The tail end of a cyclone had accompanied us as we drove nervously to what turned out to be a delightful dinner. Upstairs at Vivaldis we passed a few happy souls enjoying cocktails at the bar on the open mezzanine overlooking the hotel reception below....This gave the restaurant an airy feel to the very attractive dining room. We were taken to a table for two with a view of the turmoil and lightening display outside and were provided with large glasses of wine and crisp cheezy bread to enjoy the meteorologic show whilst choosing from a tempting menu. The food surpassed our expectations, my husband is a very fussy eater and declared his belly pork 'melt-in-the-mouth' and 'astonishing' and my generously sized fillet steak was properly 'rare' as ordered and flavoursome. My smashed baked potatoes were an added treat. I ordered Crème Brulee, mainly for the drama of the dish, but should have listened to hubby who ordered the apple crumble which he polished off with great relish and said he would recommend to anyone. The only disappointment was that because of the inclement weather we were unable to dine on their sweeping balcony.More
