Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Score given is due to how slow the main came out. It was a Friday night, pretty busy. It was super slow. We enjoyed the flavours and the waitresses served well. Main size was good. It is a bit on the pricey side overall. For...1 beer, 2 wines each, 2 entrees and 2 mains $200. Given the good reviews we were disappointed. We live local but don't think we'll be back.More

I was really excited to try this restaurant due to the reviews and it is just up the road. Unfortunately we waited an hour for the 'snacks'. These are cold dishes and probably just need plating up so the delay was disappointing. When it arrived...the meal was very salty and underwhelming. Another 45 minutes for the main and we were just about to head to Maccas when it arrived. Fish was cooked well and overall satisfied with the dish however by this stage we were a bit over it. Best part was the wine. Service is great but there's only so many times they can fill your water while you wait for goodMore

We can recommend steak night! Perfectly cooked steak and delicious chips. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming. Great idea for a Wednesday night.

Food is fabulous, from entree to dessert, no complaint. Service is excellent, with explanation on food, and table service. Definitely a good vibe for dining with family and friends. This restaurant is one of my highly recommended places in North Brisbane.

We came in a couple of weeks ago with some friends who hadn't been in to Woodenhorse since the new owners and wow! What can I say! The host and our waitress were welcoming and our waitress showed great knowledge of the menu (even through...all of our questions). We got some bread and the bug to start with which were so tasty! My husband and I then got the shirt rib and fish and were not disappointed. The food was consistently amazing the whole time and our waitress continued to check in with us to ensure we were having a good time which we appreciated. Unfortunately we were too full for desserts but our friends and I agreed that we would all definitely come back to give them a try!More

The welcome was warm and welcoming, the service was attentive. We had starters and then the Wagyu beef. My complaint is that the beef was cold as was the sauce, we had to wait a considerable time for our mains and was therefore disappointed as...a result. The steak was cooked to perfection, the starters were tasty. Had the steaks and sauce come out warm or hot it would have been a perfect meal.More

My husband and I had dinner here with another couple on a Saturday evening. We usually look for a notable restaurant for our get togethers and were not disappointed by the experience. The service was friendly and professional, and the menu had several intriguing options....At first glance it looks rather plain -they haven't gone in for elaborate names - but each dish is presented uniquely. For example, I ordered the spatchcock, which was infused with flavour with something like herbs and mushrooms under the skin then broiled. It was tender and moist and perfectly flavoured. One of the other interesting items we had was bread with house made Vegemite and butter. (As another example, a dish we didn't order was watermelon with bee pollen...) My friend said he had never eaten Vegemite and never wanted to, but he did try this! The bread itself was also interesting as the rolls were somehow lightly fried resembling doughnuts (but savoury). I have been so intrigued that I went back to read the menu on line the next day, but they change it seasonally so I couldn't see the details of our dishes on line. All in all I would definitely return to try another few unique, seasonal offerings.More

We returned after a very good experience here a few years ago. This time was very different. We were saddened to see no accessibility assistance for a wheelchair-bound guest. The front door has stairs and there are more stairs to reach the back of the...dining room. His party was seated at the back of the dining room. This poor patron was forced to painfully, and slowly use the stairs each time he needed to use the bathroom while his wheelchair was carried down the stairs for him. There was no ramp available. This is inexcusable as there are many portable ramps available for purchase. We had a 7:30pm booking on Saturday night and were surprised that the restaurant had already sold out of short ribs and oysters. We were also told that they were unable to make the one cocktail we wanted on the limited menu. The service was slow, and we needed to remind the staff of our second drink order. The lamb was over cooked and dry. We looked at dessert but saw only two tarts and decided on McDonald’s drive-through on our way home.More

Unfortunately won’t be returning to the Wooden Horse, it’s a shame as we’ve been dining here for a few years. The high standards of vegan/ vegetarian food has dropped as my vegetarian dishes were missing key components and flavour. The food is over priced for...what we were severed and service was extremely slow ( we waited an hour for entree) cocktails were also very average and over priced for what we got. Sadly the new owners haven’t kept the same high standards as previous ones, and the re decorated interior was very basic and dull. The waiters were lovely though.More

We went as a family of four for the first time last night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are huge foodies and I must say the food was absolutely divine! My Japanese husband said the Wagyu beef was the best steak he has ever...had! We all enjoyed our meals but we were too full for dessert so we will just have to come back again!More

Great local restaurant serving fun refined food. Great for a date, dinner with friends or just a nice glass of wine. Giving suburban restaurants a classy touch.

First time coming to the wooden horse since being taken over by new owners. The decor was a little plain but still nice. Initial impressions were lacking a bit of excitement mainly due to little artwork and the menu being very small and not very...well presented considering the price of the menu items - however ! The food and drink we received had amazing bold flavour that delivered in just about every bite and sip we took. I will say the service was a bit mixed in terms of attentiveness. I would have appreciated more frequent check backs especially when we just entered the restaurant as it felt a long time before we were able to place our orders. All in all I did enjoy our visit to the Wooden Horse yet again. There are some things that require attention such as the menu aesthetic, service, decor and pricing of items but I feel if the new owners can fix these small problems the restaurant will shine again in a suburb that rightfully deserves a fine dining restaurant.More

This spot was totally romantic. From the lighting to the staff, the vibes were immaculate. The food was absolutely stunning. The wagyu brisket was a winner. The flavours were so decadent. Noteable also were the chicken ribs - devilish in their taste, with a familiar...fried chicken feel without the regret afterwards.More
