Always a good vibe here, but hoped to see South African staff to add the flavour of home, and would be nice for patrons to get a taste of the Jozie culture with live music :)

Been loving their food for years now. Still do, its so delicious! ONLY one qualm, the bread that their bunny chow comes in has shrunk! With the chicken curry inside it that is still so devine, the baked bread that it comes in is not so good anymore :( The guys do their best to look after you as well,... More

Went there with a large group, got spoilt and loved the food and drinks (beers and shots), particularly the Soweto Toilet.

Wow!!! If you walk in expecting a shabeen type atmosphere and delicious food then that is exactly what you will get! We had a Family Christmas get together and had the best time! We were not in a hurry and had the intention of having a long and lazy catch up so Between everyone we practically ordered the whole menu... More

We have been here quite a few times over the yrs and it never fails to deliver. We went on Friday night after a friend of ours invited us to join her and some or her mates. It was a very authentic Saffa experience once again. We had the set menu for $45 per head and there was so much... More

I am not sure why this place is so well liked by other reviewers. We went at a quiet night of the restaurant, and the waiter ignored us for a long while, even though we had been signalling that we are ready to order. The delay is not exaggerated - the waiter even went to the table who has finished... More

Great atmosphere and the food was delicious. But $50 for pork spare ribs? Really?? We shared 5 dishes, thinking the ribs and whole chicken would be easily enough. But the ribs was really a single serve (which I've paid $20-$30 for elsewhere) and the chicken was small. And very late. We went on a busy night so that is definitely... More

This is a great place to enjoy the tastes of South African Food. It has a variety of the South African cultures' food and the flavours truly makes you homesick. We ate twice there this week and the background music and setup of the restaurant makes sure your experience is worth it. Of course anyone can enjoy the flavours of... More

A Shebeen has historically been a township gathering place to eat, drink and commune with others. A place of peaceful enjoyment in an otherwise crazy world, where just as easily one can mellow into the night or an epic party can kick off. Good food, drinks and even entertainment. Welcome to Lucky's.

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
