We really enjoyed our dining experience at Malt. Staff were incredibly welcoming, accomodating and good humoured. We opted to have the sharing menu with dessert. We received more than ample food so felt this was incredible value and gave us the opportunity to taste some things we may not have gravitated to on first perusal of the menu. Flavours in each dish were fantastic but even better, the series of dishes the chef choose for us complemented each other well. We really enjoyed the way asian flavours eg sambal, miso etc were utilised. The Golden Syrup Leche Flan and the dessert special, Szechuan Amaretto Goat's curd, were both winners - intense flavours, interesting textures. Thanks again Malt for hosting us - we will most certainly return, plus pass on our recommendation to friends/family.

My fiance and I dined at Malt last night for our 5 year anniversary. When we arrived, there was a small bottle of champagne and a card congratulating us on our anniversary on the table - a small and thoughtful detail that set the tone for the remainder of the evening.
We decided to splurge and get the degustation experience with the wine pairings - totally worth it. The food and wine was exquisite. I especially loved the first drink, a mocktail called the Sage Bush Swizzle. Let's just say, I'm not huge into gin, but if all gin cocktails tasted like that, I'd be drinking it much more often! My favorite dishes in the degustation menu were the wantons in brown butter and the broccolini in green curry but they were all amazing!
The food was only outshone by Malt's staff who were so lovely and attentive. They asked about our anniversary, joked around with us, and were delighted to find out we were getting married next month as well. It seemed like they truly cared about us beyond our dining experience.
We really can't say enough good things about Malt, the food and the staff. It was such a lovely evening, and we will be back soon!

It's so rare that absolutely every part of dining comes together but Malt has succeeded where so many restaurants fail. Begin your evening with the atmospheric Malt Bar (a scotch whisky drinkers paradise but so much more) then make your way up the artistic staircase to the wonderful heritage restaurant itself. Be greeted by the friendliest wait staff ever (and I knew this even over the phone) and then eat the most amazing food. I don't even know where to begin to describe the food, but I can tell you that between the 6 of us we ordered 8 items off the menu and two desserts and from pumpkin, to pork, to mozzarella, to broccoli, to chats, to lamb, to sirloin to camembert, I don't think I've ever heard so many "oohs are ahhs". Lots of gluten free options all clearly marked, too. It was my wife's birthday as well and she was treated like a queen: to quote her ... "best birthday dinner ever" ... and she's been having them for close to 50 years! Being relatively small, you could actually have conversations without yelling and we left with smiles all round. Thank you so much. I'd give you 5+ if i could.

We were disappointed with Malt.
We went for dinner, and decided to go for shared small plates.
For a start, the drinks service was incredibly slow— our bottle of wine, which we ordered when we arrived, came after our first course was delivered. At that stage, the restaurant was quiet, so no excuse for the delay.
Of the four plates, one was unpleasant ( eggplant dumplings of sloppy consistency, drowned in pungent black vinegar) , one was OK ( a fancy bruschetta) and two were very good ( a beef Tatare, and a Thai basil sorbet with some nice trimmings)
The restaurant space is Ok, but nothing special.
Overall, disappointing, and we won’t be back

We went to Malt for a celebration dinner and had such a beautiful night. I am a terribly fussy eater and went based on their menu I had viewed the week prior, however we happened to go on the day that they changed their menu and there was nothing on the new menu I could eat. The chef had enough ingredients left to make me some of the old menu's dishes and they really didn't have to do that but they were so kind about it and it saved the evening. The food was really good quality and delicious. The dining room is cosy and charming, and the staff were all super pleasant.

Apologies for the late reveiw. As a family of five, we dined for dinner on Saturday 1st August.
What can I say.
We were greeted by a bar staff member who was so friendly and so attentive.
When our table was available upstairs a birthday card was given to my son for his 21st, signed by the staff. The wait staff were amazing, so friendly and so accommodating and they knew their food.
They were like friends. We, as a family of five had a great time.
The food was superb.
I don’t think I’ve tasted food as good as Malt in a long time and I could say confidently, this is the best service I’ve received in a VERY long time.
Congratulations and well done!!

Didn't book for a Tuesday lunch. No need. Small space but well patronised. Very different menus and my choice was the blackboard special of 4 items for $39. Serious wine list but quite pricey. Service, OK. Bit annoyed that I was not informed that there was a credit card surcharge. Overall, quite nice.

We dined on Thursday the 1st of October, We all had a degustation 1 vegetarian, 2 omnivore and with wine pairing.
My friend has allergies to chilli and capsicum (which I informed before arrival) and Malt happily altered the meals.
The wine pairings were perfect and the food was amazing, with flavours paired that I have not tasted before but all worked well.
The staff were lovely, knowledgable and fun.
We all can not wait to go back later in the year and try the summer menu.
The restaurant also has a lovely atmosphere with brick walls and high wooden ceilings.
I would recommend this restaurant for any from business meetings to an anniversary and everything in between!

Absolutely amazing.. best dinner we’ve ever had in Brisbane. So many flavours...like an eating adventure, been hard to eat “normal” food since.
Loved the Kingfish, and the Cauliflower Roast ( sorry chef, I know it was called something fancier) and the killer deserts. Such unique combinations.
Service was really good too, especially the menu explanations.. great antidote for the lockdown blues Brisbane city has at the moment.
Great wine list also.
Highly recommend this place.

We booked Malt dining for a work function. Our group was ~30pax and our function was in the upstairs dining room. The room was beautiful, perfect size for what we needed and lovely old-world character and in a great location. Telita (functions manager) was a dream to deal with, she was very flexible and catered to the needs of our group. The food was tasty, and the chef even came out to speak to us about the food which was a nice touch. I received good feedback from my colleagues about the space, food and wine. We come to Brisbane a few times a year and need a venue for dinner, I would consider booking this for dinner again!

My wife and I were at malt dining. Service was okay but the food was the very disappointing. Scollops were cold and pork belly was not rendered with a whole piece was fat.
I outlined this to manager when he collected the plates and was told he would tell the chef but no apology offered.
Overall disappointing.

This restaurant is situated in Wenley House, a heritage building in Brisbane and has maintained the character of the building. Even though we were early for our booking, we were greeted warmly and given a seat in the downstairs bar until the upstairs restaurant opened.
A nice warm feeling in the bar, and the number of whiskies on offer would suit any whiskey lover.
The menu and wine list were not extensive, but were sufficient. I guess with Covid reducing trade, an extensive menu would be hard to justify. Both mains we ordered were more than enough for our needs and were appreciated and enjoyed. The menu is different and a visit there is well worth the effort.

Nicely renovated. The atmosphere was lovely for a date night or a few couple. It’s nice to have a drink downstairs before heading up to the restaurant. We enjoyed the entrees and the wine selection was great. My husband had the ocean trout and I had the beef fillet. The entrees were the stand out. The beef was perfectly cook but a Lou too much going on with the jus and then a miso gravy. Too many flavors. We would come back but choose differently on the menu.

The restaurant itself is dim and cosy with the service impeccable however the food was a let down. The calamari was basic and not seasoned, corned was ummmm not what we expected with grilled blobs of cheese plus grated cheese, the beef tartare was the worst I've ever had and tasted like a lemon and the quial had no seasoning or taste to it whatsoever. We didn't finish our meals, they weren't pleasent.
