I ordered a gluten free cake for my husbands birthday, expecting something outstanding for the $85 price. We cut the cake and put slices onto plates when noticing the cake had not been cooked properly. Having been diagnosed with celiac disease 18 years ago, I...have eaten my fair share of gluten free cakes and also made them. When a cake is uncooked (which can easily happen when baking with gluten free flour), it’s glaringly obvious in the texture, look and taste of the cake. I emailed the owner and received no response. I then took the cake into the shop to show the manager 3 days later when they re-opened for the week. She argued with me about the cake, wouldn’t look at it, and called the owner to say “that lady who sent the email is here”. I found their dismissive attitude extremely rude. I later received a response to my email from the owner (3 days after my initial email) to say that everyone is entitled to like own taste and I mustn’t like “caramel mud”. If caramel mud is uncooked cookie dough, I guess there wouldn’t be many people with a taste for that. I would urge any person wanting a gluten free cake to go elsewhere. Coles is close by, and at 1/8 of the cost of a Hummingbird cake you have an edible alternative that won’t be money thrown in the bin.More

Ordered a cake for my dads 50th. When I walked into the store, the woman was on her phone and told me she needed to finish her ‘super important’ text before she could talk to me (I thought being a paying customer was super important)....I should of walked out at this point, however I waited in the shop for 5 minutes doing nothing much at all. Eventually she was ready and I went to go and talk to her about cake designs and sizes. We agreed on a size that was going to be $75 with a whitewash buttercream icing. I wanted to talk to her about decorating the cake but it was all too hard. She said I would have to call her daughter who decorated the cakes. I said I would find someone who can sort out both things at the same time. She panicked she would lose the sale and decided all of a sudden that she could actually talk about the design with me and she would just relay this to her daughter afterwards. Why she couldn’t do this before, I don’t know. Had to pay an extra $5 for gold dust. Making it an $80 cake. Come party day and we cut up the cake and handed it out to everyone. It was the driest most tasteless cake I’ve ever had. Would of been better getting a $4 cake from coles and putting nice icing on it.More

I ordered a 50th birthday cake from the Port Douglas store. Someone else collected it for me. When it arrived, the "fresh" flowers decorating the cake were half dead and the 50 cake topper was nowhere to be seen. I contacted Anthea who said she...would deliver fresh flowers and the cake topper that afternoon. She never came. When I followed up in the morning she said she was "swamped" and offered me a $20 refund off the $70 cake. Sadly, by then, the 50th birthday celebrations had been and gone and all we had to photograph was a plain cake. Super disappointed. Would never use again given they didn't deliver what was ordered and then didn't take the opportunity to make things properly right.More

Delicious handmade cakes, slices and treats. The Vanilla slices are heaven – bit expensive $6.50 each but what a treat (and they are quite large slices!)

Sweet little place with homemade cakes and slices. I had the vanilla slice which was lovely, a little pricey but I didn’t mind as a treat.

Ordered a cake through Anthea and her team for my wife’s 40th birthday. Turned out exactly as we had discussed. The process was so easy and the cake tasted beautiful. Highly recommended!!

sooooo......ordered a cake from their Smithfield store for our gender reveal, and while the cake was tasty we could clearly see the colour of the cake through the bottom half of the icing partucularly in the centre area, around the whole cake. pretty devastating to...have the surprise ruined like that before we even got to our celebration. It is kind of hard to see in the picture exactly what colour is underneath, but as shown you can clearly see where the colour difference is visible , and believe me in person it was much more clear and obvious. on top of that, decorations (fresh fruit) werent bad per se but nothing really suggestive of a proffessional job. my partner and i are both chefs, so literally the only reason to pay $120 for something we could do ourselves was because it was meant to be a surprise for us that we were really looking forward to . so yeah kind of ruined the day a bit to say the least unfortunately!More

Love the French vanilla slice!! It reminds me of the cake windows in Acland st St.Kilda Melb. It is a slice that you eat at home as it can end up all over your face & chin hahaha Really nice to have a nice cake...shop locally to be able to order a wedding or birthday cake for special occasions. I haven't tried all the other slices yet but l will over time as they all look so nice and the smell coming from the shop is very tempting not to try something :0) Well done Humming Bird your a winner with our family.More

Thanks so much for saving our wedding at the last moment with a cake after our original bakery of choice let us down. Everyone was helpful and the cake was beautiful. One star less because the cake was not enjoyed by all at the reception...but you can’t please everyone!More
