Fabulous place; best sashimi plate in town, no contest. They are closing Oct 24 unfortunately because their lease expired and they could not renegotiate a reasonable extension. A pity ... .

My Japanese friend knows all the best Japanese places in Sydney and she wasn't wrong on this one either. Unpretentious is an understatement. Amongst the scruffy part of Oxford St you'd definitely never look twice at it. We ordered the Sashimi platter and sat there in total awe as it was brought out. A run of the mill sashimi platter... Formica tables and no drink license - you wouldn't bring anyone here to impress them with the surroundings. Sushi & sashimi excellent though, as are other staples such as gyoza. I've been less impressed with some of the off-piste menu items, so now tend to stick with what I know. You wouldn't travel miles to get here, but it's a... More

Me and my boyfriend go every two weeks more or less to satisfy our japanese need ^_^ Everything is delicious, sashimi is really fresh and taste so good! I love the little and comfortable ambience too.

This is a small restaurant run by an elderly Japanese couple. The food seems quite authentically Japanese. They do a $60 large mixed sashimi platter which is beautifully presented and often contains seafood you won't easily get in other restaurants. They also sometimes get deliveries of blue fin tuna. The blue fin "toro" is expensive but very fresh and tasty.... More

Unlike its surrounds, Oxford Street isn't exactly a culinary haven, but Yokozuna is the exception that proves the rule. Every dish I've eaten here (and I've been a few times now) has been wonderfully balanced in flavour. The sashimi is superbly fresh and reasonably priced. One little warning though: the service can be a little slow!

I popped into Yokozuna for a quick meal before a show and enjoyed a bento box which was fresh and tasty. As I was in a rush, service speed seemed a little too leisurely, but if you have time it's a good spot for a nice Japanese meal. BYO.

Really enjoyable meals. We went there 8 times in 10 days and tried many dishes. Everything is a standout. Some absolute must-try: the octopus balls, the Gyoza (Japanese dumplings), the eggplants in a pork mince sauce, the beef Hot Pot, the fish fillet, and some daily specials (not on the permanent menu unfortunately): Hot Pot of pork belly in a... Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
