Thankfully, The Ship Inn reopened on Saturday, June 6 following the welcome easing of COVID-19 restrictions, so my wife & I went there with two of our family members for a post-lunch bottle of wine, and we were so very glad we had decided to do so...!! Despite being at post COVID-19 capacity (20 patrons in each defined area) both inside and outside, the service provided to our party of four by Publican John, and his daughters Bridie and Rachel was surprisingly prompt, and both friendly and attentive. John "runs a good show", and it's quite obvious he has extensive experience managing pubs, because the way he and his team were handling the (admittedly limited) capacity crowd, was exemplary. The menu is extensive, with many Queensland sourced produce on offer. Numerous wines are available by the glass (something you don't see on offer at too many Pubs), with most offering exceptional "value for money". We will be frequenting The Ship Inn as often as we possibly can, because John and his team deserve our patronage.

From immediate polite and prompt seating on (unbooked) arrival, the service at the Ship Inn was impechable. Drinks served within 2 minutes of ordering and delicious meals served within an equally approprite time frame. One of our waiters even suggested we try a particular couple of wines before deciding; and we were only buying by the glass. That is exceptionally kind and generous service. Well priced and very interesting historical hotel, located within beautiful surroundings. Don't miss it.

From the moment I contacted Lindsay at the Ship Inn regarding our end of year lunch, I was impressed. We had a small per head budget which she was more than happy to accommodate as well as being happy for my staff to purchase their own alcohol (we provided soft drink only). A selected menu was chosen which was printed individually for us which was impressive. The meals were delicious which everyone enjoyed - especially our vegans! The staff were attentive without intruding. And while we lingered there for 3 hours, enjoying the sun on the deck, we didn't feel pressured to move on or order more drinks or dessert. The location is perfect with plenty of parking & public transport nearby - which a which was just a leisurely stroll through the gardens away. We will definitely be back!

I came to the Ship Inn with my parents who are visiting from the UK. We were very disappointed and won't be returning again. My dad and I walk in and unfortunately encountered the male staff member. He asked for our COVID vaccination certificates which my parents had left at home. We have been to many hospitality venues across Brisbane over the last few weeks and not one has asked for our COVID vaccination certificates. My dad explained that he had left it at home and the staff member aggressively said he refused to serve us and we needed to leave. My dad rushed home to get the certificates and by the time he returned and we entered the venue again, it was a female staff member who didn't even ask for them. As we had a dog with us we sat outside. The male staff member reappeared and asked us to sit somewhere else as the table next to us was reserved and our dog would be in the way. We were made to sit at the other end of the venue and were annoyed that the reserved table didn't show and there was no need for us to have been moved. I ordered the sausages and mash which was a very small portion for the expensive price ($25). The sausages were extremely spicy, there was a small amount of mash and the tiniest amount of mushy peas ever seen. I didn't enjoy it. My parents ordered the steak sandwiches and mostly enjoyed them, however, the steak was quite tough and some parts inedible. No table water was brought to our table during our meal and the female staff member came and apologised after we'd finished our meal saying she'd forgotten to bring it over and would we like some now. The pub wasn't even half full so this was just bad service from the staff. Expensive prices for below average food, rude staff and lazy service. Wish we had gone somewhere else and not wasted our time and money on this place.

Had dinner here this evening before a show at QPAC. We arrived and were a bit concerned we would not be served in time as there were 2 large groups however they were just having catch up drinks. We were met at the door by a lovely and friendly gentleman who directed us to our seats. There was just this gentleman and an equally lovely and friendly lady serving drinks, taking orders and delivering meals. However service was efficient and slick. We ordered a drink and a starter of cheesy garlic bread to share, by far the best cheese bread we have ever had. For mains my partner had one of the specials, a brisket sandwich and I had an entree of leek and cheese croquettes with tomato jam, WOW. The tomato jam was sensational, I make a pretty mean tomato relish but this was outstanding. I want the recipe. The croquettes were just the right size for a small eater and delicious. my husbands meal looked and he said tasted amazing . The service was first class they knew we were going to a show so made sure our meals were served promptly, both staff were friendly and genuinely caring and made us feel like they actually loved what they do. We will definitely be back and will recommend you to friends. Great food great value and great service. Thank you

My wife and I had lunch yesterday and I have to say that everything was perfect. When we sat down on the verandah the first thing that happened was that Dave the Labradoodle, who was with us, was given a bowl of water. Dave and the staff were friendly and really attentive. The food was delicious, with my steak sandwich, which was recommended by Dave, was easily the best I’ve ever had. All in all a great experience.

We waited for an hour and then asked for someone to take our order. We had not even been asked for a drink order that whole time. The waiter was very rude. Three of us wanted items off the menu that were not available. One of us ordered the chicken that was supposed to come with potato au gratin but the waiter didn’t say that the au gratin was no longer avail and assumed chips would be an acceptable substitute without asking. The meal took a long time to come to the table. Three of us were not happy with the quality of the meal. The steak was ordered medium but came well done. It came with salad when vegetables were ordered. The mushroom sauce was missing when it came to the table. Wait staff did not come to the table after they brought our meals; not to check how thing were or to offer dessert. I am embarrassed that I recommended this venue for our lunch today.

My wife and l decided to check out the ship inn hotel for lunch after walking past and seeing the sign clearly stating "BEST PUB GRUB IN BRISBANE". Wow if this is the best that Brisbane has to offer they need help. Unfortunately l chose to order the lamb shanks. Big mistake. I think l only had 2 mouthfuls and could not stand anymore. I have never had lamb that had a old and mouldy taste until now? I offered my wife a taste and her reaction was the same as mine. Thankfully it was not a total loss as the mash potato was quite tasty and the service was quite prompt and friendly. I think the chef's may need to do a taste test/refresher on a few of the basic dishes.

We stopped in for a glass of wine on Friday approximately 03:00pm we would have liked to have a light snack with the wine. However we were told by bar man/waiter the kitchen was closed. I did ask out of interest what time the kitchen closed, to be told the kitchen is closed. We accepted this, however whilst sitting a man passed with a bowl of chips, he arrived after us. The advertisement for The Ship Inn is all day dining Mon -Friday. Not sure why we were told "Kitchen Closed". One thing the owner should take into account is we are local and when things get quiet he will depend on the locals. Well not this local I will not be in The Ship Inn again there are lots of other places to go.

Most menu items look like pub standards, but the daily Friday Hut specials - ethically sourced beef, free range pork and chicken dishes - stood out. Wednesday we were too late for the chicken and chorizo cassoulet but really enjoyed the Barcoo Beef sirloin with pepper and whisky sauce, potato galette and buttery carrots, broccolini and asparagus. The third option was a free-range pork belly. A vegetarian offering would have been good. Service fast and friendly. Generous wines by the glass. Recommended.

The Crayfish dish was mainly pasta and the seafood was dry and over cooked. The wagyu sirloin (medium) was not in anyway marbled and was no different to anyother mediocre sirloin steak. The table service not at all engaging or friendly, rather cold and condescending we thought. Overall, disappointing for one of our locals.

We were visiting Soutbank and looking for somewhere to eat with a tired 8yrd old and "hangry" 4yr old. From the moment we stopped to look at the menu we felt super welcomed and are so glad we chose to dine here. Steve was an instant hit with our kids and even asked the chef if they could make Mr Hangry a burger he had requested that was not on the menu (which they happily did). Meals came out fast and were amazing - many thanks to the Chef! My husband highly recommends the stuffed chicken. After a very long and somewhat stressful day at the hospital with our son, to be looked after so well was really nice. Thank you so much Steve, you made us feel like part of the family and it although it may seem like a small thing, it meant the world to us!

Atmosphere great. Waiter attentive but waited an hour after ordering due to them changing the oil. Food was dreadful. Hair found in the Tartare sauce and Crumbed fish severely over cooked Expensive for such crap food ! Bonus...chips were great. Salad not bad.

Wonderful staff and a welcome stop after walking the length of South Bank. We hadn't booked, so we were very grateful for the last minute table indoors (air conditioning). Compliments to the Chef and their team, we were blown away by how light the pastry topping was for the Beef & Guinness Pie, and how tasty.

A friend and I walked here from my hotel and it was a long but enjoyable walk. The location of The Ship Inn, in the parklands, is a great place with a wonderful ambience to it. It was not overcrowded or noisy. I had the grill chicken parma ... it was very odd having an un-crumbed chicken parma but it will ok flavour-wise. I would suggest the offer both the crumbed and un-crumbed versions. The friendly staff and ambience is what sets The Ship Inn apart from a standard pub. Definitely worth a visit.
