Happy to take an order (and payment) for dinner and drinks around 8.40pm, but then tell you that you should leave at 9.26pm! “Last customer”. Not sure how quickly they expect a bottle of wine to be drunk but not realistic

Great service & food was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant. Great location to eat before a show at the Opera house.
Excellent food. Appalling service. Food courses all landed together - main courses got cold while we made our way through entrees. Waiter seemed to not care about this situation, The worst part was when the waiter brought the bill and stood over me whilst I...scanned my card. He demanded that I select the "tip" option! Given the rudeness of his approach and the poor service, I refused to tip. This is the first time that I have experienced such a brazen grab for a tip at this restaurant. Such a shame as it is in all other respects, a great restaurant.More
I have been going to East Restaurant for many, many years with my husband and a group of friends, before we go to Opera House performances. In all those years we have never had a less than a spectacularly delicious meal. The food is fresh...and clean and incredibly tasty. We always order the Scallops with Ginger and Shallot - too good to pass up with their fried rice. I also recommend the duck pancakes - a huge and delicious entree, and last night we ordered the honey prawns - all I can say is YUMMM!!! Any dish we’ve ever ordered has been good. Also very easy to order gluten free. Not only is East in a great location and an easy walk to the Opera House, Botanic Gardens and the city, but the staff are really lovely and the service always professional. Highly recommended!More
This is our go to place if we are heading off for a concert or performane at the Sydney Opera House, and we've been coming here for a number of years now. The staff are always professional and provide great service and the food is...great. Plus you get to watch the harbour and people wandering past at Circular Quay. If you like spring rolls, make sure to order them here.More
The best pepper steak I have tasted. The steamed Orange fish? with black bean sauce (on the side) was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever had. Service was also good. I went on a Tuesday night.
The East Chinese Restaurant serves excellent fresh food, and the views across Sydney Harbour to the City and the Bridge are fantastic. We had tickets to a show at the Sydney Opera House, so we really appreciated the prompt service without feeling rushed. We will...definitely return.More
We arrived late into Sydney and we were struggling to find anywhere still serving food at 20.45. We came across this place and they took us in but we were told they closed at 21:30. Service was very swift and we were all done in...half hour and for $190 we got the usual plastic looking meat the usual poor quality Chinese food. No better than the food markets. Big mistake turning left out of our hotel and not right to Chinatown where we could have had much better food for a lot less.More
Delicious food, helpful and friendly staff, would highly recommend. Great location too, right next to the Opera house. Only thing that would make better is a larger venue as popular so I’d recommend booking! A kids menu or smaller portions of some mains would make...it a better choice for families but if you don’t mind sharing or taking away then this remedies and they were very accommodating to kidsMore
We just can't help coming back here when in Sydney. We have tried others. They just don't add up to this place. This was a night that was amazingly busy but the service was no different to when quiet. The staff are so accomodating and professional....You never wait for empty plates to be cleared. Staff don't hover they just notice everything. Service is always quick and the guys are really friendly. Food is great no matter what we have tried. Never had a bad meal or experience here. Plus the views of the harbour bridge just top it off. Will always be backMore
We went based on the reviews. The place looks sketchy to us, old and antiquated. Service was kinda slow but the food was truly delicious. It was a surprise after having judge the book by its cover.
Excellent view and good service. Food was huge portions but lacking in flavour Prawns in ginger nice prawns but no ginger taste Disappointed- was hoping for nice Chinese food
Had walked past over the years and our visit the first. Seating options are outside with ringside Sydney Harbour at its finest views or more cosy inside seats. Table linen and chopsticks a welcome start. Staff briskly attentive. Wine by the glass options well chosen....Short soup tasty but salty. Stir fried veggies just picked fresh but again salty. Vegetarian fried rice with egg generous as was the Fillet Steak in Peking sauce. Sauce delicious. Takeaway containers at end appreciated. To make the experience perfect? Less salt and say 10% less on the bill. Appreciate everyone’s overheads have increased but prices are such that a meal there won’t be often.More
Let's face it there's no shortage of Chinese restaurants around, and plenty of good ones too. I last reviewed East back in November 2022 and had a good meal, the food was good with all the usual suspects on the extensive menu. Service qnd ambience...have never been strong traits in Chinese restaurants, and East is no different, so don't come expecting a warm welcome and intimate service, this is strictly order and get the nosh delivered. This recent visit I have to say disappointed, the San choi bau came individually served and was rather uninspiring, the peking duck pancakes rather than self serve from the dishes at table was pre-prepared, and lacked any presentation and rather sloppily served. The mains were fine without being notable other than expensive. The location you can't fault and given that this place will always do ok, but next time we need a Chinese food fix I think we'll look further afield.More
Service was just that - very average! Indifferent staff, not unpleasant but seemed disinterested. Water was never topped up or asked to be topped up during our dining - and they were not busy! A tofu & seafood soup was good (according to one of...our party members) but it looked like a typical quick chinese cheats dish - stock cubes & cornflour to thicken. Steamed rice was overcooked & gluggy. Steamed ling fish in ginger shallot sauce was overcooked but was the best dish. Pleasant flavour. The veg & tofu in oyster sauce dish was very ordinary. Large chunks of tofu & pretty much only baby bok choy (there was 1 or 2 mushroom slices& i detected some carrot - not that more carrot would have made a difference) in a sauce of some description. Was unappetising. Then came the duck in plum sauce. We were expecting a nice roast duck with crispy skin in a delicate plum sauce. We received some mess on a serving dish of deep fried (looked like old duck pieces) duck with a horrible batter falling off (not crispy) swamped in a super sweet bright pink/red sauce - shocking! I find it astounding that anyone would find this establishment serves quality authentic food.More
