We reserved a table here for my wife’s surprise birthday party for 4 and they didn’t disappoint. The dining room was bright and elegant and the staff were very welcoming and professional across the board.
The only option that evening was a set menu (with options on all courses) for $85 which consisted or an Entree, Main and Dessert (or a cocktail in replacement of the dishes).
We had spent $185 the night before at a shockingly bad dinner at The Bentley Restaurant and Claire’s kitchen was a standout in every department.
The entree of Steak Tartare came deconstructed with the elements finely positioned around the diced beef cubes. The waiter mixed them together along with the egg yolk to become a nicely balanced dish of richness and tanginess to match. It was perfect and the envy amongst other on the table. The three cheese souffle was light and rich and was the recommended dish by the waiter and the Dome of smoked salmon was perfectly accompanied by the crab and celeriac remoulade served with avocado dressing and brioche crouton.
The mains were a beef affair with Braised beef cheeks, red wine sauce; Beef tenderloin wrapped in prosciutto and Beef fillet, flambéed in cognac, with green pepper and cream sauce. All cooked to perfection in all the glory of classic French sauces that should not be understated here.
The desserts we chose the French pastry, a chocolate mousse, a crème brûlée. A perfect way to end the meal and all beautifully presented. They also wrote ‘Happy Birthday’ on the plate in French with beautiful hand writing along with a sparkler.
What must be highlighted is that although this was a fixed menu price, every dish that came was not reduced in size as other restaurants would. Each dish that arrived stood out on it’s own as if you had ordered it individually from the menu in terms of presentation and size.
The light hearted approach by staff made this French dining experience very warm and relaxed almost understating the excellent food that was made without compromise. We will definitely be back to one of the best quality and value French restaurants in Sydney.

On the first floor at Claire's Kitchen, the Surry Hills French Bistro, is Le Salon Dada where the scene is set for cabaret on Sunday nights. This is an intimate space with soft lighting, several large wall screens, and a number of tables and chairs to accommodate fifiy guests forming a circle around a centrally elevated stage.
The cost at $140 per head plus alcohol includes a cocktail, canapé, five course meal plus the cabaret (a different act between courses). The show begins long before the first act with several magicians working the tables. We are provided with the necessary ingredients to make our own cocktail and then the extraordinary menu follows over the next three hours. The theme for the night is the Parisienne Surrealism period of Man Ray, Salvador Dali, Miro and Magritte to name a few. This theme is incorporated into the cabaret acts and the food ..with the wall screens ever changing to remind us of each course to follow.
The cabaret consists of professional artists whose individual acts are so varied from each other yet all compliment the Surrealsim period. We watch with surprise and awe, we clap and we cheer. We expound upon the food, the props, the tastes, the flavours, the colours, the attention to detail. This is genius at work and not just on the part of the cabaret artists .. it is also the chef, the excellent, efficient, and unusually dressed waiting staff but the real star of the night is Marc Zuzma. The most delightful, caring patron in town. He is the true genius.
Book well ahead, be on time: 5.30PM sharp and ENJOY to the full! It's incredible!

Claires Kitchen came highly recommended and despite our high expectations, we were NOT disappointed. The evening was tremendous celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary in French style seated in a beautifully arranged secluded booth table. The ambiance hits you the moment you walk in off the street with the staff in their chic black face masks all literally welcoming you to Claires Kitchen.
Service was impeccable and the set menu style of dining worked very well.
Entrees - The steak tartare was one of the best I have had and Marc who served was especially proud of it, knowing how good it really is. The scallops were beautiful and was a generous serve - in fact both entrees were quite sizeable.
Mains - The Duck and the Fish dishes again very generous serves with complimenting sauces that were sensational.
Wine list is good and glad to see pricing was not over the top
Highly recommend Claires Kitchen at le Salon and will definitely be returning with friends next time to share in this experience

The Claire's Kitchen Le Salon in Sydney, Australia, experience was both expensive and disappointing. We attended the restaurant as booked. We had the worst and most expensive experience ever. The service and product expected was NOT provided. The pricing was exhorbinate. $100 cover charge for maybe $20 worth of "finger food", there was no Al Le Carte service, rude staff and Claire herself had a personality problem, once we voiced our disappointment, and very poor customer relations, and needs her licence reviewed. With over 50 years of dining all around the world, we have never experienced such a deplorable service and customer relations. Please, NEVER recommend Claire's Kitchen Le Salon in Sydney, Australia. It was atrocious! Thanks!

My fiance and I were having a baby free date night and wanted to treat ourselves to a fancy dinner, and try something out of the ordinary. Claire's delivered. We both had 2 lovely cocktails, expensive at $20 but definitely worth it. He had the cheese souffle(which was pleasantly large considering it was an entree and very very tasty) and I had the mushroom mousse (very nice, interesting but flavorful, served cold). He ate the pork fillet (very nice, a little less pork than preferred, too much cabbage underneath and the beetroot puree kind of overpowered all other flavours); I had the lamb shoulder in filo pastry (I don't like lamb but it sounded really nice and was nice, a nice amount of meat and I loved the bed of cous cous, which was sparse but a really good balance). Dessert he had the choc mousse (very decadent) and I had the creme brulee (top was slightly burnt but still tasted amazing). We were served complimentary truffles as we paid our bill which were lovely. The staff were very friendly, and our waiter was lovely when we pointed out that we were overcharged by $2 for our pomme frites. He fixed our bill and walked away so we were able to decided on a tip with no pressure. Lovely low lighting, pleasantly decorated restaurant. Well worth the money.

I love going to Claire's, its everything you need. Its romantic, its great for occasions, great for small groups/large groups.
Marc is such a gentleman, all of the staff are a delight.
The food is of the highest standard and if you go when they have a show on you get dinner and a show for a bargain of a price.
You can take a step off oxford street and you're in France. I love the venue, I love the people and I love love love the FOOD!
I have three words for you...THE CHEESE SOUFFLE!

We just finished dinner at Claire’s Kitchen to celebrate a special occasion. As it turned out friends from overseas had arranged a voucher to prepay the meal requesting the voucher to be at our table as a surprise.
Not only was there no voucher there was absolutely no mention of any prepayment when we arrived and so we also paid.
It was only afterwards when we received a call from our friends overseas did we find out. Apparently the restaurant “forgot“ about it.
What was supposed to be a celebratory evening felt ruined. There was no apology forthcoming from the manager, just an excuse.
We love supporting local businesses but if this is what the service is like, then no thank you. Really felt ripped off.

Dear Patrick,
I apologise one more time for our mistake. We usually have a procedure where the guest presents a gift voucher for the discount. As this was special case and your friends was overseas I instructed the staff to apply the discount without a voucher, unfortunately I was off that night and the staff made a mistake. As soon as I became aware of the issue I assumed responsibility and I came to the bar and offered you the money back immediately, not without having to hear your complaints and loud words. Unfortunately mistakes are made, specially when procedures are not met, after all we are only humans. As I understand your rage I ask you to understand human nature.
Happy to apologise in person again and offer you another night on us to made up for the mistake

Went with my partner to see the Mark Trevorrow show , enjoyable evening.
Let me explain about the process $120 a ticket includes 3 courses of meal , meals were good and I enjoyed the lamb rack ,dessert was all a combination of cream, mousse etc and delicious.
So your ticket includes the show & 3 course meal with free water ,however any extras such as french fries etc are extra charged , same as coffee $5 , and of course a nice wine list and extra charge for other drinks which is reasonable.
So when you arrive for the show ticket it's upstairs you need to walk and they allocate you a table, now it's a small area upstairs so you will be sitting next to others so if you get crowd anxiety it may not suit you but relax and enjoy new company, the guys sitting next to me at my table didn't talk however and I didn't mind as I enjoyed the wine ,and meals and the great show .
The service was great fron the owner I liked him.
We will be back !!!!

It's always an authentic French experience at Claire's Kitchen. Marc greeted us with his usual charm at the door and we were escorted to a table by a fireplace. The menu is seasonal and we had the duck parfait and onion soup for entrees with the beef cheeks and blanquette of chicken for mains. The service was exemplary and we soaked in the relaxed atmousphere. You would think the world had returned to normal. We will be coming again.

This has not been our first time dining at Claire's Kitchen- we have dined there a number of times over the last few years but given the easing COVID-19 restrictions we wanted to treat ourself to a fancy meal before baby #2 arrives.
The food and service are still top class. Being pregnant, I ate the french onion soup, duck pie and creme caramel which were divine!
Cannot wait to go back there after the baby is born and have some steak tartare!

Don’t think i have ever written a review but have been here many a time.
The four of us selected different meals off the menu and no one had any complaints, from the French onion soup to the tartare.
On the mains we had the chateaubriand, poached snapper and beef cheeks. Yummy

Always a consistently good evening. We’ve been coming here for 10 years and always enjoyed the food, service and ambience.
The food is classic French, with the duck liver parfait a particular favourite. The service is friendly and attentive, and the room very pleasant.

We had a great time at Claire’s kitchen.
Start with the post quarantine drink: perfectly balanced.
I had the snails and they were delicious.
The duck pie, although it is not my favourite way to eat duck, was very tasty.
My partner loved the cheese soufflé.
And to top everything up, the show was amazing, funny and entertaining.
And the service is very friendly and attentive to small details.
We loved it!

$90pp for a sensational (French inspired) 3 course dinner & 2 room rocking sets from Mark Trevorrow.
Who knew Bob Downe was hiding hiding such an incredible voice in the pocket of his safari suit? 😏
The room was packed but floor staff gave excellent & seemless service.
Looking forward to a return visit

We have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions as we love love love it. We chose to visit for our last meal in Sydney before relocating to QLD. We were not disappointed. The food and service were amazing. A stand out for me is the French onion soup. Tasty, comforting and delicious. My husband and son had the pork knuckle and it was huge. You certainly could not complain you went home hungry after this meal. Although the menu says for 2 I think you could probably stretch this to 3 people with some sides. I had the lamb and it was cooked perfectly. The wine selection is good and the cocktails are well thought out and balanced. Especially enjoyed the duck fat washed aged whiskey and the beetroot negroni (sounds a little out there but works soooo well). The service was as usual top notch and the staff make you feel like you are a valued guest who has come for dinner. We will definitely have this s a must visit whenever we visit Sydney in the future.
Love, love, love this little piece of French heaven.
