We've visited the Mercantile many times during our trips to Sydney. The food was always good, but is now better than ever and there's a good menu to choose from. The staff are friendly & helpful and the atmosphere at weekends is great with live music. You'll go a long way to find a better pub in Sydney.

Ate here on a busy Friday night as we were staying in the hotel. Very popular spot. Meals didnt take too long considering how many people were there. Food was good. Atmosphere was great. Live music too.

Set down for a wee pint and ended up ordering lunch. We had the fish fillets but everyone was commenting on the lamb pie. Service was great and very very quick. Located in the hotel with the outdoor area facing the Market. Live music on the weekends. Loads of fun!

Stopped for lunch. The Cajun omelette on the specials list was ok. But the salad was wilted with very slimy, rotten leaves included. What was more unforgivable was that the waitress, chef and manager were all unconcerned. My advice is to keep walking. Don't stop to eat here. Strong smell of urine inside. Making coffee was too much trouble.

Stayed here on the 13th Nov. Caught early flight from NZ that morning and made our way to the Merc. at The Rocks. First time there, was nicely surprised by the market set up right outside the hotel. Lots of people, wares for sale, nice Saturday street bustle (something I'm not used to but thoroughly enjoyed being in amongst it... More

Did not stay in the hotel but visited twice recently - mainly for the live music which was outstanding on both occasions - especially the Black Water Irish Band who are resident on Saturday afternoons. If you want a decent pint, some good food and entertained, this is the place to go - fantastic.

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
