With a name like the Prawnster, who could help but want to check out this new addition to the Brisbane dining scene?
The Prawnster is a boat berthed at Dockside at Kangaroo Point, with a floating pontoon next to it. There are some small tables on the boat, and some tables for larger groups on the pontoon.
The menu is super basic - fresh seafood served straight off the trawler, and nothing else. Literally nothing else. Not only do you bring your own drinks, you bring your own plates, cutlery, bread, salad or whatever else you fancy! So, come prepared is what I’m saying.
My husband and I shared the $90 platter for 2 people, of prawns, bugs, salmon sashimi and 6 oysters. There are 3 or 4 cheaper platter options on offer too.
The seafood was delicious. I wouldn’t say it was particularly cheap, but I guess you are paying in part for the experience of dining on a boat or pontoon, which was indeed a lot of fun.

Thoroughly enjoyed this new casual seafood dining experience on the water in Brisbane. Great location gazing at the Story Bridge lights as we ate scrumptious prawns and Moreton Bay Bugs served by friendly hosts. BYO alcohol and bread rolls if you want that great Aussie prawn roll. Go local in Kangaroo Point. You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect location for enjoying the pleasures of the great Queensland reefs. Mixed prawn platter and chilled BYO wine. Great service compliments the fresh and tasty seafood and eating on a boat on the Brisbane River as the sun sets. Who could ask for anything better.

the seafood is fresh but they are now trying to cram people in and most are not even on the boat but at temporary tables set up on the walkways. Not licenced which is fine but the toilet is miles away and so is parking so doesnt suit older or less mobile customers. They close early and are not flexible. We had a booking for a group at 7.30 but due to the table not being ready we did not get seated till 7.50 and then quite rudely told....we are closing in two minutes!.. oh. scramble to finish and bolt. I would suggest buying your own seafoood and going to sit somewhere along the river. Just as lovely and cheaper

Thanks for the very positive review of our seafood offering, that's out core reason for being. Our takeaway and on board pricing are equivalent. We're very sorry we were not able to meet your expectations for your evening out.
Sorry for any confusion. We only take bookings for the boat on the automated reservation system. Our overflow tables are not booked, they are there for walk-up customers who wish/choose to dine with us if the boat is full.
Our dining windows are currently 1 hour, we are super quick with the food and seating. The final 730pm seating sometimes sits til 9pm, that 730 final sitting is advised the kitchen closes at 8pm not asked to leave, sorry for any confusion. Staff are generally family members and we are super conscious of our customers and meeting thier expectations. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you aboard soon.

Due to the great reviews, we were really looking forward to trying this restaurant. Unfortunately, we ordered the Del Feugo mixed platter, both the prawns and the bugs had been previously frozen and were very tasteless and extremely watery. Some of the prawns on the platter were very soft and squashed. I didn't want to make a scene, so when the waitress came to our table and told us it was time to leave I quietly told here the problem that we had with the platter. We left both bugs and prawns on our platter The waitress really didn't seem to appear to be interested in our feedback, but did eventually tell me that she would tell the chef.

Booked with my daughter for my birthday. Didn’t realise bring your own everything such as cutlery, plates etc and ordered sashimi and a platter. The waitress was lovely but didn’t ask us which platter and brought the most expensive one with sashimi plus the extra sashimi plate. Sat next to tyres and floor of water - mind you it was raining. Given a very smelly bucket to put in seafood. Pontoon was dirty and we stayed 30 minutes and left. Not the best birthday dinner and seafood was nice but not what I would expect for the $90 platter I didn’t even order in the first place. You need to communicate much better on site around what you can bring to your restaurant other than BYO. We won’t be back.

Sonia, We can all make mistakes, it's what we do when we've made them that's important. The same multiple poor reviews you're posting feels disproportionate to be fair.
If you got served the wrong platter.... Please say something at the time, we'll correct it. We've all been there. We're pleased the offering was fresh and enjoyed. We're genuinely here to serve our customers. If you raise these matters you might be pleasently surprised, there's little point after the fact if you didn't say something! We're a new small family business, with overwhelming excellent reviews, we care, but we're not perfect, we're sorry your expectations weren't met, as you can see from reviews you most certainly can have an exceptional experience (please give us the opportunity) we wish to ensure all our customers leave happy. We apologize we didn't meet your expectations, and we'll continue to try harder.

Five stars for position on the river and BYO and 1 star for welcome and hospitality.
Popped into this place while out for a walk. Was made to stand and enter my details and register my booking by phone, while actually being there. Booking process tells you that there is a $20 no show penalty per person which I felt was outrageous as the booking was for 4. We booked for 7.30pm and were told within five minutes that the kitchen was closing at 8pm. Not the best experience. The staff however were pleasant and efficient (what we saw of their service). Maybe we just hit a bad day, but the overall feeling is that customers are not valued and you are just being processed here for the benefit of the business. All a bit joyless and yet it could be fantastic. The position on the river is unique in Brisbane.

Prawns and oysters with a wine, on a fishing trawler overlooking the Brisbane river a pleasant experience. Seafood from Mooloolabah fresh and tasty. Service friendly.
A nice different way to see out the end of day. BYO when we visited; licence pending.

Read my reviews. I always find something to complain about. However, with last night's meal, I have some suggestions, but definitely no complaints.
Set in a quiet part of the river with a nice outlook over the story bridge, you are sat on the trawler boat.
It is basic. Plastic cutlery, no plates, wine buckets for shells, cafe napkins, wonky tables. But this forms part of the charm.
The food was fresh, and the oysters were possibly some of the best I have ever had.
Our sashimi did have a couple of bones which was disappointing, and our bugs were on the smaller side.
For me, a little crab would really make the platter remarkable.
However this is all the negatives I have to say!
When the platter first came, I thought it looked small, and We would be off to Hungry Jack's after. However that was totally the wrong assumption.
The $90 platter was shared between the two of us and it was perfect.
Bring your own sides, some nice olives, nice breads and bitter to help have something more with your platter as The Prawnster does not offer anything on the side.
Good to know this is also a BYO
We will 100% be back and I have recommended to everyone that I know already!
Martin the owner, came to every table, to check in, make sure everyone is happy and is hugely personable.
Martin, the pleasure really was all mine! Thanks for a great night!

Visited Prawnster for a Sunday lunch. The concept is brilliant, the food equally so.
Staff are friendly and service is quick
I loved sitting on a trawler enjoying the freshest of seafood.
Make sure that you prepare yourself as if you are going on a picnic, knives, forks, plates, drinks, salad, bread rolls etc
Would definitely recommend

The Prawnster has arrived in Kangaroo Point and it is such a bonus for the residents. To be able to walk out the door and grab fantastic fresh prawns and bugs is an absolute luxury and I am no doubt they will be a huge success. Great service, really nice people and beautiful fresh seafood - a win for all that live in this great area.

Well this is a hidden little gem. The Prawnster is tucked away on the Brisbane River and exclusively serves prawns and seafood. When I say exclusively, I mean they only serve seafood… with nothing else. You can BYO salad etc if that’s your thing. What they do sell is wonderful, fresh, delightful seafood! (We had mixed prawns and Moreton bay bugs). The young guy on staff did a solid job managing the place on his own.
The reason this didn’t get 5 stars is largely to do with the ordinary surroundings (on an inside mooring) and not any big effort to create vibe. Some simple background music and better lighting and a little more care on surroundings would make a huge difference.
If you love yourself some seafood… it’s worth the visit!

I love this restaurant have been 3 times as I live close by and am now used to taking plates, glasses, cutlery, bread and salad. I went last week and was surprised to find the waitress rude and couldn’t care less. Very disappointing as we had Brett the week before and he was friendly and gave us great service. Would think twice about going back if the same girl was there!

We left the place half a hour ago. It was cold on the barge without any shelter from the wind. We thought we were going to stay inside. There was only a staff leaning back against the counter busy with his cell phone. We thought he was a badly dressed customer when we arrived. He was dressed like a boy racer. To move to the dining area and sit on a long bench was a hazard. No bread, salad and cutlery available.
He set up a bit of Moreton bay bugs and prawns out on a plate with his bare hands. No gloves at all.
If we had are gone to a fish shop and purchased that seafood, taken home and eat it would have been the same, actually better as we would have been warm also without having to listen to the cheap red neck rock and roll music that was going flat out.
A meal and location to forget in a hurry!

Visited in September 2022. You should read their website before you book. $20 per person required when booking online.
Pluses:
Nice relaxed ambiance. You sit on decks on one of two boats, or on the pontoon between.
The oysters and prawns were delicious. I didn’t think the salmon had much taste. Our sharing plate for two ($100) also included prawns, bugs etc, there was so much I doubt if we ate 2/3rds of it, but we have European appetites.
Minuses:
Seafood is all they serve. If you want side dishes, a bread roll, bring your own. Chips, starter, dessert - go whistle. As it says on their website.
We booked for 7.30pm. Food and drinks arrived about 8pm. They had forgotten the drinks we ordered but gave us larger glasses by apology. At 8.30pm they brought us our bill unasked and said they were closing now!
Drinks: Very little to choose from. For example, red wine: you could buy a bottle, no choice, you cannot buy red wine by the glass.
