For the oldies of Brisbane the name Shingle Inn brings back memories of polished wooden walls, intimate alcoves and fabulous ham cheese and tomato sandwiches toasted perfectly. It is not like this now. It is noisy, open plan and que for service.

Persuaded by their placard to try a "Sunshine Breakfast" for $14.90, which looked & sounded original, I was totally disappointed when this nearly cremated "vol au vent" like structure arrived with a totally dry egg on top. I know I should have sent it back but it was only when you actually delved into the contents that you found it... More

Went here for a lunch break during a full day of Christmas shopping unfortunately it wasn't the relaxing retreat I had hoped for. The Salad was ok, nothing special and heavily over dressed. It's VERY noisy inside (particular the staff putting dishes away) Next time I would probably try somewhere else although their all day Breakfast menu did look good... More

Dined in for breakfast when we were in Brisbane recently and were very satisfied at the quality of the service and food. We ordered tea with breakfast and the small container with milk was hopeless - the milk just isn't able to poured into the cup. Get these replaced and the total experience will be a good memory and one... More

Hard to believe that this lovely cafe was dismantled and stored for 13 years. Brisbane's oldest cafe, built 1938 and now part of city hall. A gorgeous faux English tea room, this cafe is an oasis in the city. Delightful decor, good service- a real old world experience. We only had coffee but so much enjoyed our experience.

My mother has fond memories of her parents taking her to the Shingle Inn on special occassions as she grew up. So during a recent visit I decided to shout her coffee and cake as she tends to save her pension. She was excited to go. Honestly, I wonder why I bothered to go there. We ordered coffee and cake,... We had very good service, and tasty, freshly prepared toasted sandwiches: One club sandwich, one chicken and avocado. Friendly serving staff, and didn't have to wait very long for our meals to come out. We were shopping in Queen Street Mall and wanted lunch but the food courts too busy and loud,so looked around and found this place on another... More

Went to Mount Ommaney for breakfast today. Very disappointing. Big breakfast for $19 was poor. One slice dry sourdough toast with 6 cherry tomatos, a very small serve of mushrooms, 2 pieces of overcooked bacon-at least the eggs were cooked both sides as requested. Eggs Benedict with ham was also served on dry sourdough toast that was burnt on one... More
