Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fixed Valentine's night dinner. Entrée and Main course has a selection. Every dish, that we either ate or observed was very well presented. My wife chose Duck Miang for the entrée, and would have just eaten that all night. Excellent. Room has a relaxing atmosphere,...(too hot and humid to eat overlooking the harbour), staff were attentive and happy. Very good evening meal.More

This is the best restaurant in Cairns. The food is top notch full of flavour and great portion sizes. The service is fab. the wait staff know all about the dishes and can help you if you are unsure of an ingredient, they are also...friendly and pleasant. The atmosphere is perfect. When ever we go to Cairns we always book here at least a couple of times as there is so many varieties of flavours to choose from. Just Love it.More

We managed to get a table outside with a lovely view. Took the seafood platter for 2 (two courses), which is not cheap, but it was good and portioned adequately. No room for dessert, but for the bottle of Chardonnay.

We booked a table and came a bit early. No issue, our table was ready. We were not mega hungry, so we skipped the starters. There were still plenty of tables in the restaurant, but it filled up quickly, including two larger groups. Our orders...were taken quite fast. We got our drinks and the ordered bread. After that, we saw many guests arriving after us and placing their orders after us, getting starters, getting mains … Our food was just not coming. When asking after more than 1 hour, the staff apologised and said it was probably because of the 2 bigger groups (didn’t seem to affect the orders of the other tables). Right after that our food was served, but the steaks were not medium/rare as ordered, but at it’s best medium. And the fancy named tampura fish was just a mediocre fish ‘n chips. So no, it was not worth the wait, and definitely not worth the money.More

The real question is not whether it was good but would I go back. Short answer: no. The food tasted great and wait staff were relatively attentive, which is why all these people turned up tonight. I agree that it would be a great place...for a special occasion, which is what I also saw tonight. You guessed it. There is a but. Should there be a but for a restaurant at the top of town! I had the 6-course degustation and was not disappointed by the flavour, ingredients, textures and appearance. I looked around at quantities on plates, mine included, and I was a bit underwhelmed. If I had been a guy in that restaurant (and there were plenty) I would be looking at Maccas on the way home. It doesn't take much to add a little more to the plate to really send home very impressed customers. God knows they are charging for it. Just think what you want as your expectations and see if this restaurant matches. Pictures to follow so that you can see what tasting plates 15cm wide at $115 buys you, without the wine or water.More

Very busy place, it was difficult to find a table without reservation, even for two. But waiting for a free table was the right choice, as we had a great dinner. The local meat varieties were served on a big plate (crocodile, emu, kanguroo and...salmon), with some good and dry Tasmanian wine. Service was a little bit slow though, but surely a place to revisit.More

We dined at Ochre on the 31/10/23 with a group of 4. The food and service was impeccable and could not be faulted. The staff were consistently attentive and ensured the table was checked on regularly. Our glasses were never empty. The food was delicious...and everything was well paired. The food was also served in a really great time frame from entree to main. The restaurant was busy and vibrant and yet this did not impact the quality of food or service at all. The location of the restaurant is beautiful and the views are spectacular. Ochre is our number one restaurant recommendation if you’re visiting Cairns.More

Do not go to this restaurant if you have kids. We drove 2 hours to eat at this restaurant because we heard they had great Australia native food. When we arrived they refused to seat us. They said they did not have room for 6...so I said ok we will spilt our group into 3 and 3 and they said could not seat us. I asked how many can you seat? They said No one. We looked around and did not see any children. I believe they did not want us there because we had children. Street clear of this place of you have kids. Very snobbish unprofessional. We went next door to Dundees and was seated workout a problem and enjoyed a delicious meal.More

Rude uninterestes personal. I made a booking for 22 people. We where 3 minutes late and got a snobby mouth from the lady in charge. There were less seats than i reserved. So i took a seat for one of my clients and got a...big mouth. Another waiter took my menu away. When it was my turn to order i told him i did not really felt welcome here and like that i didnt really feel like dining here. He smiled and walked away, totaly uninterrested. So never ordered my food. I really regret bringing out 21 clients of mine to this place. Good thing is that i can tell my 20+ collegues to never bring their clients here as well.More

If I could give more than 5 stars i would. I had to change my original booking time and the staff were understanding and had assisted me in booking a later time slot. If you are looking to experience native Australian ingredients, this is the...place to go as all produce are local in Australia, the staff were knowledgeable to what beverage best compliments your meal. My tastebuds are still tingling, my honest review is that my dining experience here is by far the best i have ever had.More

Great experience at Ochre. Consistently original and well-balanced flavours. We had the Australian Antipasto Plate which was a great introduction to bush tucker flavours. The Barramundi fish and chips was perfectly cooked and very satisfying while the Kangaroo had a great taste and texture and...was paired very well with bush fruit. I would love to visit again.More

A friend invited us to dine together at Ochre. We had separate mains and shared a "bush tucker" antipasto" entree and a couple of orders of dukka wattle bread. The entree was excellent, with a sampling of lemon aspen and beetroot gravlax – emu wonton...– Davidson plum, wild spice smoked kangaroo– riberry relish, smoked crocodile slices, & emu wonton, Service was friendly and excellent. For example, when I found my mojito cocktail too sweet for my taste, they replaced it without any discussion, at no extra charge. Strongly recommend the restaurant.More
