This was supposed to be our honeymoon night of our wedding commitment completely ruined by events and reservations staff. Had to cancel all our reservations and plans made.

We were staying at Rydges in Brisbane South Bank and decided to eat at Bacchus, which is their in-house restaurant. It’s a nice looking restaurant, with excellent ambience and décor. The waiter asked if we had any dietary restrictions. I’m not sure how they anticipated...catering to any special dietary requirements, because when I asked if the broccolini could be cooked with butter instead of soy dressing, the waiter said that “the menu is the menu”. I was surprised that the question wasn’t even presented to the chef. Bacchus presents itself as an upmarket restaurant judging by the magnums of French champagne displayed everywhere and the $55 plus main courses ($80 with a side of veges). I would have expected that the waiter would have posed the question …. I’m sure they had broccolini and butter in their kitchen. We shared Wagyu tongue and pumpkin ravioli for entrée… those dishes were very good. For mains we had duck, served as a small haute cuisine portion. It was good, but not great. We had sides of broccolini and potatoes with black garlic. The food was good, but not worth the money. My son and I both had duck. The cutlery was placed on the table with a white gloved hand (the glove wasn’t the right size for the waiter’s hand) and we both received different knives… This might seem trivial, but this was another factor that you would not expect in a top class restaurant. The dessert menu was not explained but had cryptic descriptions such as “Strawberry” and “Chocolate”…. what?? I decided not to risk over $20 on the mystery dessert. I requested a Stella Artois beer. Some time later, the sommelier informed me that they don’t stock Stella. I can only say that my experience was diminished by the waiter’s off-hand rejection of my very reasonable request about the broccolini right at the start of the evening. This is something that the restaurant manager should take into consideration. Overall, Bacchus missed the markMore
Nice high tea in the city. Lovely service, delicately & yummy set of savory and sweet, the coffee was amazing too! Will recommend 😊
I have order the tasting menu. The first few dishes didn’t hit the right note of a fine dining standard. Luckily the main course have redeem their reputation.
Exemplary service, wonderful facilities for a birthday celebration. The service was seamless and top notch. I’d imagined a high tea and the experience was more than I could imagine. Thank you Maria
Food flavours and textures were bland and inexciting! I try degustation to try something new, this was a waste of time and money!More

The seafood starter was amazing - nothing to fault. But there was too much food for the main and it all came out cold. Dessert was tiramisu, one was find but the other had a weird taste. They seemed to be short staffed, as it...took quite a while to order and receive drinks. This is the second time going to Bacchus, and the food wasn't as good as expected that time either. So probably won't go back for a third time. Its a shame as the venue itself is beautiful.....More

We enjoyed the degustation menu to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The experience was magical. The service was spot on with attentive staff who were there when you needed them but didn’t hover or intrude. Silver service provided a theatrical backdrop for the exquisite food. Seven...courses plus palate cleanses and amuse bouche provided a parade of tastes and textures that continuously surprised and delighted us. We didn’t choose the wine pairings but the sommelier helped us choose some beautiful wines by the glass and a fabulous and affordable champagne to make our night special. Some of the highlights were the champagne lobster entree, the juicy duck breast main and the absolutely fabulous honey and chamomile bee desert. I also had the best clover club cocktail ever. Altogether a memorable night to celebrate our AnniversaryMore

Dull, bland, lacking character and distinction or even taste - this is the unfortunate truth about the supposedly 'highly rated' cuisine at Bacchus Rydges. The ingredients of the dishes on the menu appear delightful - but the combination & composition of the ingredients was timid...and lacking any sort of 'signature' by the chef. The expensive food was so tasteless and so unsatisfying that after eating the hors d'oeuvres and mains, we went to a nearby Spanish restaurant to have a real dinner.More
