This is a great spot overlooking the Coral Sea and park, I always prefer to sit outside soaking in the atmosphere and ambience of the local surroundings, the food has always been good it's not 5 star but you don't expect that at an RSL but it's pretty good.
I eat out a lot and I found pricing here was good for what you get, staff have always been helpful, it can get very busy being right on the Esplanade so get here early or book ahead.
Do your self a favour and call in for breakfast its good.

For a quick lunch with pleasant outlook over the Cairns Esplanade, the RSL is a popular dining venue, Menu selection for lunch has several inexpensive choices, including roast of the day, cheese and cold cuts platter as well as usual schnitzels, grills and fish. Service is pleasant, efficient and friendly. Covid rules are adhered to (loved the checking app, was included), Good choice for quick lunch,

We ate early on a Sunday evening. We hadn’t booked but were seated outside which was very pleasant: sea breezes and not too noisy, and a great spot for people watching. There were lots of people in the dining area so we expected to be waiting some time for our meals but they arrived fairly quickly. The fish was moist and the chips were good.

How can a positition be so poorly utilised
Was there Friday night 27/12/19 for dinner
Menu prices are about right for fine dining,but fine dining its not!
Had a $29 plus meall that included a piece of inedible steak about 75 grams 1/2 a tomatoe a piece of bacon and a chipolata sausage.would have made a good $10.00 breakfast at a greasy spoon place
No wonder such a poor crowd.Questions 1 do management try the food 2.Does anybody care 3.Do the RSL look at results of people managing these establishments

Entry to this venue was really difficult. The Reception is also a cafe making coffees and selling snacks. Arriving at a busy time for dinner we were pretty much left to wait while the takeaways were made along with lots of other people. Make up your mind guys. Either you want to welcome people and make them feel comfortable or you want to sell takeaway. You can’t do both when the staff are making coffees.

The meals are huge enough for two people, on Thursday night have a special crumbed steak with chips slaw and salad, It was great and a good feed. Roast is great value and drinks are well priced. Definitely go there.

Both had an excellent meal and value for money.
I had roast lamb gravy and heaps of veggies . Choice of 2 roasts offered each day I was told. Husband had 350gram rump cooked perfect medium rare ,tender and lovely cut of meat with tasty pepper gravy . Friendly responsive staff. Club situated on esplanade in a great spot and noticed parking was available at back .

We have eaten here twice now in 6 days and the food has been pretty good , the menu has a great selection and the meals tasty .
We ate as a family, 2 adults and 2 kids, my kids both had pizza 🍕 and I had the mackerel and chips .
The mackerel was fresh and the batter was crispy.
The only negative thing is as far as value for money I don’t believe it’s that great as the meal prices for some dishes are more expensive than some of the waterfront restaurants on the esplanade .

Am regular at RSL however last night went for dinner with family.
They misjudged how many people would be there and literally ran out of roast dinner meals.
I had Barra it sounded nice, for the price I received a small piece of fish dumped on top of leftover roast cauliflower, pancetta was bacon overcooked and salad was dry.

We were able to book a table the afternoon of our dinner and extremely glad to have dined at the RSL. We all had great meals and my steak was among the best I have had in a long time.
The staff were friendly and engaging and I would highly recommend enjoying a meal here on your stay in Cairns. Google their contact number and reserve a table as it is a busy venue - you don't need to be a member of the RSL to dine.

We walked into Cairns RSL Club during the early evening without a booking on Labor Day 02/05/22 & luckily we were given a table.
Good selection from the menu planner & after ordering our meals were served within 20 min's. Busy atmosphere & our first visit to the Club.
Meal prices were reasonable & generous portion size

My experience was not good as I had a tried to get a vegan meal and was very disappointed. I asked to get a mixture of 2 pizza as there was no vegan option. That did not seem possible to the waitress. So I had the vegetarian with mushrooms and Spanish onion with no cheese. What came out was a plain slab flat bread with no base and boiled pumpkin, spinach, raw mushroom and a sprinkle of onion and pine nuts. Very disappointed after a long day on the train and extremely hungry..

We use thin pizza bases for all our pizzas! Unfortunately, we don't many vegan options and we don't have vegan cheese!
We trust the staff member taking your order would have informed you of other options that would be suited to you! We hope you give us another go, please let one of our managers know if your meal isn't up to scratch so we can offer you a replacement so you don't leave hungry!!

My mate and I came in for dinner as the place had a decent menu and reasonably priced.
We ordered:
1 Chef Special Bruschetta
1 Chef Special Schnitty
1 Chili/Lime Linguine
One hour twenty-six minutes with ZERO interaction with any staff until I engaged - where is our food? They were more than happy to serve every table in the place before us, too, even after we raised the issue. How hard is bruschetta to make?!?!
While they did give us a full refund, how hard is it to have a manager come out and give us an apology, an update, a free round of beverages!? 1 round of drinks was $25, instead of the $81 they returned! Really poor experience!! Will not be returning.

Pleasant place to eat outdoors at the quiet end of Cairns esplanade. Our meals were disappointing. Steaks ordered medium rare were horribly overcooked and dry, dumped on top of chips making the chips very soggy.

COVID restrictions seem to be bringing out the best in club/bistros around Queensland. The Cairns RSL was no different with great table service for your food and drinks. The meals were was excellent and the location looking out of the esplanade and water is great. Not fine dining but no complaints from me. One to come back to in Cairns.
