The perfect cafe to enjoy great food sitting in quiet booths to catch up with friends over coffee or a meal. The menu is vast with a either snacks or more substantial meals with excellent service. Booths sit 4 comfortably and there are also corner areas for larger groups. Like the service of old with atmosphere to match.

We find the bookstore ambience very appealing and we were pleased to get seats on a busy Sunday. The cafe seems to have expanded since our last visit. Service can be unpredictable but we were well looked after and did not wait long for our toasted sandwiches. It's nice to be able to get simple choices like these. The coffee... More

My friends and I would often visit this cafe as we all worked on a cruise ship and found it quite nice for free wifi. The location is beautiful-- above a beautiful book store and set out nicely so you can people watch while eating. It's right in the heart of downtown Sydney so it's a great spot to go... More

I ordered the pulled beef on potato for $19 and it was terrible! Definitely not pulled beef - instead it was basically a few chunks of cork on a few cubes of boiled potato. I didn't eat it, it was that bad. Waitresses passed our table plenty times and must have noticed that my plate was pushed to the side... More

Fantastic cafe right in the middle of the most incredible and largest bookstore that I have ever experienced. Nice to be able to check out a few books while relaxing for a coffee

We were here as part of our walkabout in the city and it was very crowded as it was just 2 days leading up to Christmas and many people were doing their final shopping. We were book lovers and liked the place as it has a cosy, bright and nice ambience, with a wide collection of books covering over 3... More

I seem to be in the minority that finds their coffee to be less than palatable. But, I like the atmosphere and the service is good. Sadly my favourite Caesar Salad has been replaced by something similar but smaller in portion size (same price) and not as tasty. I'm a great believer in that old adage "if it aint broke... More

What a gem of a place ... quiet and comfortable ... just right for a business development meeting. The service was perfect and unintrusive and the coffee was good too. I will be back ... thanks to my prospect's introduction!

Nothing better after a long day of Xmas shopping than to take a well earned break at the Dymocks cafe before checking out. The menu has a diverse selection from all day breakfast to main meals. Staff are friendly and the coffee is good quality. Highly recommended for that undecided moments of which book to buy, why not grab a... More

We visit Dymocks Cafe every time we visit Sydney and love the exceptional service, coffee and food. The food is consistently excellent and we love the mochas. We always receive a warm friendly smile from the staff. Highly recommended cafe ... and we never leave the building without buying books either.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
