Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed a late lunch before seeing a show. The Powerhouse was very busy but all of the staff were happy and provided excellent service. The food was to die for! Really enjoyed the specials of the day. Great drinks too. Looking forward to visiting...again soon.More

Excellent quality dining at reasonable prices. Highly recommend. Located in the Brisbane Powerhouse, Bar Alto provides quality dining for all occasions. Nice to visit prior to seeing a Show.

Bar Alto always delivers on excellent food, wine choices and terrific staff. Four of us had lunch there today and everyone enjoyed it. It’s in great location in the Powerhouse with lovely river views. Delightful Italian food and hospitality. It’s a favourite for enjoying time...with friends and family.More

Busy day at the powerhouse today and Bar Alto also had plenty of patrons. Shared salted cod croquettes to start- delicious, followed by the special pasta- Agnolotti. Absolutely divine! Comprehensive wine list with plenty of options by the glass. Wait staff were attentive. It was...very noisy- that’s the only downside of the visit, but as the complex was busy with shows and exhibitions, plus the bare industrial fit out, it can’t be helped. We were sitting inside not far from the bar, but there is also outdoor dining available.More

We booked for a special birthday dinner last night. Our table was in what could only be called the cafeteria section. Despite requests to be moved to other obviously vacant tables perhaps with later bookings(?) the staff were resistant & almost rude. Atmosphere was awful....Don’t assume you’ll be seated in the lovely looking dining area displayed on the website. Staff didn’t know the daily specials, didn’t even offer to relay them to us unless we asked. Food was nice, but not exceptional. Also, if you don’t have a taste for pig based products, you’ll find this menu a challenge. This was a pricey dinner, spoilt by average to poor staff, extremely noisy & basic furnishings. Huge disappointment. This is a long-standing restaurant in the area & we’d previously dined at their Southbank location years ago, which was a superb experience! This was nothing by comparison. We will not be coming back.More

When we went to a show at the powerhouse we didn't realise this was more than a bar, we made the mistake of eating downstairs , as there was no coffee available ( 6.30pm Friday night) we decided to head to show level and came...across this now fully packed bar, the food looked amazingly yummy and the staff were so friendly and smiled! And were happy to make us a coffee which was really nice after the bad dinner and service downstairs, the service here really lifted our spirits. We will be back to have dinner. I highly recommend the coffee and kudos to the staff who while extremely busy still smiled and were really politeMore

Dining this evening with a friend. The waitresses ignored us and continued to play games or something on their phones. They were so young I wanted to ask for a manager but noticed that the older woman who was there earlier must of left leaving...teenagers to their own devices.. so safe to say we didn’t expect much. They were unhelpful and unfriendly towards us. Even trying to push us out after we had finished mains. Being a local in the area I was so disappointed and will not be returning not even the food can save this MonstrosityMore

The fish main was nice, the risotto had waytoo much cheese. Unsure about cheesy risotto with seafood, it felt too rich to my taste. Nice fresh salad.

We were really keen to return to Bar Alto having eaten there many times over the years. The waiting staff are among the best in Brisbane and the food is unpretentious modern Italian. The wine on this visit was good but the food lacked the...attention to detail that we have normally experienced. The entrees were much better than the mains, the burrata special was particularly good as was the quail with mustard fruits. The zucchini flower risotto special was lacking in taste and both striploin orders were sadly luke warm, over cooked and without the promised pine nuts and raisins. The potatoes were also burnt and hard, the greens were apparently good but didn't get any, we should have ordered more for 4 people. The barra was also deemed OK. The cheese course was standard and the coffee good. On balance the experience was disappointing as we know what they have been capable of in the past. Service on the night was attentive and warmer than the main courses. I hope for better food on our next visit as given the consistency over many years we will go back. As an aside to the food we were sitting in the annexe and at the end of the night we were told our credit card hadn't gone through at the table and that this happens from time to time due to the copper sheathing in the Powerhouse building and its impact on wi-fi. One couple then paid cash, I went to reception to attempt to pay a second time. Our credit card statement later showed two payments had been accepted and on calling the restaurant their system showed only one card and one cash payment. Bar Alto sent these receipts and we went through a disputed charge process with the bank, which took some back and forth for a month. I would recommend paying at the counter.More
