Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice little local cafe with plenty of options on the menu. Ordered the seafood marinara and a matcha honey drink on a rainy day; the meal was a delight and the kickstart I needed on a crappy day weather wise. The seafood pasta contained generous portions of scallops, prawns, squid. The tomato sauce tasted like it was homemade. The matcha honey drink was sweet, but delicious and unique. Lovely decor btw and the cute teddy bears chillin in the corner. Thank you 🙏!

Today we have enjoyed a family Brunch at Gibbons Street Cafe.
The staff were friendly and helpful attentive as always and the new specials on the menu were awesome.
We had the Chilli Poached Eggs and let me say .... fabulous is all we can say.
Enough spice to tantalize and the yoghurt base was a beautiful balance of flavor texture and finish for the pallet.
2 of the family enjoyed a Tradie Roll that is a favorite.
Sam the owner is about to change the menu and we have recommended the eggs become a staple rather than a special.
Great venue
Great staff
Not expensive
Value for money
Good menu selection.
Oh .... and great coffee.
Enjoy

Great cafe for casual lunch or breakfast. Excellent service and value for money. Hot cakes are a specialty. Menu has something for everyone and you won’t go away hungry. The dishes have a middle eastern influence.

It would be better to park on Regent or Redfern St and walk from there as it is located on a fast moving traffic road, with very impatient drivers as you slow down to look for it.
We tried the squid ink spaghetti, squid linguini, shakshuka and knafeh French toast. All meals were beautifully plated and delicious. The coffee was welcoming and strong on a cold winter’s day.
The staff were really lovely. Highly recommend this place.

I came here on my birthday with friends for brunch and it was perfect!! I really wanted nice pancakes for my birthday and I definitely got them. We got the large central table which was perfect because everyone could talk to each other - I loved it..

I am travelling to Sydney for the first time and I love to try hot cakes in different cafes. I saw a lot of great reviews about bills hot cakes but end up I was quite disappointed as the texture was hard and it’s a bit tasteless. I’ve then searched for more reviews and found gibbons street cafe, the ricotta hotcake looks amazing and it’s the last stop of my cafe hopping today. Even I am very full but I still find the hotcake tastes great.
The texture is moist and soft but it’s crispy on the edge. The mascarpone is placed on top of the hot cakes, with assorted fruits and maple syrup it’s just heavenly!

There’s a huge variety of food here and staff are friendly. You can get light to moderately-filling breakfast(from bacon & egg rolls to a full breakfast); snacks, pasta (which are basically spicy) and salads. Their coffee here are the best, they never fail to brighten up my morning after a 8am lecture at the Uni. Also a good place to catchup with your friends.

Really nice cafe with Thai influenced dishes and good coffee. BUT - if the owner reads this - please teach your waitress not to touch the cutlery at the wrong end. I was shocked.

I love this place. So convenient and close, just around the Corner from my place. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t the only reason I love eating at Gibbons Street Cafe. The door is top notch along with the friendly customer service.
It’s nice to walk into the Cafe and be greeted with a smile by every staff, whether it be the Barista or the Chef.
Recently I had their Bowan Island Toasted muesli with yoghurt , mango and berries. And a cup of Flat White coffee.
Yum. The portion was just right keeping me satisfied and just right. The diced fruits were fresh and sweet. Muesli was incredible, certainly the highlight of the dish. Just a suggestion: perhaps having a small serving of Honey? I had to take some from my mate who was ODDLY enough having sourdough toast with avocado and a fried sunny side up egg with HONEY!?!?
I try not to judge but my friend has an unusual taste when it comes to sweet and savoury. Not Gibbons Cafe Gault of course, In fact it was nice to see they accommodated his request.
Once again, THANK YOU GUYS for a lovely Breakfast.

I’m back again for a delicious brunch at Gibbons St cafe.
I’ve never tried their Thai dishes as I’ve always gone for smoothie bowl and avocado toast. My oh my, it was such a treat!
Pad Cha Scallop comes with scallops and green peppercorn. It’s spicy and it’s fresh. Cooked with a twist, using pasta
Squid and chorizo linguine was another delicious Thai treat.
If you love pork you gotta try the Thai pork salad. Generous in portion and just so good.
I love fruit juice, a mix of celery and apple. T
And not to forget the mango smoothie. Laid with pretty flowers of the season.
Great service. Caring staff. Lovely atmosphere. And just a minute’s walk from Redfern station. Totes recommend it for lunch or brunch when you’re in Redfern.

Called in to say hi to Stephen from the former Loading Dock Cafe but to no avail. Ordered a Fish Burger and Chips. Delightful large piece of fish between the burger but the sauce came too close to Filet-O-Fish. However, the wedges sized chips were fantastic with a lovely crust.
Noted a large number of male staff hovering behind the counter but only 1 waitress minding the tables and taking food orders. Will return one day to sample the famed squid ink linguini and to catch up with Stephen.
Alwaysfood.

This place is proving to be a regular for me - good food, comfortable setting with great staff.
The food has never let me down - and the coffee is worth the visit alone.

Fantastic food only a short walk from Redfern Station. Bright open space, lovely staff, and a stella menu. Passion fruit & Mango Cloud bowl, and the hotcakes are my favourites.
