Malabar is simply a top-notch restaurant! It is conveniently located on Victoria Street, a two-minute walk from Kings Cross Trainstation, allowing you to easily access it on your way home or if you’re on your way to a big night out in the Cross. Prices are very friendly to the wallet, and the food satisfies all hunger, small or big. This is the place to go when you’re looking for that special meal that is just right!

The South Indian food at Malabar is simply superb and the decor is lovely, with many beautiful old Indian photos and prints adorning the walls. I could have happily spent ages looking at them all closely. You are really transported to India. Service was efficient for our large group and the owner was charming. I'd also ordered a big take-away birthday meal in May from Malabar and again everything was perfect, from the food to prompt delivery to the helpful and charming owner. Strongly recommended for dine-in or takeaway.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Sydney. I have visited a few times and have never been disappointed. I usually have the dosai as they're hard to find in Sydney, at least as good as these ones. All of the entrees are delicious. But next time I'm going for the lunchtime Thali. They have an excellent drinks menu at reasonable Sydney prices. The service is exemplary, the staff are so very obliging and the incredible aroma of the food as you enter this place is an experience in itself. Make sure you book as everytime I've been here on a weeknight it is packed...a great sign!

We took a seafood banquet. Starters were amazing but mains were not that great. If the first serve of fish was matching the starters the lam and other sides were overcooked. The second serve of fish was spongy and chewy. Service and venue were great but after such a good start it didn’t compensate the average quality of our mains.

Several locals had recommended this to us and we were not disappointed. The service is great and we enjoyed some poppodums with relish etc as a starter; mains were all South Indian and extremely good, I had the dosai with spicy prawns, another in our group had the same but with curried potato, all in all a good rival for some of our favourite restaurants in Tooting London which are very authentic. The Chicken Chettinad was excellent too, in fact everything was.

Situated in the colourful area right by Kings Cross we have been to The Malabar on all of our visits to Sydney and never been let down. Look out for the iconic Coca Cola sign! On this occasion we sampled their lunchtime special which was an amazing mix of flavours and textures. The Service is always charming and the ambiance excellent. Whilst Tourists seek out The Malabar we get the impression that this is used by locals a lot which, if true, is a good indication of how good it is. It’s also reasonably good value too. The key thing is it’s authenticity which having experienced Indian Food across a few continents can’t be said of many we’ve been to! Would highly recommend.

I am so glad I tried this place out! The shrimp appetizer was perfectly peppered and went so well with my Bombay Gin and pepper cocktail and the pepper spiced lamb dish. I also had the fish curry with the Naan that had cashews in it! The basmati rice was so good and didn't give me heartburn like most basmati rice does. The room was crowded but the sound proof ceilings kept the noise level down. I highly recommend giving this place a try, they have an excellent vegetarian menu as well.

We booked this restaurant as it is close to the Griffin theatre The food is very good The waiter was very pleasant but had a lot of trouble understanding our order and we mostly ordered the special to make it as quick as we could . One person stated that she would have two entrees as her meal and this came before the rest of the meals. Another who did not order the special meal came 10 minutes after the rest .

Visited Sydney from overseas, craving a good Indian restaurant that had vegan options, Malabar didn't disappoint.. Lots of choices, always enjoy a restaurant that has a separate menu for us vegans.. The vegan butter chicken was incredible, recommend trying that!!!

Atmosphere was good, service good, very welcoming, smell was good, food was very good. Overall there was a strong sense of not being ‘just another indian’ with a distinct regional twist. We had goat curry with bones in (no problem) which was great, baby eggplant with potato was great, chana dhal with pumpkin good and goanese fish curry - not sure what kind of fish, okay but not my favourite. Not as chili hot as I expected. Serve sizes looked small on website but were generous in reality. Flaky flatbread (forget name) was great. Overall a really nice place for a curry. We had a new zealand pinot at $60 and four curries with naan, plus the flaky one and two serves rice for $240 total. I would go again.

What a gem in Sydney. Worth the short trip out of the CBD. Beautifully decorated Indian restaurant. White linen table cloths and napkins, wall art reflecting the Indian heritage. We were welcomed promptly and shown to our table. Water was poured, drinks order taken and menus left with us. Order was quickly taken. Meals came out in reasonable time and each course / meal we had was of excellent quality. I would especially recommend their signature dish. The mains were flavoursome, piping hot and the garlic nan was amazing. Soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. The desert platter was amazing and the three deserts tasted even better when combined. Drinks list is decent particularly for a BYO and the prices were very reasonable. We are going back on Christmas Eve and recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Indian food.

The food here is of a great quality, with lots of choice of delicious South Indian dishes. The service is friendly and attentive and the ambience is good. The prices are a bit higher than expected, but this is due to the quality.
