Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very cute cafe, it was lovely sitting there for a late brunch. The hot chocolate was amazing and the food was also tasty. The owner was very friendly, taking the time to have a chat. He was also kind enough to make us a special treat of a marshmallow toasted over a cup of hot chocolate, so delicious.

This is a great place for a coffee. The barista really knows what he's doing, and they have a huge variety of different styles, blends, single-origin beans, etc. The food is super yummy, and the atmosphere is surprisingly friendly and calm for a cafe in the middle of the city. It's a great place to sit for a while, play chess, read and relax away from the busyness of the city.

Alan loves to have a chat. Say hello to Alan for me when you visit. You can’t miss him, as he’ll probably want to have a very intelligent chat with you, like how he has done his bit for the beautification of Commonwealth Street with his bright yellow marigolds on the footpath, by the entrance door. See, he really cares - about your food and beverages too. Like your four bean blend coffee; your mango smoothie; your eggs Benne etc. Ahhh, then there is his Stormin’ Norman tribute breakfast. I hope you like red onions. And bring back those white chocolate pancakes, Alan! This is all well worth checkin’ out! Especially if your name is Norman.

We went to visit Joe Black cafe for Sunday brunch expecting most cafes around the town be busy. We went to the counter to ask for a table for two but also said we’re happy to wait outside until a table became available. The Asian man at the till was pushing to only have takeaway options because they were busy and kept saying he doesn’t know how long people will sit and eat at their tables for. There was another customer in front of us waiting and that staff member rudely said the same to him, to the point where he just left without ordering That male staff member then kept on talking to the female front of house staff member next to him, ignoring us When a table was free after, we went to ask the female member who was clearing it if we could sit. She rudely stated to just wait for her, so we did patiently. Another larger table then left next to this first table, so we asked that female staff member if we could sit there instead. She was extremely rude and said words to the effect of I don’t care where you sit, just let me be We sat for a bit, but then receiving no service, stood up and left. Similarly a group of 4 behind us (who were similarly waiting for a table) ended up leaving because of the rude staff members. And that was when there were 2 tables open for them

Mazza coffee was strong, cold brew and the breakfast standards of eggs Benedict and toasties are nice and consistent. Bircher granola and the mince beef breakfast seemed like other popular choices here. Decent cafe in a competitive area. Worth a visit.

Great looking place. Well fitted out, with a pair of disco balls complementing the music playing. Very popular with tourists from nearby hotels. After opening at 0800 it was full by 0830. My coffee was good, immunity juice very good, but the 'stormin norman' special of red onions, cherry tomatoes, avocado & poached eggs on sourdough was somewhat bland and underwhelming. Staff efficient. Not at all terrible but a fairly ordinary, big city experience.

On a Friday morning it was quite busy in there, nevertheless I could catch a seat with the appropriate table. It took some time, until I got served, but the food and coffee were good. I had a sourdough bread with two poached eggs accompanied by cut tomatoes, onions and avocado. I would return.

We came here with all the family. The cooks and waiters were very cordial. The place is well decorated. The menu is very large and everything is delicious. We took some avocados, poached eggs, smoothies and juices. Everything was fresh and very well done! The portions were GIANT and it’s a very good thing for us that will not have a proper lunch because we will be on a plane for London. Can’t wait to come to Sydney again and return here!

Very close to our accommodation and a pleasant experience. The toasted sandwiches were generously filled with delicious fillings. Our second visit for a quick breakfast was just as satisfying. I had delicious savoury mince on delicious sourdough. Staff were friendly and attentive. A very pleasant experience. The coffee was good too.

We went here for breakfast on our first morning in Sydney and returned on our second morning as we enjoyed it so much. We tried different coffees which were all great. We ate the avocado on toast and the ham and cheese croissants which were both brilliant. The service was great, very friendly and it was always busy with a great atmosphere. Located just near Hyde Park, it was a great stop for us on our way to Circular Quay to see the sights!

What a lovely cafe in Commonwealth St just across from the War Memorial. Great Timor coffee in a friendly, warmly decorated space that even has a back room for larger groups and handy for a casual business catch up. The owner/ manager is extremely friendly and interested in his clients making this a must remember cafe to go to!

Worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood! Coffee was excellent (much higher par than my usual), food was fantastic. Especially the bacon. We had the Storming Norman and the Big Breakfast. Place got busy quickly, and even though they were short staffed and had some new staff, we still felt taken care of.

Always a favorite spot. We aren’t even checked into our hotel and had to come back for a cup of Joe @ Joe Black. Teddy Bear Iced Latte is super cute. It was hard watching the little burger melt away, but no regrets for the tasty flavors. Good bye Teddy. Hello world.

Read all the reviews and thought we would try this out for breakfast. Definitely did not disappoint. Cute place. Owner and staff very friendly and polite. Coffee was great. Food was superb. We are visiting from the country but intend to go back again tomorrow. I had the granola with yoghurt and fruit and some sourdough toast. Generous 3 pieces. Hubby had the bolognaise mince on toast. Food and coffee fantastic.
