Having booked a specific table due to one of our party being autistic and having had that booking confirmed on two occasions I was appalled to arrive as the first member of a party of 7 only to find the table occupied by another party of 4.
I complained to the manager and explained why we had booked that table and asked why, if they were not going to honour our specified table request, they had not notified me.
The manager firstly claimed that they did not accept specific table number bookings (although they had done so on 3 previous occasions) then she claimed that the party that was on our table had booked before me which, when I queried this with that party, they denied!!
At that stage we had no alternative but to accept a different table as the remainder of my party was on their way.
Once we had ordered we then had a wait of 1 hour and 7 minutes until our food arrived and tables that sat down after us were served before us.
The food is excellent but the management is appalling.
Were we offered a discount or free drinks? No, nothing.

I am so sorry we upset you, below is a response to a second complaint to this same issue by way of a partial explanation. I have just issued a memo to our staff to make them more aware of this issue and some steps to take to try and avoid upsetting guests in this way. Some of our casual staff only work a few hours a week so it is difficult to get to them all. After reading below please call me in the mornings when you need a guaranteed table and I will do my best Regards, Tom

I do wish to apologize that we upset you on this visit but we don't do this intentionally. if you ring for a booking during meal times or peak service times 11-3 or 5-9 your call will most likely be answered at the bar by a casual bar attendant, we don't have people sitting in an office, we are out serving customers.
The Bar attendant that takes your booking does not have the bookings book in front of them, it is at the door to seat people as they arrive for todays bookings, bar staff have a note book to write bookings into, so they don't know if table 64 has already been booked and this is why they say I will put it down as a preference.
Bookings are transcribed into the bookings book at the end of each service 3pm or 9pm for future bookings and if 64 was requested and already booked we allocate a different table, we feel that is ok with most guests as it was noted as a preference. (we are starting to realize in the last few weeks, judging by this review and one other that customers are very upset if they don't get their preference but the fact is we only have one table 64 and it is requested several times a day..... only one of those requests can be the first to request it. Yes as you stated we do guarantee bookings but only when we can be in front of the bookings book and confirm you are the first to ask for a table, this we can do outside service times ie 7am-11.30 any other time we could be serving with far to many people looking for service to run to the door.
I Have spoken to some of the staff you mentioned in your complaint and they did not intend to come across as being rude they have just not been exposed to dealing with upset guests and basically felt they were not able to explain how this can happen without exacerbating the issue.
so please, if its a special occasion and you must have a special table please ring early morning and the manager will have loads of time to check if what you want is available

We visited upon recommendation and were not disappointed. The head waitress was extremely helpful with suggestions and the chef was understanding and supportive of Coeliac disease requirements. My daughter had the first spring rolls out in six years and they were brilliant! The ribs are of a good portion size for the price and the pizza was delicious. The desert a delight. Would highly recommend for regular as well as Coeliac dining out.

Very impressed at the quick service of my food after ordering. All meals were served with 19 mins of ordering. Friendly staff too. Meals were good. Normally I would not review for a local venue but in this instance . It was really good 😀😋

We have been eating at Hotel Monier for some time and mostly been really happy with the food (choices and quality) and good service. Thursday 4 Jan was our anniversary dinner and really disappointed with the food. We had just ordered and sat down and within a minute our food arrived. Both our dishes were only luke warm as if been through a quick reheat and my Satay Chicken and Rice appeared as if everyting thrown on to the plate. The presentation was not appealing. Both our dishes didn't taste very good. There were lots of guests so I didn't want to waste anyone's time to complain. However did talk to the waitress to let the chef/kitchen know of our disappointment. We arrived, ate and left witin 30 min or so. Normally we are there for at least two hours plus. Sorry forgot to take any photos.

We have dined at this Hotel regularly since it opened, and have enjoyed the food, service and ambience of the restaurant. We have booked staff gatherings on numerous occasions also.
But lately, we have been very disappointed with the attitude of staff. every time we ring to book a preferred table, we never get it. When we complained to staff, we were advised to nominate the table number in future, to make sure we got it.
Last week we rang to book a birthday dinner for two and requested a specific table number and location, and were told it was booked for the nominated time. On arrival, we were told by a very arrogant and rude Night Manager that booking a specific table does not guarantee we will get it, The Manager's attitude became defensive, justifying the mistake, instead of attending to the problem within your booking system.
We were so upset, as this was the 4th time this has happened to us. We ended up walking out without our dinner.
It would be beneficial if staff training was provided in customer service and care, to retain your past good record.

I understand your frustration, in reality it is easier to give our guests a table that they have requested than it is to try and find them a similar table that hopefully will be acceptable.
We don't disregard your requests out of spite but many factors can change our ability to give you a particular table and for this reason we ask staff to say we have listed your preference and will endeavor to get that table for you.
So what can go wrong ? If a customer rings to book during lunch or dinner service the Restaurant staff will be serving guests and your phone call will likely be answered in the Bar, Gaming room or Bottle shop, those staff don't have the reservation book in front of them to check if your requested table is already booked, hence the "we will pass on your preference on to the restaurant".
If the person having a late lunch, afternoon drink or business meeting is still on the table when you arrive... We can't kick them off. Your table is along the glass line with a view and is popular for people having drinks between service 3-5pm and some just stay on for a meal.
Sometimes people don't get the table requested because it is consumed by a very large table, table 8 becomes 25pax so table 9 and 10 end up being joined on for that night, on these nights your requested table may just not be on the floor. Also, sometimes we just have to move people at the last moment because of special needs that we were not aware of when they booked, things like extra room for a pram, wheelchair, wheelie walker, high chair, age or disability and sometimes we just get the odd person that just sits themselves.
We do apologize, for the Big Disappointment we have not acted with malice we always try to meet any request we can, sometimes the availability is just out of our control.

DREADFUL experience caused by rude management. It seems the restaurant falls apart when the General Manager Tom is not there. We have been making bookings with the Monier Hotel for many long years and our experience on the 16 Feb has left us wondering why would we return. It's just a matter of time before at least 2 senior staff will drag the good reputation down so much that regulars will look elsewhere. We always book the same table number in the 'coffee section' of the restaurant because it is quieter for me with a hearing problem. The booking was made and confirmed yet when we arrived and saw the table was occupied we were told they don't guarantee bookings - that was a first, but I do believe it had something to do with the sour faced woman who did her best to make sure even when ordering the meals that her facial expressions changed to unfriendly when the men reached the top of the line. Sadly the service was poor but probably another deliberate attempt to make sure our evening was totally ruined. We were to return with another couple next week but in all honesty we don't want to risk another dining experience if the same managers were on duty again.

We often come to the Monier and I have given it 5 star reviews before. Today, I gave my first ever constructive feedback (the fries were dreadful, they were cold, some of them were brown as in the potatoes). I told the waiter and he did nothing. We left them all!!! It will be a while before we return, listen to your customers….

One of our favourite locals, I recommended this to colleagues a farewell lunch. Unfortunately food was not up to the usual standard with several meals overcooked to the point of being burnt, in particular, the lamb chops and steak. Very disappointing as I'd enjoyed delicious meals previously.

Celebrated a 60th birthday at the Hotel Monier. Staff were very helpful with booking and had everything ready to go. Nothing was too much trouble.Well catered with a large selection of food served quickly. Chef did an exceptional job of presenting each slice of the birthday cake. Much appreciation from all who attended. Will definitely be back.

We used the take-away option today.Ordered sweet and sour pork and chicken and cashew stir fry. .Pleasant young person took the phone order and it was ready exactly by the time she said it would be. No queuing, was shown straight to the pay station and was in and out in minutes. Great system and the food was delicious and very generous serves. Also , the seniors discount applied even though it was take away. We will certainly be using this option again.
We have been going to the Hotel Monier for some years now and both food and service are always tops. Take away is a great option for those worried about Covid.

We have been meeting our friends here every Thursday night for the last 5 years, love the staff who are very friendly they even remember what drinks we order.
Food is always good and there is plenty of it.
We will keep coming.

Having made a large booking at our usual table imagine our upset to find that table occupied. Management made their usual excuse when they stuff up that they don't take bookings for specific tables. Absolute rubbish. The Roald Dahl lady who was also old and taking orders did her best impression of a lady dog when dealing with us. Food good but it took so long to come out and why did we have to be seated next to the noisiest table in the restaurant. We have been coming to this restaurant usually at lunchtime for years but thanks to the disgraceful treatment by the two managers we shall NEVER return.

I am sorry I have been in Hospitality all my life but this is the most racist, sexist personal attack I have ever seen, I try to be nice when answering reviews unless I know the person is just after a free meal (it does happen). but this review is just out of line, we may be servers but we are not animals.
Sadie out Restaurant manager and English Rose in my opinion would be the kindest most accommodating Restaurant Manager anywhere in Australia, you only have to look at all the 5 star reviews on Google and Sadie's helpful service would be the topic of two out of every three.
Yes the table you requested may still of been occupied, afternoon guests may still of been their, if you rang to book during lunch or dinner service your phone call would be answered by someone very busy serving guests on the day you rang and your table request would of been listed as a request (not confirmed) as they are not at the bookings book to check, you would of been told this.
If you need a special table 100% please ring before lunch and not when we are serving, we then have time to walk to the book and check if table 64 is available, I have no doubt this is the table you refer to as it is our most requested table but only one group, can have it. This may not sound like the best customer service but if you have been here during a meal service and you are waiting at the bar to be served i am sure you don't want staff leaving you standing there and running to the door to see if a table is available for another day. if you must have a special table please don't ring during service hours.

Came here for lunch to bring a couple of my nan and her friends for a nice day out. Horrible experience as my nans chair had shattered glass on it, supposedly from the night before, so clearly they didn't check the cleanliness of their restaurant before opening. Whoever shattered the glass shouldve cleaned up after themselves properly!! The worse part about it was the guy checking us in at the door just came over, swapped the chair out & then just handed my nan a band aid with no real apology or even offer of compensation of some sort....he could've at least offered a gesture of hospitality by allowing my nan to have lunch on the house!! My nans hand was bleeding!! I think the customer service & care factor was poor! We shouldn't have had to say anything as he should've had the common decency to offer her something! Food was ordinary (and I'm not just saying that because of the bad experience!) This review couldve been a whole lot more positive if the time was taken to look after your patrons!!

I have not answered this email until now as I felt anything I said would be considered as bad grapes but i am not uncaring so here is my reply.
Yes, I was the person that sat your group. There was glass on the seat and we had no idea it was there. I found out looking at the camera system, a customer from gaming walking to the bathroom went to place a glass on the table and missed. It hit the chair and shattered like a windscreen, not big pieces little squares of glass.
Your Nan did sit on the chair and I was on hand as I was sitting your group, I did notice she had a small cut on her hand and I rushed off to get her some first aid, she told me a band aid was sufficient.
I moved your group to a different table and returned twice to offer an apology, I did ask your Nan if I could do anything else for her but she said she was fine.
I do understand we are responsible for the venue and if we knew this glass was broken we would of cleaned it up, this is a daily task in hotels.

Our 2nd visit and once again the customer service was excellent, so friendly and welcoming. Variety of meals to choose including a large range of vegan options. Thoroughly enjoyed the vegan “chicken” parmi. So tasty and you wouldn’t even know it was meatless. Meals come out quickly and together. Price range reasonable. Clean and tasteful decor. Great play area for children. Highly recommend!

Best GF coeliac restaurant in greater Brisbane. So many options. As a coeliac you will be spoilt for choice. Great to be able to go to a restaurant that truly understands what GF means to a coeliac.
