We approached for breakfast and stood in the doorway waiting to be served. The staff couldn’t have been more rude if they tried. They brushed passed us and obviously were not interested in serving us. We could see the manager behind the counter making drinks...and he looked up and then looked away again. We approached and asked for a table (there were plenty)….to be instructed to order takeaway and go and sit in the park. He was not interested and he was extremely rude, we just walked out. Don’t bother if you want a friendly dining experience. I’m glad we didn’t waste our money.More

Hmmm I feel your interpretation of the events that occurred during your brief visit were quite different to ours. I hope the rest of the week improved :)

The staff were very happy and friendly, a good spot for breakfast, the breakfast was lovely, but the coffee was below average

Not the best experience, wouldn’t be returning anytime soon. Expensive for what it is, ingredient alterations such as removal of a sauce not taken into consideration. Mango smoothie was nothing like a mango whatsoever, coffees are weak. The staff do not know what social distancing...is, especially leaning on the table to take peoples orders.More

Went for breakfast and experienced good coffee and eggs in nice setting. Needed to book table and found people waiting for our table before we were finished. Wait staff were pleasant. Lots of paid parking on street.

It’s got the view, it’s got the ambiance and it’s got the food! This is a great venue between the two Piers at Newstead, overlooking the Brisbane River. A few outside tables on the pavement, though most tables are indoors behind glazing for your uninterrupted...views. Delicious menu, good service, reasonably priced. What more could you wish for? Ah, good company and an excuse for the indulgence ;)More

Over the last 5 or so years we have dined at Malt, perhaps 2-3 times per year, for Sunday breakfast after our regular Sunday morning walk with close friends. For the 1st 3 years or so Malt was a regular & one of our favourites....About 2 years ago we had a really bad experience - very slow & poor table service, cold coffees & meals that were less than acceptable. We expressed our disappointment to management & they offered us free coffees next time we dined, with the promise of a better experience. We gave them a 2nd chance & were pleasantly surprised that they had delivered on their promise. This morning we went back again, but unfortunately this will be the last time that we dine there. We booked for 8:15 am & were informed that we would need to be finished by 9:30 am (no problem with that as that would be ample time). We arrived at 8:15 & were then told that we would be required to be be finished by 9:00 am (once again no problem so long as service is relatively quick). We knew we were in for an interesting morning when our ‘waitress with the wrong attitude’ eventually strolled over 10 minutes after we were seated. This young lady should not be working in the hospitality industry full stop - moody, unhelpful, unpleasant, unfriendly, impatient - you name it, she had all of the wrong traits for this job. Then we saw the menu & there was literally nothing on there that looked enticing. Now I will literally eat almost anything & I particularly love trying all sorts of different dishes but their current menu is just terrible (check it out online). We thought ‘surely this can’t get any worse’ but we were wrong. Three of us played it safe & simply ordered scrambled eggs on toast with bacon. Well we got that but they all came with a side order of 2 cups of oil. Our meals were swimming in oil. What used to be a favourite spot for us has now been blacklisted. We have been doing our Sunday walks for over a decade with our friends & we have dined at over 40 different cafes & restaurants during this time, & Malt is the very first cafe that we have blacklisted. Such a shame but it truly has become substandard.More

Craig It seems that we really failed here for a 2nd time. I apologise for your experience and hope that in further you will give us another chance to change your opinion. With the Covid situation we have been working on a restricted menu under...More

Four of us met for a delightful breakfast. The smashed avo and eggs and croissants were delightful as was the berry smoothie. Coffees could have been hotter. Service was prompt. Service was also mixed: one waitress was blunt and didn’t deal with a spilt coffee...at all (I would have thought a $109 bill might have elicited better service); the other (French) waitress was lovely 😊 recommended overall.More

Found this little cafe tucked away near the water, one of the best iced coffees I’ve ever had and the staff were so friendly. Didn’t have time to eat but great coffee 👌
