Such a busy little place that it a requires a waiting list, and also provides the option to share tables with other diners if you wish.
Fortunately, on a Tuesday night, they had a table available as soon as we got there, but throughout the duration of our meal, there was a revolving door of customers. The table next to us alone had 3 different sets of people in the time that we were there!
It is licensed, but you can also BYO. Corkage is $3 per person.
The service was very efficient and the whole place was abuzz with a really vibrant energy.
The restaurant itself is quite narrow and the tables are close together. There are more tables on the mezzanine floor.
If you want an intimate dinner it’s probably not the place to choose, due to the enthusiastic chatter of satisfied customers.
We shared chicken satay skewers (delicious satay sauce), pad thai and red curry chicken with jasmine rice. All very good, but my highlight was the mango sticky rice we had for dessert. Yum!
There was a gap between each dish arriving, which was perfect for us as we shared all of them, but something to be mindful of if you’re ordering separately.
Another great find courtesy of our consultation of Trip Advisor.

My wife and I have been going to Bangkok every year since 2010 for business purposes, simply put, I think I know what Thai food should taste like.
This place felt like I was in bangkok. The staff was thai, thai spices wafted in the air & other than the ambient aussie accented snippets of conversation to remind me I was in Sydney this place was very thai.
But enough of the ambience... the food here is superb! The best of thai cooking and spices combined with australian meat and veggies. To quote my good friend from Bangkok, "The food was so good... it made me cry!"
Aroi mak ma!

The food is usually good, its casual, you end up having to sit on a tiny table cramped up against other people, the prices are reasonable but not budget. Been here many times, but a little put off about being asked what percentage I want to tip. Australia is NOT a tipping nation due to fair wages. It makes Me wonder if the staff don't get paid enough or they are employing illegal workers. It is insulting because its like they are trying to keep it very casual, but then spring this tipping thing on you. People tip in America due to tipping being a big part of their pay and the service being extremely good. The food arrived very fast, which is great but its a busy casual cafe style restaurant that does not warrant an American style tipping system. They clearly are trying to double dip, or doing something dodgy. And also seem to be hoping visitors will be deluded into believing tipping is a custom in Australia! It IS NOT! An unexplained surcharge was also added to the bill We didn't notice until we left, which is illegal in Australia. It was a regular weekday, no public holiday.
Don't ruin a great business by something dodgy.

Seriously I dont know why this restaurant got such a high review rating...as food was average, curry is no good, watery and no curry taste. but it doesnt matter as I always think customer service is important and make you enjoy the meal. However, this is the worst customer service I have ever had in Australia for Thai restaurant as usually very friendly staff. I understand the staff are super busy at Chat Thai, however, they treated you like they dont care you at all started from waiting table. they almost skipped our table as we put down our name and contact phone and walked out for a while tried not to block their area, we waited for some time but saw the people standing outside with us are already gone, so we walked in and checked and found out they almost skipped our turn and we put down table for 4 and they tried to give us a table for 2. all of this is just tiny matter, we were then seated and got excited and checked on the menus and got questions about some items , we called the waitress but she just turned her back without responding so we thought she didnt hear and we called her a bit louder Excuse Me, then she grab a tablet and turn to us with a grumpy face said I heard you! What Da!!! then the whole conversation she was like black face no facial expression, you asked her one que she gave you one simple word. anyway very bad feeling and we continued to order. later on we wanted to order dessert and interested in the donut looking like item making at the entrance, so we asked if that donut the other waitress answered: what donut?! yes donut. so we asked if we can have one set please, she just turned her back and seems so grumpy as well!! whats wrong with the place?! and they tried to clear our table they just collected the dishes loudly like showing you they are grumpy!! almost splashes the curry onto your face!! super angry here already as we waited for a table and ruined our family dinner time! when they gave you the donut with pandon sauce, they dont give you any fork, so I asked nicely as its another staff served us, he turned away without giving any response again like other staff!!! and grabbed us with a few forks, left us a few words said " we normally eat with hands"! what kind of service is this?! anyway, will definitely not return to this restaurant even its free of charge as taste is not as good but customer service is "superior"

I ordered a large bowl of rice for take-away when I was about to tap my card I saw that the price is $12.50. I told the cashier politely that I just want the steamed rice not the one with two dishes included. She punch my order again but with a black face. When I got my order I even said “Thank you” but I didn’t receive any response. This happened at The Galleries food court in Town hall station.

The hostess shouted Ï call you!"when we arrived four minutes early for our booking. Turns out she wasn't telling us to stand outside and grab a number, despite having a reservation. No, she'd called on the mobile to ask where the hell we were. So, we're meant to turn up early? Then she gave us a sour face for ordering a bottle of wine - obviously didn't want us there too long. More rudeness from her when we went to pay the bill. Oh and the food was largely awful: papaya salad so soused in fish sauce and chili (came out first) we couldn't taste the (quite nice) crab curry. Crab omelette was overcooked and so salty I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for hours. Had been wanting to go there for years - what an enormous disappointment. So incredibly overrated by others.

In Sydney for some training and had a charge back option via Deliveroo , all good, reception ordered etc and timely delivery. Green chicken curry was not good , bland and rough ( deseed the capsicums would help) Seemed expensive, so I checked the tab and was charged $16.90 for crab rolls. Pretty sure I ordered spring rolls and certainly didn’t taste any crab Oh well once bitten , glad I wasn’t paying

Not sure why the owners of this Chat Thai outlet aren’t paying more attention to the poor reviews they are getting.
We are regulars at Boon Cafe and used to be regulars at their restaurant in the QVB which sadly closed down.
After the dismal meal and overall experience today at this restaurant we will keep to Boon Cafe and Khao Pla (not connected) in Chatswood.
The staff today were so disinterested in serving us. The plates given to us for our food were ALL chipped !! Come on, really. With their prices surely decent unchipped crockery isn’t a big ask !!
Not sure if it still belongs to Amy’s family but some serious overhaul of management (re staff’s attitude, standard of serving plates and the poor quality food at high prices) is required big time.

This bustling place had a line up the sidewalk, but we only had to wait about 15 mins.for a table, and the food was well worth waiting for. The spicy shredded chicken was just the right intensity, and the sausage was spectacular - aromatic and slightly spicy. So glad my local friends recommended it.

All the dishes on their regular menu are meat, seafood or egg based. We almost left the restaurant as we couldn’t find anything good to eat. Fortunately the waiter realized the mistake and gave us separate vegetarian menu. Why not just give diners both & encourage more health, planet and animal-friendly eating???

We came to Chat Thai Haymarket after seeing the menu online had gluten free options (our daughter is coeliac).
On arrival we asked to see the rice noodles packet/brand to confirm they were gluten free as we’ve not found a wide flat rice noodle that doesn’t contain wheat. The staff could not understand what we were asking. We have no confidence that the menu is suitable for coeliacs.
The beef mussaman and green chicken curry were awful. The chicken and beef were pre cooked and then added to the very watery sauces. The noodle dishes were very bland.
I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for non coeliacs and definitely not for a coeliac.

A nice Cafe / Restaurant situated in the Thai Town of Sydney is also quite interesting for the kind of food they offer.
We ordered a Crab Fried Rice and a thai version of Khowsuey. Unfortunately, the did not have all the special teas mentioned on the menu so had to settle down with lemongrass flavor (but won't let this affect the rating as the dinning experience was quite good). We also ordered the thai version of coffee with condensed milk
Coffee was excellent, nicely flavored. Lemongrass was nothing exceptional...Just like any other lemongrass tea.
Khowsuey was easily the best dish of the day. Creamy, spicy, soupy and noodle-y .....Made quite a flavorful broth.
Crab meat rice was yummy too.
Plenty of options for Vegans and vegetarians. Attendants are very friendly. Quite easy on pocket as the quantity served is huge.
Must visit

This is a busy place! Good location right across the road from the capital theatre and close to the light rail. We attended on a Saturday night for dinner, were meeting friends and family and there we 7 of us so I would recommend booking as there was a line outside and many more people putting their names on the waiting list. The restaurant is nicely decorated and comfortable. Four of the party were sharing dishes. 1 was vegetarian, 1 was dairy and gluten intolerant and there was 1 child wanting a simple prawn and noodle dish with no spice. This restaurant catered for everyone with heaps of choices and each and every dish was delicious! I think you could order anything from the menu and be very happy. Highly recommend.

I took my family out for dinner here after the Moulin Rouge and we ordered a few dishes which were okay. We were rushed out the door whilst we were still eating the last of our dishes - at this point, we had only been at the restaurant for less than an hour. We felt pressured to and leave immediately. Upon getting home, we checked the receipt and discovered we were charged different prices than what was on the menu resulting in a $50 overcharge. I called the restaurant and was told to call the manager back the next day to discuss the matter. Upon calling back the next day, I was told there was no manager. I have emailed the company and have been ignored. Beware!
