We dropped in for lunch and were shown a table. The waitress was polite and welcoming. We looked over the menu and were a little taken back about the limited meals available. The wine list was huge with a basic listing of beers. We ordered the prawn and papaya salad and the beef burger. Drinks were pricey but expected. We were told that our meals would be up to 1/2 an hour without any real reason.... the restaurant was not that busy, so we were a little unsure as to why there would be such a delay. Once the meals arrived, the burger was nice, but the prawn and papaya salad lacked life... no herbs (coriander, mint), no chilli, and the dressing lacked any taste. The salad stated peanuts but got flaked almonds? Just would have thought that in such a tourist destination, the meals would have lived up to the hype about the resort.

For a captive market, the lobby bar’s menu isn’t actually too extortionately priced, the service is pretty efficient and the menu is reasonably varied with more than just the obligatory club sandwich! We dined twice there and there was enough to choose from. The beef burger was incredibly tasty and juicy and the sauce on the grilled swordfish with veg was better than the norm i.e. not just bland ‘bar foody’ flavours. The reality is that it IS just bar food though, and you can’t expect the world, but it did seem a bit odd to us, in such a location, that there was really nothing that was a fun ‘Australian themed’ gimmick dish for the visitors (international and local alike)…. say a burger or steak of buffalo, camel, kangaroo etc etc.

We had our first lunch at Walpa bar which is based in the lobby of Sails Resort. We felt a little lost walking in as no staff greeted us, directed us to a table etc. So we chose a table ourselves and then I found someone to ask if I could get a high chair and order lunch. The menu has a good variety classics and then a few choices with bush influences. There is a kids menu but at $17 we chose to let our one year old eat from out plates. We had the spiced calamari, barramundi fish and chips and a burger. The food was delicious and staff were more attentive once it arrived, checking if everything was ok. I think there would be less confusion if there was a server to greet you or just a sign at the entrance saying 'take a seat'.

Shockingly bad experience. We arrived after a bus trip to Uluru and were promptly seated by a very polite lady who informed us that or server would be around shortly. Half an hour later we had to attract the attention of a server and ask for water and to have our order taken. The order for food and drinks was taken and another 15 minutes passed before the drinks arrived. A further 45 minutes went by and still no food by which time we’d had enough. We cancelled the food order and went to pay for the drinks. We expressed our dismay to the person behind the bar who appeared to have some sort of authority. To her credit, she apologised and did not charge us for the drinks, however she did not seem overly concerned. We could see others around us becoming frustrated with the poor service too. Previous reviews have indicated that this is a reasonable eatery, perhaps it was just a bad night. The restaurant seemed busy so I just don’t know if the issue was down to lack of front-of-house staff or the kitchen just couldn’t cope…! Note - we both ordered curry of the day so I can’t understand why this wasn’t almost immediately available. To add insult to injury a couple at the next table who were seated after we placed our order were served with their food.

Dear Neil, We are deeply sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with us. We truly apologise for the long delays in both service and food delivery, and we completely understand your frustration. This is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations during your visit. We sincerely appreciate your understanding that sometimes busy periods can lead to challenges, but we recognize that this should never affect the quality of service or the timely delivery of food. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will be looking into the situation closely to ensure this does not happen again. Once again, our deepest apologies for the inconvenience caused. Best regards,

Beautiful location in the lobby area of the Sails in the Desert resort( our accommodation). We thought we'd have lunch here. We ordered at the register as there was no table service and we waited and waited so we asked, told its coming and we waited again and asked again. It finally arrived over 1 hour later and it wasn't busy at all. It sadly was also inedible cold fries and toasted sandwich also stone cold. We found staff very inexperienced and wearing the dirtiest apron, which she had on the next day. So dissapointing. Please let management know if you have these issues otherwise nothing will improve.

The atmosphere was excellent, and the staff provided fantastic service. However, the food did not meet expectations. The swordfish was unfortunately inedible, with a strong, unpleasant odor and a dry texture. The gnocchi, while passable, were somewhat bland. We ended up eating it only because we were quite hungry. On a positive note, the staff handled the situation professionally and with great courtesy. It's a shame for such a nice hotel to have a menu not to standard.

Came here for a light lunch. We shared the ancient grains salad and the papaya prawn salad. The prawn salad had very little flavor, but the ancient grains salad was very good. We arrived early afternoon so the place was very quiet. Service was very good.

It has its good and bad points. It’s a nice spot to sit. Most of the staff are absolutely lovely and they work hard but with variable skill sets. The food options are very limited though and because of that the tiny number of healthy dishes start to become alarmingly repetitive very quickly, a real worry in this day and age. I think things are stuck a bit in the late 1990s early 2000s and the menu in particular needs a shake up urgently. The drink options are pretty good. Everything is expensive but you expect that this far away from major cities.

The food here is amazing, I had the best mushroom gnocchi I have ever tasted. We had a few visits to this restaurant so I also had the bush honey macadamia mouse & on another visit the finger lime mousse, everything was absolutely delicious. My husband had the Illawarra chocolate mousse & he said it was delicious as well. Again amazing staff at this lovely resort.

Ate here whilst staying at the hotel and had the “curry of the day”, which was Chicken Tikka Masala. Good portion size, not overly huge and not like the red coloured meal you would receive in the UK. It was tasty and the addition of the lime pickle, raita and popadoms was good. Two drinks include and the total came to £40, which we felt was okay prices for a hotel with a captive audience.

Whilst in Ularra for my third visit I went to the Sails in the Sands hotel for a glass of wine and an aperitif. After being seated I perused the menu, closed it and waited 20 minutes for service. I left. We don't treat International travellers this poorly, I hope.....

Not all restaurants are open (thanks to Covid I'm sure) so this bar is most welcome. Cocktails and great snacks (native ingredients) but service can be a bit hit & miss. Staff not sure what they're doing - again, could be a Covid thing. Anyway, great location, and people watching :)

I had the chicken club sandwich on the day I arrived while I waited for my room to be ready. It came out quickly, and was delicious. The chips were crispy and hot, the aioli perfect and so much chicken in the sandwich. Staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Pricing similar to my local cafes at home.

We had both tapas dinner and coffee and desserts here. Highly recommend the Wattle seed Mille Feuille and Lemon Meringue éclair. They were so delicious, we came back a second time and ordered the same delicious delights again.

We were based at Emu Walk Apartments for a few days, but treated ourselves to an enjoyable lunch at the stylish Walpa Lobby bar mid-stay. Very attentive service and enticing menu options from snacks through more substantial meals. I opted for the lamb curry special, while my wife chose the sunburst salad with quinoa fritters. Good range of drinks on offer too, making a call into Sails in the Desert a worthwhile experience.
