I have been to Shady Pines Saloon many times with work companions & friends. I love the place! Starting with the secret bar location, it has become great fun to head down a back alley to a nondescript doorway & have friends questioning your sanity. Then in the door & down the stairs to an underground world that is just... More

A friend took me here over the easter weekend i had a great time. As soon as i entered i loved it. Interesting fit out extremely different to any other bar in Sydney. The place was busy and it did take a little while to get a drink. I am looking forward to my next visit.

I had no idea that Sydney had a culture of speak easy's. This was the third one I have been to and it was great. No marked door, no sign. just local knowledge. The ambiance was fun. lots of older country music playing and animal heads on the wall. A bit dingier than some of the others, but still great.

The atmosphere is so good that you don't feel for leaving. The bartenders are so lovely and the music is amazing. Whisky apple is delicious. I would recommend this place to everyone!

This bar has everything you want if you are a fan of bourbon and beer - it is happening and buzzing on the weekends, while during the week it is low key and you have the opportunity to chat with the cool guys behind the bar. If I lived in Sydney I would quickly become a regular.

Visited this with Australians, great drinks including cocktails, good country music. Entrance is unassuming but worth the searching

This is perfect example of how small bars can take up quirky places, be unique and just provide something bit more special than big barn anonymous pubs or league clubs. Down the stairs and almost feels like prohibition era and that thrill of doing something a bit clandestine yet somehow spit and sawdust at same time!

This saloon is well worth seeking out. The decor is amazing and great for a drink if in the area. There are no beers on tap, they seem to be bottles or cans and a bit pricey but the quirky decor and atmosphere is what made it for us.

Top bar in Sydney! Great atmosphere, drinks and decor! Downside: Expensive Bartenders are avoiding serving guys and look after ladies first, even if you re there waiting for 10 min!

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
