This restaurant in the Parap Shopping Village turned out to be a bit of a surprise. The teppanyaki set was generous for $75, especially if you picked scallops which were huge - we each got 8 HUGE scallops. You can pick three proteins, and the meal comes with a small entree, miso soup and dessert. Steak was tender and threadfin salmon was nice cooked. Prawns were a little overcooked. The tempura cheesecake is a weird dessert, but it was OK. If you don't like to interact with your chef, don't come here. It's all in good fun, with bowls and egg being thrown in your direction and lots of jokes that will make you groan. We walked passed here the next night and heard the same joke being repeated. You've been warned!

My family of four, including two teenage boys recently dined here for the tepanyaki dinner experience. The night overall was super fun and the chef was animated, funny and certainly kept us on our toes with flying (fried) rice, dinner bowls and pieces of egg. The kids had an absolute ball watching the meal being cooked and all the jokes the chef made. The food itself was nice - I wouldn't say it is gourmet or anything, but it was well cooked, seasoned and certainly very palatable. The cost isn't cheap, however, if you consider that it is dinner AND a show, then its not too bad. We also partook in karaoke at the end, re-confirming that my family and I will not be auditioning for the voice anytime soon. My only real criticism of the evening was that there were no forks - the option was chopsticks or spoons. For eating the green salad I think a fork would have been the utensil of choice. Aside from this, I'm glad we went and had this dining experience all together.

I went to the restaurant with a friend in a hope to get a different dining experience and maybe that's a mistake. We should've come with a group of friends so there'll actually a reason to be jolly. The menu is, shall we say, basic, and the 'traditional Japanese a-la-carte menu' left me feel like meeting a tinder date who looked so different in person. The only saving grace is the performance. Oh my gosh, so exhilarating! The chef cooked their cuisine the way Eric Clapton plays his guitar. Started gentle and slow, seducing you with the smell of delicious Asian cuisine, and finished strong as he threw that piece of beef to my bowl. Wow! Just don't ask him to sing. Gave me a headache.

Booked for Al-a-carte. Really looking forward to trying out our favourite dishes - gyoza, tempura, sashimi mains etc. in Darwin. Big dinner. Restaurant contacted us to move dinner time forward 30 mins. No worries. Arrived, shown to seat at Teppanyaki table. Given Teppanyaki menu. None of our favourites, price shockingly high, $5 to add on sashimi.....wanted the $35 dish but not on top of unwanted teppanyaki. No Al-a-carte available. Walked out. Mexican restaurant, close by, was excellent. Could choose our own dishes!

In Darwin for a holiday and found this gem of a restaurant. Food was exceptional and the two Teppanyaki chefs on that night were extremely entertaining and very funny. Although we were there as a couple the environment soon had us enjoying the antics and interactions with the chefs. The manager/owner was also very helpful, attentive and obviously wanted everyone to have a great time. If you want a quiet romantic night it may not be the place for you, but on the other hand if you want to laugh, enjoy great food and sake I highly recommend it. Might pay to book as the locals obviously already know how good this place is.

Maybe we came here with higher expectations after being recommended to try this place, but the whole experience was disappointing. Our food order was completely wrong when it arrived the first time (not sure if they got confused with another table but they still put it all down on the table, then took it all away and was then served to another table) you know, it happens but it was dealt with really poorly. When our correct food arrived after much delay it really wasn't worth the wait or money spent, overcooked, oily and tasteless. I felt for the waitress honestly because she looked super embarrassed and I feel maybe a supervisor or manager should have come out to the table after we complained? No apologies or anything even on our way out. The place didn't look too clean, toilets are awful and they were out of stock of a few (lots of) things (again it happens, but make the customer aware at the beginning so we dont try and order them) drinks also took forever to arrive even though it didn't appear to busy In short, we will never return or reccomend to anybody

We cannot recommend Oka highly enough! Fantastic food as well as a fantastic show by the chef not to mention the charismatic and incredibly attentive wait staff. We both ordered the $75 menu and chose a mix of meat and seafood. Portion size was much bigger then we were anticipating based on other teppanyaki restaurants that we have been to and all the food was absolutely delicious! We absolutely loved our night at Oka and can’t wait to go back! Highly highly recommend!

I have nothing to compare it to as it was my first Teppanyaki experience. My son often goes there and he likes it, but he also doesn't have another one to compare it to. We started off with a young guy as our chef (name escapes me sorry). Friendly, entertaining and he was joined by an older gentleman when things got busy. I found the Duck to be of poor quality to be honest, and I have eaten Duck numerous times. It was tough & grisly, but my scallops were yummy. The rice was dry unfortunately. My sons Wagu was delicious. We also had the deep fried cheesecake and both liked that. My son had a good chat with an older gentleman (possibly owner?), which he enjoyed about the Saki, which he likes. I took the 2 points off for the duck, rice & it is costly. But that might be a standard price for a Teppanyaki 'show'. Thanks to staff, were you all lovely.

This is a hidden gem, away from the city. We have walked past in the day many times but not ventured further, until one day I overheard a friend talking about a dining experience with a difference! We booked for my husband’s birthday, never great at gift buying I thought it best I give him a ‘culinary experience’ he would not forget. We were not disappointed. From the outset it is clear these guys know the importance of customer service and entertainment. I spoke to them in advance to explain the birthday celebration. It is a blast from the start. The laughter began at the door and didn’t stop until the end of the evening. This is delicious mouth-watering Japanese food served with a twist, I just hope you can catch! We have never experienced a teppanyaki restaurant before and the entertainment from the chefs while they cook is superb. The chefs and the owner are not only brilliant at cooking but can multi task, and are hilarious. The banter does not stop throughout the meal. The chef’s cheeky style is infectious, and he leaves no one out. His culinary skill should not be underestimated either, the steak we chose was so tender it melted in our mouths and so tasty….and plenty of it. The prawns were huge and so meaty, the sushi so fresh and the fish so beautifully cooked. This is not for those that like a quiet dining experience, this is a place for you if you like to have an experience as well as a meal. Food is thrown, karaoke Is sung, and laughter is loud.

Staffs were friendly and nice service. I even saw people singing karaoke there. Good restaurant to go in NT. Teppanyki chef was very funny and professional but suitable for kids more than 5 years old I think.

We were disappointed with our experience. We were sat at a teppanyaki table despite booking a la carte. Service was pretty ordinary and the ambience, food quality and cleanliness did not meet expectations. 2 dishes we ordered were not available which was disappointing. The mixed tempura was very poor quality. Prawns coated in heavy batter and cooked in dirty oil. We left most of the dish as it wasn’t pleasant to eat. The beef sukiyaki was the saviour. It was delicious and a very generous serve. The restaurant seems to thrive on the teppanyaki experience which might be fun for some but didn’t appeal to us. It does not seem good value or an authentic quality experience compared to other Japanese teppanyaki restaurants we have dined at. Disappointing.

The first thing you notice is the voice of the bbq chefs talking and interacting with the customers. A great fun time with food and plates being thrown around and the occasional dropped catch. A good selection of meats and meals and reasonably priced. Good flavours and friendly staff.

We went in for an unplanned lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome by the owner. It was a late lunch for us and there were only a few others there. The owner explained and discussed our choices and also the sake tasting we took part in. The food was glorious. Eel was some of the best we had tried and the Wafu steak melted in our mouths. The portion sizes were generous and after finishing our sake we left contented and waddled back to our apartment to digest. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves flavours and quality produce.

We visited here for my husband's birthday. we chose to have a la carte rather than join in on the teppanyaki tables. We prefer traditional Japanese. We booked our table for 6.00pm and arrived on time and we were given our table. There are two teppanyaki tables that probably hold about 30 people each and they had a lot of fun but we were more than happy with our choice, we chose 7 dishes and every one of them was excellent. We will probably return here before we leave Darwin.

WOW! We (3 people) arrived around 9:45 on a Tuesday night hoping we weren’t too late to get a meal. The sign on the door said closed but there were a few people inside and the owner waved us inside. There was a bit of a party happening and if we didn’t mind then they were happy to serve us. So glad we did. The food was AMAZING we ordered tuna nigiri, salmon sashimi, agadashi tofu, mixed tempura, prawn gyoza and edamame. Everything was delicious particularly the sushi. The staff were so very friendly and accommodating. Really lovely food, fantastic friendly service - do yourself a favour and try it out!!
