Yesterday we joined the usual queue outside this popular Malaysian restaurant in Goulburn Street. As we had a group of 6 we had to wait a little bit longer for a suitable table. While we were waiting I remembered this place was BYO which is fine so one of us ventured to the nearest Pub to grab a 6 pack of beers and a bottle of red. Soon we were ushered to our table and grabbed the menu to select some starters for our hungry guests. We ordered a few dipping plates with Roti and chicken satay skewers to share on the table. After my first mouthful I was quickly reminded why I wanted to come back again to enjoy this flavoursome aromatic choice of foods. We ordered our second course which we all devoured and enjoyed but made the mistake of not leaving enough room for desert. This was very disappointing as when we decided to leave what I saw arrive on the table beside us looked so delicious and again brought back those tastebud experiences. Oh well - next I am sure I will be back again soon as I have now converted my daughter and friends to return to this establishment.

Having read the reviews and being someone who loves Malaysian style food, I was keen to try this place out. We went there twice as the food was so good and it was conveniently located near our hotel, whilst barely making a dent in our wallets. We went around 6pm the first time with no queue, next time arriving closer to 7pm with a short queue outside in which we only waited about 5 minutes before being seated. The roti canai and nasi goreng / maggi goreng were excellent. The roti canai was the best I have had, even compared to those I have tried in my few trips to Malaysia. The daal style curry provided with it went perfectly. Teh tarik however a bit sweet for my liking. If you're up for a great value meal definitely try this place out.

This restaurant does not take bookings but the line begins from about 6pm if you don't get in before. The food and quick service are amazing. The roti are to die for and you can watch them being made as you want outside. Jobak, Nela, and lamb dishes were all good. All food is flavoursome and enjoyable. Be careful of over ordering. You will be glad you lined up for this place. We arrived about 6.30pm Friday night and waited about 20 minutes. Enjoy!

Our last visit was over 5 years ago to this outlet so we were interested to experience dining here again. The place was very busy as expected and after a short wait we were seated. Post COVID the ordering experience has changed and we now order via a QR code - it was hard to get the attention of any wait staff as once they seat you then they are off serving or clearing. It took awhile before we got the attention of someone to assist with our questions. Food came quite quickly after we ordered but interestingly a long wait for 1 hot drink which arrived about 20 minutes after we finished our meal. Again as we tried to attract the attention of waitstaff it was a challenge. Even after walking up to the counter it took a further 10 minutes before the drink arrived. A good place to come to but it would not be our first choice in future.

The food is always consistently good from Mamak however for deliveries and takeaway all containers need to be wrapped in plastic film as the food always arrives with sauces outside the containers and messy food bags that contain other items. The outer carry bag also becomes soaked and could not be used by the delivery man to bring the food to the door. Each plastic dish and foil food bag were delivered individually – no carry bag containing the entire order. The poor delivery guy had to clean his bike food basket of all the spilt sauces. Unfortunately there is still ability to request a small container of chili sambol which should always be a free option on each dish considering the current prices/dish. The only option for chilli sambol is to buy a $16 (plus delivery surcharge) jar. If the food containers were wrapped properly for delivery & takeaway and they included free small container chilli sambol upon request I would give them 5/5.

This is a really busy restaurant specialising in Malaysian food. We had vegetable curry, chicken curry and roti canal all were delicious with bags of flavour. Total cost was around $45 so really worth it. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all curry lovers.

We stopped by here at 12 am on Saturday night. It is one of the few places that seem to be open at night. We had eaten at the Mamak at Melborne. The vegetarian options taste great but are limited. For example, with the roti, we get two dals instead of two different curries and a sambal. The desert rotis are great. The floors were quite dirty with fallen food and other dirt, but it was the end of the day, so probably expected.

We came across Mamak whilst on a hunt for Malaysian food which seems to be a bit of a rarity in Sydney. The restaurant seemed quiet from the outside but on entering it was bustling. This is a tidy and quick eatery, with a very limited menu specialising in Roti and satay. We had the Toto which came with two curry sauces, one of which was a much more complex curry flavour than the other. We followed this up with a shared nasi goreng and some chicken satay and a couple of soft drinks. Disappointingly, none of the milk based drinks were available. All in all a very good, cheap meal.

We've visited Mamak many times over the years and it continues to be a regular favourite. The dishes are "classic" (in a good way) and fresh and the atmosphere is relaxed. If you are familiar with Malaysian food, don't miss the Nasi Lemak (with a choice of sides at additional cost) - we like the chicken curry and the fried chicken. Don't miss the roti, made fresh for your order and if you like desserts try the roti kaya or ice kachang. This is comfort food Malaysian style and always worth a visit. Because of Covid the restaurant has tried several ordering formats - order by app, order at the register and sometimes order from the staff (due to limited staff availability it appears). It doesn't really matter but ordering via the staff is a bit more convenient. Overall Mamak continues to deliver a great Malaysian meal with lots of choices and fresh ingredients. Looking forward to our next visit!

This Malaysian restaurant chain is one of the best in Sydney. Their popularity driven them to open some smaller restaurants within Westfield foodcourt called Mamak village. Don't forget to try their spicy Nasigoreng and Nasilemak!!

We visited on a Saturday lunch time. It was very busy inside but we did not have to wait long for a table. The food was good and was a reasonable price for Sydney. I would reccomend this to people who want a decent price filling meal.

This restaurant is so popular that usually you need to queue outside (especially on weekends) to get a table. On a Wednesday night at 1800 we queued for about 10 minutes which we had no problem with as we could watch through the front window one of the staff making roti (throwing the dough in the air, enlarging it and then folding it numerous times). We had roti (obviously), sambal squid and a chicken curry. All were delicious and authentic - my husband is Malaysian Chinese so he does know. The sambal was so good we wanted to take some home and though the jars were sold out at this restaurant i have ordered some online. We can understand now why Mamak is so highly recommended. Next time we'll try the satay.

Food was excellent but was put off by the aggression shown by a waitress who asked us if we had paid the $4 a head corkage charge. We had paid and had already received our wine glasses from another waitress (who had confirmed we had paid). I understand that you have to keep an eye on customers when they are paying via an app, but please try to be friendly and don't harass diners if they already have wine glasses. Online menu suited me and was clear and easy to use, but my partner's eyesight is not great so he would have struggled on his own.

The roti canai (aka roti prata) with kaya and coconut ice cream were a perfect pairing as a sweet dessert. Surprised we do not find this in Asia. Nasi lemak (coconut rice) could do with more coconut milk in rice - there was no coconut fragrance or taste like the authentic version. The chilli can be improved to have more sweetness (it was only spicy hot). Chicken satay and Curry chicken were delicious. The savoury roti canai (plain, egg or with onions) were ordinary, nothing to shout about. One cannot gripe about the food and prices and compare them with those in Malaysia or Singapore. This is Australia where ingredients and cost of living are way different.

This restaurant advertises gluten free options, however when we went there we were told that there were NO gluten free options. Very annoying when you are a coeliac. Please get your details correct and stop wasting your potential customers time.
