Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely spot for lunch. The staff were so helpful even making sure we had a table with a great view of the water. We both had the salt & pepper squid, which was so tender and not too spicy. Large servings, great flavour along with...the breweries own super beers. Will definitely go back when next in Cairns.More

I'm a local in Cairns and been to this venue many of times. Even tho the food is very poor and they chamge their workers like I change T-Shirts generally the beers and views are the ONLY reason me and I friends choose to go....Just last week yet another disappointing 3rd attempt at giving their food another go well the finger food anyway. We ordered a serve of sticky wings for table 1, we waited a good 30 minutes befo my friend went up and asked about the wait it was busy at all maybe 20 people in the venue and they said they served our food to table 9 10 minutes ago.... The only response was we can make it again not thinking to themselves they more then likely paid to part and the ticket would of well expired. Again reached out to the venue and like the other times managers have ZERO care factor. Hemmingways you guys suck no wonder most locals choose else where 1/10. Just wanted to write a public post so if this stops one person from going their I feel like it was worth the 5 minutes this took to write unlike your 20 minutes to deep fry some chicken from Coles. You guys suck :). Thanks.More

I've hosted two social events in February at Hemingway's and both events have run smoothly, with the food boards getting a special mention of recommendation. I had good feedback from the people attending as well as its in the CBD, parking (albeit paid) just outside...and big open space inside. We will go back and I'd recommend to others who work in the CBD this venue as a place for a social catch up with colleagues.More

My wife and I adopted this brewery as our "local" during a short stay in Cairns. It's built in a historic wharf shed and has a very open feel. When the weather is right and there's no cruise ship in town they open some of...the doors facing the Trinity Inlet for a nice breeze. They have a lot of their original beer on tap and it's cold and tasty. The staff is very friendly as well. We're returning to Cairns in a week and will stop in again before leaving for another city..you should too!More

Average beers but good food and atmosphere put this one in must visit if you are in the area. Good sized portions and nice views out the large sliding doors make it a pleasant experience for a group of any size.

Nice atmosphere, can get very hot inside, muggy if you want to sit inside, only ceiling fans. The establishment closes at 2200 hrs. Food, well, its not what one would expect, remember its a brewery not a restaurant, pub meals, its enough to satisfy ones...hunger when enjoying a drink or two. Price $ on meals, well I'll leave that up to you to decide? Staff very friendly, very helpful re enquiries. Establishment does take bookings for functions, I didn't really take notice kids to be entertainment, not saying there wasn't, I never to any notice. One can walk outside on the wharf, very nice at night time.More

Hemingway’s is huge, so we had an expectation of ‘so-so’ food and service that caters for the masses. Not so thankfully!! The only irritation was that we’d made a reservation yet on arrival there was no indication of where to go to ‘claim’ your table....There was no one ‘at the front’ at the entrance and staff were quite busied dashing about looking after people but not welcoming any new arrivals through the door. It seemed a bit like reservations were just superfluous!! As we were just after something quick and easy to share, it was a simple chilli prawn pizza on plus fish tacos between two …and both delivered quite suitable spice actually considering the aforementioned ‘feed the masses expectation’. This brew pub provided the true ultra casual, but still quality, Aussie laid back meal we were seeking in the heat of Cairns! It’s a nicer location than being in the main strip which is full of establishments just screaming ‘cheap and nasty tourism’. ‘Ultra casual’ doesn’t have to be shabby as Hemingway’s demonstrates well. It’s a fun spot - and we’d return if back in Cairns!More

Large open air brewery with a limited menu and no table service. Food service also seemed a bit random as our appetizers did not come out at once - nor did our mains (5-10 minute difference in appetizers and ~15 minutes difference for our mains)

Overpriced pretentious slop. The Vine Room is SO much nicer at the other end of town! They often have work boats - trawlers with diesel engines running - filling the whole place up with exhaust fumes and negating the view -lined up and down the...dock. Who can eat while being gassed? Locals miss Blue Sky Brewery like hell.More

Really struggling with this review. For a drinks only bar perspective it's probably a 4; good, friendly staff. From a food perspective this is probably the worst experience I've had in 5 weeks in Australia. The fish tacos were pretty good, and a decent size....The chicken popcorn nachos were ok, albeit a ton of nachos to the quantity of topping/filling; add some grated cheese or salsa or something so it's not a big platter full of dry nachos? The fish and chips were bad. Reminiscent of school dinners bad; soggy fish in a dense batter that's smooth all over the outside like a giant glossy cocoon holding in all the grease. Served with pretty good fries, and tartare sauce which is inexplicably clove flavoured. The service was great at the bar, terrible to the table. Waitress didn't bring cutlery (checked at ordering if we had to take our own, was assured we'd be brought "cutlery, napkins, condiments"). Asked for cutlery when food arrived and got exactly that - no salt, pepper or napkins. Waiter collected half eaten plate without asking why it was only half eaten, just took it (a relief as it was the fish and chips and awful, but really?). All in all, really disappointingly bad. If you can't cook or serve food well, just don't; this could be a great bar but it's a long way from being an acceptable eatery. 2/5 because the bar gets a 4 and the food would get a zero if I could.More

Staff not very friendly / don’t seem interested at all. It’s a self serve place and no one helps at all. Reminds me of a food court / the location is lovely though.

It is an open warehouse environment. Kind of authentic. Well decorated can house large parties. Food is on the expensive side as are cocktails. Beer very reasonable. Great place to kick back and relax.

Next to the water, lots of food options in the menu and great atmosphere. Went there twice last week for lunch and early dinner. Good food, tasty brewed beers and friendly service everytime. Worth a visit and a beer or two when you’re in Cairns.

Well located right on the waterfront, a converted wharf shed is now a micro brewery, which serves many limited editions brews as well as their regular range of micro-brewed beers. The tasting paddles were really popular. There is a funky pineapple cider which is really...worth trying and very refreshing on a hot day. It is a nice venue to visit, very large so there are loads of seating options with a great water views. All the drinks are reasonably priced and food is available. Worth a visit and great if you can get on one of their brewery tours. Great place to grab a beer and enjoy the water view.More

Large restaurant/brewery right on the water. The menu was large with lots of options we would have been happy with, we settled on the lamb sliders and smoked beef tacos. Both of which were delicious. My husband had a tasting paddle of beers which he...enjoyed. We spent a lovely afternoon drinking beers and watching the boats on the water. Great place and highly recommended. Just 2 small complaints - the chairs were wooden and hard - not really comfy and the music was too loud for comfortable conversation. It was a pity.More
