay any longer as the smokey environment was unpleasant. Overpriced for such poor service and food. There are plenty of amazing restaurants in Port Douglas, save your $$ and go elsewhere.More

Saturday night dinner. Lovely setting. We had a nice pre dinner cocktail before going to our table. Service was relaxed and friendly. Varied menu and the food was delicious and prepared to a high standard. We ate at a lot of good restaurants in Port...Douglas but this was by far the best.More

Lovely Ambient Restaurant We enjoyed lovely seafood dishes. All the staff were friendly and attentive. Our waiter, Francesco, made a wonderful wine suggestion. Definitely arrive and enjoy a pre dinner cocktail at the bar.

Where to start… ambience, it’s a big tick. Set amongst rainforest just off the Main Street of Port. Our prior reservation at another establishment had failed to turn up and open their doors so we went to Watergate where we had booked for the following...evening. David had no issue in transferring our reservation from the following night and we were seated with a minimum of fuss. Francesco, our wait staff, was exceptional. A qualified sommelier with a knowledge and passion for food wine and service, he made us feel welcome and was a wonderful ambassador for this establishment. The food is EXQUISITE (note eye fillet and golden snapper), is reasonably priced and is served in a timely manner. David runs a tight ship and the expectations are high and the standard of delivery by all is higher. Watergate is a MUST; for quality, standard, price and atmosphereMore

Loved everything about this place. Started with pre dinner drinks and then moved to our table. The ambience is outstanding. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. The scallops entree was just exquisite and just marginally outshone our main courses. This is a...really special place not to be missed when in Port Douglas.More

We had such a wonderful evening, all the staff we're really attentive especially as it was out 10 year wedding anniversary, and we received a glass of bubbles so it was a great start. Food was delicious, especially the scallops, and both main course fish...dishes were gorgeous with so much flavour. The setting is perfect for a romantic evening.More

Lovely spot surrounded by greenery. Service and food were both good. We had the prawn hotpot, duck pancakes, scallops, fish of the day, eye fillet and kangaroo. Steak was overcooked (unusual for a chef). The lighting is too dark - hard to read the menu...or see what you're eating. Overall was a nice night out.More

Wow! Have not used Trip Advisor for several years, but tonight’s dinner was stunning and definitely worth writing about. We ordered both fish dishes, the market fish (golden snapper) and the Sesame crusted snapper and then shared. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and the balance...and flavours were amazing and we washed it down with a light bottle of bubbles. This was our last night in Port Douglas and we had saved the best to last. The service by David, our waiter, was also really good. We will be back. Many thanks.More

An atmospheric bar and dining area, lovely toned-down lighting and hidden in the tropical greenery. The ferns in hanging baskets was a nice touch. Wife described her drinks as best cocktails in Port Douglas. I choose a bottle of Tarrawarra merlot from their extensive wine...list. Starters of scallops and pork belly were shared and despite being a scallop fan, I gave the points to the pork belly. Mains were kangaroo steak on a filo and eye fillet, plus a serving of vegetable greens. Points to the eye fillet and accompiments - delicious. Desserts finished up with flourless chocolate cake and lime cheesecake and damn fine finishes they were! Our waitress and the manager made us feel welcome and answered all questions knowledgeably. Watergate feels like a hit of relaxed fine dining in a lovely atmospheric garden. After eating you are free to chill in the drinks lounge and have an aperitif or two.More

The man/manager who took us to our table was very professional and warming and set a great feeling for the night. The pork belly entree was very tasty however on the dry side. The coconut arancini were very tasty and different in flavour however needed...more sauce. The eye fillet was exquisite and cooked to perfection. The chicken with risotto flavours were great and worked well however the chicken was dry. The ambience and setting was beautiful and felt very romantic would go again.More
