We were on a business trip for a few days in Sydney and we were staying nearby in the Cross, and as usual always try and hunt down great places to eat. We hate paying for average food and we have been to lots of top restaurants such as Rockpool, Quay, Momofuku etc. and yes they do not disappoint, but to find this little gem up in the backstreets was gold. Firstly, this place is pretty small, like I am talking almost the size of your average lounge and dining room in a house type small, but what they manage to get out of this space is fantastic. I was a bit apprehensive at first to sit at one large table with other diners but it ended up being no bother at all. There was plenty of elbow room and unless you wanted to discuss top secret business there was no issue, as with everyone having discussions among themselves it all got lost in the noise anyway. The decor and outlook out onto the street was great and completely keeping with their theme. The kitchen was so small and I am still amazed at how they could pull off such fantastic food in such a well oiled fashion. This is a restaurant that showcases fresh, seasonal produce and does it splendidly, and at $65 per person truly is a bargain. The waiters were very helpful with explaining the finer details of some of the courses which was great. The portion sizes are borderline too much and my wife was struggling, but I couldn't let such good food go to waste so I ate way more than I should of. There was nothing at all in the many courses that I thought missed the mark, as everything was well thought out and executed to perfection. Highlights though for us were the fried artichokes, and whatever was pickled on that first plate, the chicken and it's fabulous seasoning as well as the selection of charred vegetables with the fennel and leek being the standouts, and the Brioche bread and butter pudding,oh and I just remembered this unbelievable mashed potatoes with many little additions that was delicious. Drinks menu could use a little work as there is no spirits to speak of and the beers were limited but the helpful, attentive staff made sure I found a beer I liked and we settled in nicely. Thank you and we will be back.

Probably the most-deserving #1 rated restaurant I have had the pleasure to dine in. Mike and his team work seamlessly (in a very small space) to provide culinary and service perfection from start to finish. I’m still not sure how they offer what they do for such a reasonable price. Do not miss this gem if you’re in Sydney!

Go for the sensational food! This restaurant is tiny (10 tables?) and doesn't have the cool vibe you might get near the harbor. But take a 15 minute cab ride into the Kings Cross neighborhood and you will be treated with a creative and delicious 4 course dinner. One of the chefs waited on us as did 2 other people, all who were so nice and welcoming. Can't say enough good things. I have rarely given a restaurant a 5-star review, but this one deserves 6.

This review is mainly based against expectations. Given that this is rated the number 1 restaurant in Sydney, we obviously had high expectations. It started very badly, as the menu on their website, described as "today's menu",did not match the menu when we got there, and it wasn't anywhere near as exciting as the menu we expected. The choice of beverages in minimal, serving no spirits and only a selection of wine and a small number of beers. The tables are VERY close together, making it impossible to have a conversation without the people next to you hearing every word you say. The general feeling, ambiance, and decor of the place was really lacking. This too could be set about the waiters / waitresses who had all the charisma of a potato. Not to say they were horrible or mean, but really just not the serving staff you'd expect of number 1 rated restaurant in Sydney. Food was good, although my fiance wasn't so impressed. Again, i wouldn't say it was food deserving of the best in the city. Wasn't too expensive which, so value for money food wise was good, but there are a lot of other restaurants in the city that would better this one hands down.

Tip top!! My wife and I were looking for a great culinary experience for our last night in Sydney and the Farmhouse delivered hands down one of the best we have ever had. The table staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and gave great conversation when prompted by myself. We really enjoy leaving a restaurant bubbly and happy, and the Farmhouse gave us this feeling the minute we sat down. Their set menu was faultless with both taste and presentation; the timing between meals was spot on, giving you enough moments between to let you appreciate what you just ate. It is my understand that this menu changes every few weeks and that only makes me jealous of all Sydney folk, as we would certainly have the Farmhouse as a regular occurrence in our lives. The Farmhouse should be up there with other big name restaurants around Sydney it is an absolute delight. This is a restaurant you will recommend to anyone who visits Sydney.

One of the top 5 meals I’ve ever had and I am a foodie and pretty good cook myself. Service is impeccable, food is mouth watering and inventive, the community table inspires conversation with others. A perfect evening - and reasonably priced. Don’t miss it.

We had dinner here and it was fabulous! It is a fixed price menu (only $65pp at this time) and a virtual bargain for what you get. The fried artichokes were cooked to perfection and perfectly paired with the light aioli. Next came spinner crab in a creamy coconut flavored broth. The chicken was mounted with crispy skin and the vegetables were delicious. The two desserts made us think we had died and gone to heaven, as the raspberries were so incredibly sweet. It was amazing what they can accomplish is such a small restaurant. If you are in Sydney, this is a must. (I have eaten at several TA number 1 restaurants in the world, as this one definitely deserves it!). Highly recommend and reservations are a must!

Seasonal sensational food! Wow what flavors and delicious food. Menu is attached. We had a pescatarian so in addition to the roast pork shoulder we also had a serving of exquisite trout that was full of flavor but simply prepared to just melt in your mouth. Reservations a must (20 person seating).

Highly creative combinations of colours, flavours, textures and categories of foods keep coming. Cannot find better quality of service. Every staff member is interested in one thing... their customer. This is rare in my experience. The quality of ingredients is supberb. The house baked bread set the tone for a taste blitz to come and I've left almost intoxicated from the experience and only drank sparkling mineral water which was cold just how I like it. Thanks to Mike for being such a lovely host and to all the staff for making my first visit to your farm house so enjoyable. Also no question that the value is spot on. Greg

The restaurant is very small and you need a reservation (take a look at the website, WhatsApp works). The dinner itself was fantastic and very very vey much value for money. The basically have a set menu for the evening. Our special request(s) were met promptly. We got wonderful suggestions for wines that would go with each dish. The athmosphere was cozy and relaxed, service was absolutely superior!

My partner and I visited The farmhouse last night with great expectations, only to be bitterly disappointed. Having read all the posted reviews we were anticipating a memorable culinary delight, yet we experienced an extremely expensive, poorly considered combination of foods. Starting with bread, butter and a small assortment of pickled vegetables, through to rubbery Calamari, culminating in crumbed Pork, reminiscent of the local corner take away shop, the only feeling we were left with was being ‘ripped off’. If you are extremely hungry, which my partner and I were, then the meal is filling. However, if you are seeking value for money and a wonderfully engaging evening, try another venue.

You must have reservations as they only have two seatings for about 26 people. It's a price fixed multi coarse meal. Everyone gets the same meal. They chefs are very creative and the staff is fabulous. I have eaten here several times. It's one of my favorites in Sydney.

If you enjoy a delicious meal made up of original dishes prepared with unique taste pairings, fresh ingredients, and prepared/served by a friendly chef and his team, this is the place. My best friend and I had several delicous meals on our first trip to Sydney, but this was the most memorable for the reasons described above. The wines suggested by the staff were also wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I would definitely return again if I have another opportunity to visit Sydney.

I've been waiting to eat at Farmhouse for ages and it more than delivered to my high expectations. The food was delicious - good portions, interesting combinations and I left feeling really satisfied. The wine was lovely, the service was great and the communal table was separate so it felt like i was dining at Mike's house. The attention to detail and the personal service Mike provided made this a wonderful dining experience. I would highly recommend Farmhouse and it's safe to say I'll visit again.

Great for my partners Birthday. I love the concept of the whole place. The sharing bench seating makes sharing all of the food all the easier. The food was to die for! Every course left us guessing and wanting more. I have never in my life thought a cauliflower could be soooo good! Will be back again and again and again. Super affordable and the standard is impeccable.

Kings Cross
Changing liquor laws are remodeling "The Cross," Sydney's red light district. These new rules have encouraged trendy cafes and boutiques to pop-up in the area, as well as organic markets on Saturdays. The area's nightclubs are still popular with youngsters, however, who will dance to the early morning hours on weekend nights. There are plenty of artifacts from Kings Cross' shady past when gangsters and liquor houses owned the place. Today, one can still find a variety of adult entertainment venues in this evolving area.
