Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Il Verde is an Italian Restaurant at the Fortitude Valley end of King Street, Bowen Hills in Brisbane that is well worth visiting for lunch. It is one of several restaurants in this modern “Eat Street” at Bowen Hills. King Street is a newly created...street in the Royal National Show complex off Gregory Terrace. It is contemporary and lively and is a real favourite with the locals and visitors to Brisbane looking for novel places to eat and be entertained. I have recently made a number of visits to il Verde for lunch either by myself, or with my wife or my two sons after enjoying an hour of delightful music at the quarterly ‘Music in the Old Museum’ concerts, performed by soloists from the Queensland Youth Orchestra (QYO) in the Old Museum Building in Gregory Terrace ( established 1891). Il Verde is the perfect lunch spot just a leisurely 8 minutes walk from the Old Museum building and also 8 minutes walk from Fortitude Valley Railway Station. It has fast become one of my favourite Italian Restaurants in Brisbane – and there are many good ones to chose from, all over the city. The restaurant is quite informal with both interior and outside dining options. Dining in the covered area outside allows you to watch the world go by, while enjoying fine Italian fare. The outdoor dining area walls sport fancy slates and open spaces to protect patrons from the sun and to let the outside air in. On every visit I have made here, I have been greeted by friendly and attentive staff and the meals have been well priced. My last visit here was with my eldest son in December 2023 after one of the Music in the Old Museum concerts and we enjoyed a very nice lunch. To kick start the experience we shared a very tasty entrée - Bruschetta Focaccia (Wood fired focaccia with freshly diced tomatoes, garlic, basil, oragano and extra virgin olive oil. This was nicely presented on a plate on a raised table platform for ease in sharing. For mains my son chose their Spaghetti Bolognese which he enjoyed and I had a superb dish – Pollo Al Forno ( deboned chicken marinated in orange peel, garlic and rosemary, wood fired and served on a mashed potato base – fabulous! On this occasion I even ventured further with a refreshing dessert of lemon flavoured gelato with its sweet and sour sensation. My meal was complimented with a glass of Lorsenzo Manfredi Chianti Terra Dei Tushi Docg – a pleasant red wine from Central Italy, one of many interesting wine selections from their wine list. For our December 2023 visit we were entertained by a charming busker lady on guitar who played many tunes from outside the restaurant. Apparently she does the rounds of all the restaurants in King Street over time and we were just lucky that on this day she was performing outside il Verde. Another stand out entree from a previous visit was their Focaccia Al Formaggio (thin wood fired bread with thinly sliced garlic, butter and mozzarella cheese – again served on a plate on a raised table platform for easy sharing. Two other stand out main courses I have tried here and thoroughly enjoyed have been their Gnocchi Gorganzola – wow! It consisted of gnocchi, speck (cured pork product); Gorganzola cheese, cream and walnuts and Orecchiette Con Salsiccia & Taleggio ( short pasta, home made Italian sausage, creamy taleggio sauce and crispy pancetta (salt-cured pork belly meat) – magnifical. Witnessing some of Queensland’s finest young music talent on show at the Old Museum then following this up with some fine Italian fare at il Verde are certainly two irresistible sensations to enjoy and to savour. I expect to be frequenting this restaurant often in the future because of its informality and excellent Italian food. I also wholeheartedly recommend it to others.More

I had a very nice lunch here. Stylish decor, laid back atmosphere, friendly service, fair prices. The linguine frutti di mare was very good - nice juicy prawns etc in a tomato sauce. Gelati was good. Recommended

We caught up with friends from North Queensland and this was the perfect venue as they were staying close to the hospital. We received a warm welcome and the food was delicious. While our seating was 6:00 to 7:30, we were afforded a little longer...as it was a Monday night. We tried the polenta fritta, which was cooked perfectly. The truffle aioli was delicious. For mains we all tried something different. The bolognese, carbonara and orecchiette were flavoursome and the servings generous. Leftovers were boxed for us to take home. The staff were attentive and everything flowed really well. We will definitely look at going again.More

Had a lovely lunch here! Service was very friendly and quick. We all enjoyed our meals. I can recommend the Orecchiette dish with Italian sausage and the pizza was bursting with fresh ingredients. Il Verde is in a great location if you want to continue...on for an afternoon or night out.More

Exceptional pizza, simply some of the best you can get in Australia. Wood fired oven gives the crust a bubbled finish and the sauce is fresh.

We were so looking forward to traditional Italian dishes, we were sadly disappointed. The texture of the Risotto was like soup. The home made Gnocchi you could taste the flour. The Calamari too oily. All this could have been avoided if the chef didn’t rush...the dished. Few more cooking time with the Risotto, let the Gnocchi come to the surface to allow the flour to cook, the Calamari drained on paper before placing it on the plate. Dry basic cooking mistakes.More

It has been sometime since I had such good service, especially dining alone, I often feel ignored. Varied menu with lots of pizza as well as traditional Italian dishes. Delicious spaghetti with perfectly cooked prawns in a lovely sauce. A popular place, I suggest booking...if going a peak times.More

We had a range of food amongst us - Pizza, Gnocchi, spaghetti and Chicken mains. Each enjoyed their own very much. A good vibe and spacious booths, friendly staff. Will we return? Yes, next week with the family.

I was very disappointed with the food here: my pasta, Linguine Frutti Di Mare, was nothing special. I could have done better with the sauce. And the pasta was over cooked; not al dente. My husband thought his Pork Belly was good though.

My husband and I will be coming back. Il Verde: a fabulous place to relax, converse with friends, and bring the kids for authentic Italian/Mediterranean food -- is what we thought all the way through. Whilst the atmosphere mixed eccentric and luxurious treats, the cadence...of Il Verde was lively. In furtherance, our favourite dish was the polenta chips & dip; an especially heartwarming appetizer to begin the night! I do personally recommend the gnocchi as well -- it's vegan too!More

Second time here. We ordered our entree first before choosing our main meals. From the time the order was placed it arrived no more than 2 minutes later and I’m being generous with the time. Aracini balls were tasty but not crisp as they had...been sitting under the warming lights. We then ordered our mains and they arrived 5 minutes later - again I’m being generous with the time. Food was average and delivered at the speed of lightening with not a great deal of love from the chefs in the kitchen. We won’t return.More

Food was absolutely delicious!!! Pitty the service wasn’t. We were told numerous times that the waitress could take either our drinks order or our food - seems like there was only one that could which created lengthy and frustrating delays. Especially when we could see...she was focusing more on the pickup and Uber eats over the customers in the restaurant.More
