Another happy experience at New Farm Deli! Excellent coffee awaits you as well as all the other choice items on their extensive & authentic Italian menu. But if this is not enough for you, their deli & wait staff are professional & slick, with a cheery welcome & warm attitude. Special thank you today to Vince (one of the owners) for personally organising a spaghetti marinara takeaway when I casually mentioned I was taking it to a sick patient in hospital. He jumped up from his table like a gazelle, limped into the kitchen with his sore leg, giving the chefs their instruction! 10 minutes later, he appeared beaming, hand outstretched with said meal, sending the patient his best regards. Typical of the warm, generous hands-on approach of this establishment! Something I have witnessed time after time in my 25 years of visiting this Brisbane favourite. My sincere thanks to Vince, Maria & dedicated staff of New Farm Deli!

It is recommended by a local resident here. When I arrived the restaurant without booking, I found that there are a few persons queuing up. After waiting for a few minutes, a staff said that he could put me on the waiting list, with 2 tables before me, and estimated the waiting time to be 10 minutes. I wait for less than 15 minutes and got the table. Thanks for the help.
The serving staff (a young lady) who is very nice to recommend the food and answer our questions as I am not too familiar with the Italian food. The food and the coffee are excellent. See the pictures - they look and taste good.
Highly recommended. Next time, I will try to reserve a table before my visit.

Friday for lunch, we ( well my wife Sue) shop at the deli often it is a delight of quality, always busy in the hub of New Farm Village a very pleasant walk from home.
Seated pleasantly, quickly outside amidst the passing parade. I made a reservation several weeks previous and we were rewarded with an excellent table. The service was very good a young lady from Padua, this is a busy high turnover venue but we were never rushed. Food was also very good, a small problem with wine was quickly rectified.
The owners Maria and Vince describe (on their site, I have not meet them) the deli cafe as familial and it is exactly that an amazing warmth pervades. In our experience that was in the form of Sebastion but also other staff. Sebastion exhibits a casual professional charm that ensures all is well on his watch, this is rare style, recognised and appreciated.
We will certainly return. Molte grazie

I had booked a table from 12pm to 1.30pm for lunch with 2 friends. We all had The Great Italian Panini which was barely toasted even though we requested them to be toasted, They also had very little filling. One friend is gluten intolerant and was advised they could do the the panini on gluten free bread. The gluten free option was two small pieces of bread slapped on a plate with hardly any filling and not even cut in half. After our lack lustre meal we ordered coffee and while waiting were asked by staff a couple of times if we had finished as they had another booking. It was only 1pm. Coffees came and staff were continuing to push us to leave for the next booking. It was still only 1.15p.m. If you can only book for 1 1/2 hours at least let people stay and not be continually harassed to leave before they have barely finished coffee. I have experienced this before and will not return to New Farm Deli.

I have been enjoying coffee, breakfast, lunch and buying Italian produce from this establishment since 1981. Today I visited for coffee and cheesecake, and I must say the greeting I received was anything but welcoming. I was told by the daughter of the owners that she had to deal with the customers outside in the line and in future I should wait there also. Unfortunately, I had entered via the delicatessen door, where I selected produce to buy after my brief coffee stop. I would like to point out that there is no signage at the deli door indicating that should I want coffee etc, that the line is around the corner. After 43 years of supporting this establishment, I am disappointed with the attitude of the hostess towards her customers. The other staff offer polite and curtious service which is greatly appreciated, however, today’s visit certainly did nothing to endear this establishment to me should I be looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the offerings.

Hi David,
We value all feedback, however, being a long-time client of our establishment and knowing the owners well, it’s disappointing that instead of seeking Vince or Maria out and giving them this feedback, you resort to this platform to vent.
We are sorry that you missed the signage advising deli shoppers (that if intending to dine-in, please line up at cafe entrance) is strategically placed in the walkway (on a brass stand) in deli where the cafe starts.
We are also sorry of the bluntness the door host may have displayed; please understand how difficult and stressful it is for anyone trying to accommodate and appease a queue of people all hot, hungry and wanting a table. And while they may not say anything to someone who they may believe is jumping ahead of them, some of them would certainly have a lot to unload on the staff if you were to jump that queue.
…So please understand the difficulties in trying to do (what might seem a simple job) as best they (the floor host) possibly and humanly can.
We’d love to have you return and perhaps to chat about this more over a coffee as we’d want nothing more than for you to remain a regular, treasured customer.

We bought 4 carbonara dishes to take home for dinner, it was the worst carbonara we’ve ever had, our bowl was full of oil and just a huge disappointment for $14 a meal. Will not buy ready made meals again from this over priced, zero flavoured meals sold by this establishment. Lean cuisine do a better meal!!!

Have to say the pasta was fabulously buonissima, comme sempre ma - Be warned - Whatever you do don't accept a table on "the island" section of the outdoor seating area, located between the parking bays and the street exit. We were seated on the end and it was unbearable - absolutely boiling and exposed to the midday sun. Repeated requests from the waiter to move were ignored and after two requests to the manager we were finally moved, but not until I left, preferring to do my Christmas shopping at the supermarket then broil in the sun. Surely the deli are making enough money without losing customers by placing them here! As former reviewers were, we were also told off for entering via the deli (which my husband wanted to show my son), and when I complained was brusquely told it was my fault for asking for a table outside. Non ho chiesto un tavolo al fresco (in jail) although the cold would have been welcome. So disappointed today with what has always been our favourite go to restaurant. I understand that it was exceptionally busy but no excuse for the arrogant and very average service, when it has always been very welcoming. Thank you for finally moving us but was an absolute disgraziato from the beginning. I've been coming to New Farm Deli since it was a little deli in the 80s and couldn't wait to show my family who came up from Sydney. We were reseated, quickly ate and left, spoiled what we were sure would have been a wonderful afternoon.

Don’t go there!!!! We were seated outside and while there was an overhead fan it was 34 C that day. We asked for water, the wait staff poured us each a small glass and attempted to leave taking the water carafe with her. She left it at my request however within 10 minutes another wait staff arrived at our table, picked up the decanter, poured us each another small glass of water and refused to leave the decanter saying they weren’t allowed to and she would be around to refill when we needed. You can guess the rest!!! I ordered a pasta dish with an olive sauce, there were stones still in the olives. NOT RECOMMENDED

Good Morning
I get that the weather being 34c getting the better of many of us, however reviewing us because the waiter 'wasnt allowed' to leave their water 'carafe' on your table but would only come past to refill your 'small' glasses??
Our waiters walk around with the water jug to fill and refill all diners' glasses - It's not meant to be left on the table, its meant to be walked around to service all tables in that section.
As for the 'pasta dish with olive sauce': I assume that you ordered the Puttanesca Pasta which is made with a tomato-based sauce, chilli, capers, anchovies and olives. We serve our clients authentic Italian cuisine prepared by chefs with a purist approach to Italian cooking insisting on absolute adherence to traditional cooking and when preparing plates such as Puttanesca, olives are cooked in the dish 'whole' (with the pit). This not a faux pas its the way the dish is meant to be prepared and served by Italian-trained chefs.
We hope you change your mind about our establishment and visit again to give it another chance because we believe our staff to outstanding, working extremely hard to supply the best possible service to all who visit.

I ordered Roast Vegetable Lasagne from the Christmas catering menu. It is not a Roast Vegetable Lasagne. The vegetables are lots of zucchini and some mushrooms. Not any roast vegetables. I had bought one earlier in the week and when I went in today to pick up the lasagnes I ordered for Christmas Lunch tomorrow I complained. The owner said they put in vegetables in season. How silly. Doesn’t she know sweet potato and pumpkin are in season and can be roasted. I asked why call it roast vegetable lasagne as it is not and is misleading. Don’t trust you will get what you ordered. Check and ask questions and then you may not order. Then you won’t be disappointed.

A traditional Italian lasagne is made using ground beef ragu, pasta sheets, mozzarella, and parmigiano….. As an alternative NFDC make a vegetarian version using roasted pumpkin, zucchini and mushrooms, Napoli sauce, pasta sheets, mozzarella and parmigiano cheese - This is OUR interpretation of a vegetarian lasagne which we call a Roast Vegetable Lasagne. It’s a popular item with our clients and until now, have not had a complaint
‘Silly’ they are not as after 45 years in food, the Anello family know (Italian) cuisine inside out offering the best possible in quality and authenticity.
With all due respect: The ‘silly’ in all of this is that you’d like to change NFDC’s vege lasagne recipe because you prefer potatoes etc in your lasagne.
You took home a lasagna earlier in the week and after consuming it, phoned to ask if the two other veg lasagne that you had on order for pick up on Christmas Eve would be the same (with only the three vegetables) and you were told yes. You knew it would be the same yet you did not cancel the order - you willingly accepted to proceed with the order only to arrive at pick-up (on Christmas Eve), quiz the staff again about what vegetables you would find in your lasagne, cancelled half the order, (even though it had been cooked for you), tell the owner you were ‘angry’ and left with only one lasagne!
We remember it well as it was not the most pleasant 5 minutes of a very busy day for us - believe it or not, these ‘minutes’ stay with us for a long time
Happy Christmas
NFDC family
The owners and staff of NFDC work very hard at providing the best possible service, to try please all customers, try very hard at fulfilling all their wishes and to treat them with the utmost respect. We are very fortunate that we receive this back from our amazing clientele.
Its also most important that while we are on a public forum (such as this) let’s all be aware that nobody knows what others might be feeling or going through, so let’s always be kind and thoughtful towards one another 🙏

Came here with such high expectations. The service 10/10. The ambience 10/10. However the food on the day was so disappointing. We ordered a Hero panini and a Harriet panini. On both there was a severe lack in the amount of filling. There was only one layer of meat on both of them and a small amount of the other fillings , no Mayo and no sun-dried tomato at all. 2/10 for the food on the day. However theTiramisu was tasty 9/10

I had walked past/through the alfresco eating area many times and never really gave a thought to stopping and eating a meal here. A family member made a booking for lunch ,and the food is superb and the wine list very good. The only down side is that there's a busy thoroughfare between the actual deli and the tables. if you can ask for one of the tables furthest from the constant passing parade of people.

We eat brunch in several different restaurants in the Brisbane suburbs. The food at NFD is pretty good, and service can be slow. But we will never return because when we asked for more hot water in the tea pot (not tea, just hot water), we were charged $3.50. I asked for the manager, politely explained that we always had extra hot water in all cafes, and was told that the extra charge is their policy. I paid, told him politely that we would never return. Vue Cafe is 100 yards away, equally good food, better service from nicer waiting staff, and they don’t charge $3.50 for hot water!

Thank you for your review Paul,
Our tea is made using fine-quality loose leaf (not teabag tea) and served in a pot for one (which will give you two cups of tea). While we will serve extra hot water if tea is too strong and provide extra milk if needed, we do not do top-ups - We’re sad to hear that you’re never returning to our establishment due to our non-bottomless-pots-of-tea policy.
We pride ourselves on our quality of food, service and of our staff and it’s somewhat disappointing (that because staff were following the house policy), you think they were not nice.
We appreciate your feedback and respect your decision to frequent Vue in future. Vue is indeed a great cafe and with equally nice staff.

We were keen to head there for breakfast and rocked up at 8am (a one hour drive for us to get there) as we know it gets busy. And busy it was. The food was a usual menu for breakfast - eggs, bacon and so on. I tried their spicy lamb mince (with poached egg and Turkish bread) and it was really delicious. Given it is a deli, the bacon and cold meats served with the meals were spot on. It was a hot Brisbane morning and instead of coffees we opted for smoothies - a mixed berry one and a coffee, cacao and oats blend which was really nice. The staff try to keep up with the food orders and a little patience is needed, as is waiting in the queue for a table. We ate outside under a fan and then entered into the Alladin's cavern in the deli. So much to choose from. the cheeses, cold meats, frozen goods, pastas and cakes were just amazing if not a little expensive. But quality comes at a price.I wanted one of everything! We left with some goodies for afternoon tea as well as some cheese. Parking was ok for the hour we arrived, but it was pretty difficult for people trying to find a park around 10ish.

A couple of recent visits following 6 years away from Brisbane. New Farm Deli was always on the “go to” list but it has gone from strength to strength.
Lunches have been great and dropping in for cake and coffees excellent.
Meats, cheeses and other delicacies including oils and vinegars are available to purchase.
A treasure trove of everything Italian!

Called in for a morning coffee. As usual, service was prompt and relaxed.
The Ricotta Cheese and Pear Cake was excellent; the Ham and Cheese Croissant was very moorish with excellent fresh ham.
Good coffee topped off an indulgent interlude.
