As a group of 5 we chose this place after asking a random person at our hotel where to eat in Chinatown. We ordered a large variety of the menu and were certainly not disappointed at all with the service, portion sizes and pricing. A brilliant meal and definitely will venture back there one day.

We chose the restaurant because it looked spacious & comfortable with a nice outdoor area as it was a warm night. Unfortunately, the service here isn't great. We had to call over waitresses to order drinks throughout the night as they don't stop even if they are passing your table. There were apparent kitchen staff bringing out meals too who... More

This restaurant is in the heart of China Town, Sydney. We sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was lovely, particularly the salt and pepper squid with chilli, which was a favourite. The service was quick and friendly. Would happily eat here again.

After walking for ages we settled on this restaurant because it was really busy - it didn't let us down. The food was great, service was ordinary but friendly.

Visited for the first time after seeing a great many customers. After waiting 20 minutes our order was finally taken. Given that we pay $20 per main meal, I expect better service.

I used to enjoy yum cha and dinners at the Hingara over forty years ago, but the recent visit failed to replicate the experience of the earlier times. The first thing we noticed in contrast to visits in the past, was that, apart from the staff, the only Chinese face in the restaurant was my dear spouse's. The restaurant seems... More

$100 for the worst Chinese we have ever had. The dumplings tasted like they were out of a packet, the rest of the food very salty, wine was undrinkable. Save your money and eat where the Caucasians aren't!!!

Hingara Chinese Restaurant in Dixon Street Chinatown is a stand out for Gluten Free dining. Their comprehensive (like all Chinese Restaurants) menu had at least 40 % of the selections marked as GF (not like all Chinese Restaurants). My wife ate a number of dishes, we went back for lunch and dinner and she never had any problems. Best omelette... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.
